Fairtrade shows us that we can invest something back into our community to help our own people where it is needed" - Eno Nosare, HOAC member, Papua New Guinea. In the Okapa region of Papua New Guinea, an origin we source our beans from, coffee farming is relied on heavily by families. But did you know that farmers in this region experience so many challenges farming and trading coffe...e; they contend with a rugged mountain terrain and can travel up to 10 hours to Goruka, the nearest market town. The Highland Organic Agriculture Cooperative use funds from the Fairtrade Premium and work very closely with the local government to invest into improving the accessibility of roads in this area. Ongoing projects like this will help these rural communities to have better access to their nearest town.
