24.01.2022 Another transmission out, this time out of a 100 series Landcruiser. A leaking rear main seal can get to be messy and be a problem when parking on driveways which can cause long term staining and in some cases deterioration to concretes and pavement. 22.01.2022 Split and torn boots, like the ones pictured, don't look like a great deal but when the boot has been split, the joint is now compromised and susceptible to wear. This can cause a knocking or a clicking sound from your steering or suspension. Once the wear has started the joint is now a throw away part. Boots like these ones can be replaced at a fraction of the cost to a new joint. In severe conditions or circumstances the joint can separate and can cause loss of control of the vehicle. Thought i would post this so people are mindful of what preventative maintenance maintenance is all about and the corrective actions that needs to be taken, before it's too late.

19.01.2022 Fatigued or damaged engine and/or body mounts can be misdiagnosed as a drive line component failure or potential failure of a drive line component. These mounts mustn't be overlooked when trying to diagnose that unnerving viabration or knocking sensation. These things CAN and DO happen. Here are some examples.

16.01.2022 Just another reminder to keep in tune with your vehicle. If something doesn't sound right or you haven't heard that particular engine noise, vibration or rattle before, then something may not be right and needs to be looked at. Unfortunately for this customer it was the cost of an engine instead of just a timing chain and oil change. 14.01.2022 I've recently replaced a subaru impreza clutch kit in a block of units, car park. This clutch was totalled. The working conditions weren't great however they could have been a lot worse. Thanks to the improvisation of blocks of wood, jacks, axle stands and a bit of ingenuity we managed to get this subaru up high enough and safe enough to carry out the task at hand. 14.01.2022 Another job i went to today, replacing a gearbox on a slasher, reshaping the edge on the blades and giving the PTO drive shaft a service, replacing the broken grease nipples etc.

14.01.2022 Another clutch job under way. This one's on a TD4.2, as you can see the flywheel shows signs of heat stress, which is the result of a slipping clutch. You can machine these flywheels and they come back with the desired outcome of looking like brand new again. Not all clutch failures are preventable but bad or poor driving habits can be a contributing factor to clutch failure. Slipping a clutch whilst taking off from those sets of lights or desperately waiting on an incline,... waiting for that opportune moment to get into the busy street is part of poor driving habits. Sometimes there's no real way around it, that you need to "slip the clutch" but minimizing these times and being aware that this is happening can help prolong clutch and component life. 13.01.2022 Please respect the importance of regular maintenance, and service inspections. I recently was called to look at a suspension noise (clunking) from the front of a vehicle only to find the a/c belt almost off the pulleys. I took it upon myself to then check the pulleys and re fit the belt. The a/c and fan belts are just one simple basic check to make sure that everything is ok and not prone to failure. Making sure you carry out routine servicing and maintenance on your vehicle can prevent early UNEXPECTED failure of components. 11.01.2022 Another eventful few days working on this Prado. Brake caliper re kit. Lower control arm bush replacement. Transmissiin oil flush, filter change and oil replacement. Water pump replacement. Pulley bearing replacement. Weld up exhaust manifold and re seal exhaust flanges. Enjoyed working on this well maintained beast. 11.01.2022 A reminder to all that own vehicles, if you start to hear noises coming from within your vehicle it is a sure sign that something isn't right. Please be mindful of this. This customer was very lucky, as soon as i tapped on the axle to remove it from the diff housing, it came out (as you see in the pictures) in pieces. For this customer it was an expensive repair in the end as we had to source a new axle, bearings and spend time tidying up the diff housing to save it. Next time your vehicle is making some different noises than what your used to hearing maybe it's time to get that looked at. 09.01.2022 These pictures are of some petrol (believe it or not) which has come out of a vehicles fuel tank. Modern petrol motor vehicle's have very fine tolerances (not just within fuel systems mind you). This vehicle would not keep running due to no fuel pressure to the fuel rail. Luckily good fuel filters stopped the contaminated fuel from getting caught in the injectors. Although the customer saved money there, we did have to purchase and install a new fuel pump and fuel filters. ...A vehicle's fuel condition is often overlooked when trying to diagnose a fuel related fault. Please be mindful of where you purchase your fuel and how it's being introduced into the vehicle, as over time dirt and debri (although small amounts at the time) can lead to catastrophy further on in the vehicles life. 07.01.2022 Coming into hot summer months can cause many uncomfortable situations. Luckily for this customer he got to this cracked radiator just in time. 06.01.2022 Well what a weekend so far. Diff out of the work horse (hilux) and rebuilt, then re installed with the much needed help from an old friend. Here's some snaps of the diff coming out, out and pulled apart. Road tested the 4 wheeled toolbox and was glad to hear no more grumbles or groans from the front diff.
