24.01.2022 October News! I've got to get a few things off my chest. I've given my Mum a wonderful holiday in Atlanta and she's living the dream thanks to me! But I just feel she's ungrateful. The only thing I get her to do is get me out of bed in the morning , organise my Medications, let the nurse in, make my breakfast , help dress me, chauffeur me to the hospital to train at Beyond Therapy whilst waiting in the waiting room (AKA luxury) for 3-4 hours, take me home again, feed me, gi...ve me more tablets and get me into bed and I only ever call on her once or twice during the night to help move me or to turn a fan on or off but AT NO STAGE has she even thanked me or said she would repay me for this holiday! I can't believe it. She's on thin ice. If anyone wants to apply for the position please message me ONLY females need apply and include head shot. Other than that as usual training is hard and I continue to get great results although sometimes I don't notice them as I'm living the injury. It's not till I sit back and remember the state I was in 2 and 1/2 months ago when I left Australia that I can appreciate that I have come a long way but it's still only the start of my journey. I've popped back to Australia as my Dad's fighting his own health battle and its been great catching up with him. But every cloud has a silver lining and I've been able to spend quality time with Twiggie as as my sister Celeste, flew down to Melbourne and brought her up to the Gold Coast to be with me. The guys from the Shepherd Centre have been amazing and have held my spot for me to come back and continue my rehabilitation when I return to Atlanta. As I previously mentioned some great mates are putting on a Fundraiser for me this weekend in the Mornington Peninsula. How fortunate am I ? I'm blown away once again by the auction items that have been donated and all the hard work that's been put into organising it. It's going to be a ripper evening and I'm spewing I'll miss it but I'm teaching a dance class on the Gold Coast! Twiggie continues to blow me away as she just said to me "Daddy when you get better we can throw away your wheelchair, your crutches, your leg boots, your knee brace and we can get a new house in Melbourne. Sounds like a grand plan to me. Remember to keep smiling. Chancelot http://www.trybooking.com/Booking/BookingEventSummary.aspx

24.01.2022 Hello peoples I know, I know geeeeee really another update, but I feel I owe it to everyone that got behind me to give you an idea of how I’m traveling and where I’m at....Continue reading

24.01.2022 Hope you are all happy and healthy and doing what you love. I haven't been updating because I didn't want to bore people with my gym workouts, but after 3 million requests (actually just 3) here I go! It’s been a year since the injury and all is going well. I got my licence (normal licence no modifications, that’s right shut up!). The RTA are a bunch of silly sausages and have let me back on the road. I was quite nervous as it was Sydney Mardi Gras and and I did my test driv...ing a float, even Kylie Minogue was impressed. But seriously I was extremely nervous as this is a huge step for my independence. I am consistently getting gains and happy with the recovery to date. I am having the most trouble with my calves (reminds me of an old joke about the farmyard girl who kept getting into trouble because she couldn’t keep her calves together.). My calves have shrunk from being flat on my back in bed for so long aka 'drop foot' and my core is the hardest part to get back. There are plenty of other things not quite there yet but these are the main little thorns in my side, but no problem we will get there in the end. I still aim to be off crutches by 2045 nahhhh just pulling ya nipples 2044 nahhhhh end off the year. This is the master plan. I think of everyone who got behind me often. I am so lucky in so many ways! Lucky to have such amazing friends and family. Lucky to have worked with the most awesomest, occupational therapist, physio's and exercise specialists from day dot all the way through to now and let’s not forget the legendary nurses and doctors. I have learnt so much from each and everyone of you and had A LOT of laughs along the way. Being home with Twiggie is my greatest gift, as you may all know this was my hardest challenge along my journey missing my girl! I am blown away with how resilient kids are. Its like nothing has happened and I am same old daddy. It’s funny because in the early days some people when visiting me for the first time since the injury would say to me "Oh you seem just like the old Chance" as if they expected me to have a broken personality as a result of the broken neck. This is kind of understandable I guess as I hadn't had any experience with anyone who was a quadriplegic before my accident so wouldn’t have known what to expect either. Mum is off to Bali and I am now home solo, so party at my house? Remember to stop and smell the roses!

23.01.2022 Awesome article of Chance in the Daily Telegraph a couple of weeks ago !!! Inspirational, & how cute is Twiggie !

21.01.2022 Happy Tuesday 5th November from Atlanta. A couple of weeks ago some great friends of mine took it upon themselves to throw together a fundraiser to help with my ongoing rehabilitation. What an amazing job they did. By all accounts it was a fantastic success. I would like to thank everyone who attended and everyone who donated and the guys who put it all together. I am so lucky to know many of these people but also those who don't even know me who came or were involved on t...he day or contributed in some way. Thanks Sam and Zoe, Simon and Tilly, Jack and Nicole, Marcus and Bec, James, Brad Taylor, Linda McNaughton, all the sponsors, the MC Hamish McLachlan, DJ Craig Delmo and Stuart from the Deck Bar in Frankston for your support on the day. What it takes to throw something like this together is no simple task and like all the guys who threw the Sydney fundraiser together, they all have jobs, families and big hearts! The proceeds will give me the opportunity to continue my rehabilitation at Beyond Therapy, Shepherd Centre, Atlanta Georgia, where I am getting the best spinal cord injury treatment available on the planet. I've got big goals set but at the least my stint with them will get me closer to regaining my independence. I will be heading home in 6 ish weeks for xmas with Twiggie and family, then if all goes to plan I will be heading back to Atlanta around Feb. Now on a sadder note Natasha and I lost our Dad on Friday. It was extremely hard not being there these past 3 weeks and to miss his funeral tomorrow but we had a great catch up a few weeks ago with many laughs as usual. He was a great support through this whole journey. Dad told everyone he just wanted to see me walk off the plane in December but I managed to walk into the hospital on crutches (bloody slow but walked, didn't think the corridors were going to be that long. Nearly had to get admitted myself) to visit him which made him quite emotional. Was a great moment we shared and I was just so happy to make it back in time. He will dearly be missed by all! It made me laugh that 4 days after our reunion in the hospital when i had a minor procedure that went wrong and I ended up in the same hospital, only to get a call from dad saying I was not allowed to go near his nurses and that I should go get my own hospital! RIP Dad (Andy Burns)! Here's to great friends and family who make all the difference. Chance

20.01.2022 Some amazing letters from students in year 5 and 6 at Newcastle Grammar who watched Chance on Compass ! Dear Chance I was watching the Compass programme in class for You Can Do It. It was amazing how you could get out of being a person who could not walk again. It must have been frustrating for you. You were really resilient and were persistent because you had to start off moving fingers to being able to walk again. I think that is amazing....Continue reading

14.01.2022 Hi all, I would like to share some information about an awesome family I have met recently. Unfortunately their son, Will Murray from Victoria, broke his neck in January. Sadly he is only 14. They are having a community day today from 2-8pm at the Sandringham athletics track Glamis ave, Hampton , so if you are around or if you feel like getting behind him in some way or just making a small donation- it will help give him the best shot at recovery and a better quality of life.... Here is some media about Will and his family. See the link below for more info. http://www.wheretheresawill.com.au We wish them all the best. Thanks Chance.

13.01.2022 Good day all, Been a while between updates, so here goes. I have noticed a few complications since the injury and the doctors are kinda baffled by them, like my love for Justin Bieber’s song Love Yourself. They’re still not sure if it’s curable, and it’s possible I could permanently remain a borderline Belieber. this is a big concern!...Continue reading
