23.01.2022 Celebrating Xavi Bou (Born Barcelona, 1979) If birds left tracks in the sky, what would they look like? For years Barcelona-based photographer Xavi Bou has bee...n fascinated by this question, but of course birds in flight leave no traceat least none visible to the naked eye. Bou had a plan though and he has spent the past five years trying to capture the elusive contours drawn by birds in motion, or, as he says, to make visible the invisible. He began exploring photographic techniques that would allow him to show the beauty of birds in a way not seen before and ultimately he chose to work with a video camera, from which he extracts high-resolution photographs. After he films the birds in motion, Bou selects a section of the footage and layers the individual frames into one image. He finds the process similar to developing film: He cant tell in advance what the final result will be, but theres one magical second, he says, when the imagechimerical and surrealbegins to emerge. Before Bou began this project, which he calls Ornitografas, he earned degrees in geology and photography in Barcelona, then worked as a lighting technician in the fashion industry. This current work, he says, combines his passion and his profession. Its technical, challenging, artistic, and natural. Its the connection between photography and nature that I was looking for. Ornitografias is the balance between art and science, a project of naturalist discovery, and, at the same time, an exercise of visual poetry.

15.01.2022 We are deeply saddened by Christos passing. He was an extraordinary, history-making artist and a dear friend of John Kaldor and his family. Christo and Jeanne-...Claudes installation Wrapped Coast at Sydneys Little Bay in 1969 was groundbreaking, not only shifting Australias cultural understanding of what art could be, but beginning Kaldors mission to commission international artists to create new work in Australia. Christo and Jeanne-Claude have always made clear that their artworks in progress be continued after their deaths. Per Christos wishes, LArc de Triomphe, Wrapped in Paris, France, is still on track for September 18 October 3, 2021.

13.01.2022 SOS SAVE OUR SCENE An open letter from Victorian music venues to the State Government. Victorias famous music scene is on the brink of collapse and theres... no relief in sight. We are calling on the Victorian Government to step in and save our proud music culture by preserving the venues where artists play. Live music means mass gatherings, so it will be many months before our states music venues can safely reopen our doors at viable capacities. In the meantime, our venues are being crippled by mounting debt including rent, mortgage payments, bills and insurance. Without Government intervention, many of the venues you love will be forced to close their doors permanently. From Victorias small clubs to our iconic band rooms, the places where you go to listen, dance, share and celebrate music will start to disappear. Stages that nurture emerging artists to those that house Australias and worlds biggest touring acts will go, and who knows what will replace them. Why does it matter? Music is who we are. It is a cornerstone of Victorias identity as the creative state, it is something that we are known for around the world, and it is a huge economic driver. Melbourne has more live music venues per capita than any other city in the world. The 700 music venues across Victoria host approximately 100,000 gigs a year, with an estimated economic impact of $1.42 billion generated from live music, clubs and festivals. Melbournes live music venues have an audience of 112,000 every Saturday night more than an AFL grand final. The industry generates tens of thousands of jobs, from musicians and DJs to bookers, promoters, publicists, venue operators, hospitality and bar staff, technicians, security staff and a vast network of ancillary suppliers and contractors. Music venues are the critical infrastructure of this industry. If our venues disappear, the live music economy will disappear, and our cultural heritage will go with it. Australian artists will have fewer places to perform, to grow, to find fans. At exactly the time when more local stages are needed - because international borders are closed - we will lose them. If we lose the venues, we will lose the artists too. Our music venues cannot survive without Victorian Government intervention. So please, protect our music venues. Support our artists. Save our scene. Head to saveourscene.com.au for a full list of supporters, to sign the petition and spread the word now.

04.01.2022 At 8am this morning, more than 2000 pairs of childrens shoes were placed in Londons Trafalgar Square with people holding a banner saying Covid today > Climat...e tomorrow > Act Now. Extinction Rebellion are calling on the government to act on the climate crisis during the coronavirus recovery so children and young people arent left to suffer a deeper crisis. Shoes were donated by local neighbours, parents and teachers across London who are scared for their childrens future, with Extinction Rebellion pledging to give them to Shoe Aid following the action. The installation comes as UK lockdown begins to ease and the government begins bailing out carbon intensive industries, writing off chances of keeping within Paris Climate Agreement promises, putting our children and youth in danger. The Government has an opportunity to act on a coronavirus recovery plan that protects our children and young people. : Anthony Jarman, William Templeton, Nathaniel Waters Extinction Rebellion London Extinction Rebellion UK #NoGoingBack #WindsOfChange #ExtinctionRebellion
