17.01.2022 Recently Chandler hosted a Business & Sports Luncheon which highlighted the links between high performing professional sporting teams and effective team performance in business. Last night we witnessed the deciding game of the 2017 Origin series between NSW and QLD; coming into the game QLD were labelled underdogs due to their injuries to key players and having many debutantes with limited experience versus a well credentialed, star-studded NSW side that reflected a strong u...nit. In the actual contest QLD provided a near perfect performance to beat the odds, winning the game and the series. As an avid NSW supporter, I was obviously disappointed with the result however the performance highlighted a few relevant points that were flagged at the Business Sports Luncheon last week. Culture - the strength of a team will out-perform individual brilliance. Discipline - doing the basics perfectly, selflessly and consistently opens the door to success; it also provides a platform from which to grow.

09.01.2022 A big thank you to our special guests, Benny Elias, Richard Harry, Luke Ricketson, Alex McKinnon and Bradley Clyde for an entertaining panel discussion last Friday in Sydney. Many topics were covered including the links between sport and business, overcoming challenges, the state of Australian Rugby Union and lastly the current State of Origin series. The setting was relaxed and the conversation was candid and informative.

09.01.2022 It was my absolute pleasure to be part of Chandler’s second business success session held at West End Brisbane Friday the 27th October. The format, not dissimilar to the first event, explored experiences and learnings from some of our nations most accomplished professional athletes. The event confirmed to me that there are many similarities between building and maintaining top performing teams in both sport and business. In this series we had Steve Walters https://en.wikip...edia.org/wiki/Steve_Walters , Glen Lazarus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Lazarus and Bradley Clyde https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradley_Clyde sharing their experiences. This not only entertained the audience, it also provided insight into what makes a championship winning team, covering topics such as Culture/Coaching/Management. Interestingly we not only covered what characteristics/activities are required to achieve success we also explored some of the potential pitfalls of success. How do you keep building on success? A few key takeout’s for me were: 1. It is often the case that finger pointing and blame starts to take shape after a patch of poor results. If not addressed this can destabilise the team further and generate more of the same poor results. Effective remedial actions can be: a. Refocus on disciplines, getting the basics right, doing the right activities. b. Ensure management team and senior team members (influential team members) all share the same game plan and instil belief in the game plan to those less experienced. It is very difficult for any team to win/succeed if they don’t believe they can. 2. Leadership is often best received when you simply lead by example. 3. A healthy team culture inspires people to not only perform for themselves they perform for each other, not wanting to let their team down. 4. Respect, pride, passion and purpose are key ingredients in the success of QLD’s State of Origin performance. Establishing a legacy adds meaning beyond an individual’s pursuits. A big thankyou to the Panel, all those that attended and the fantastic Chandler team involved in organising such a great event. Given the overwhelming positive feedback from the two last events we will be looking to run six events per year. See more
