23.01.2022 On THURSDAY the Year 5/6 class went rock climbing and scaled several walls, got stuck in tunnels (well the adults) and challenged themselves with some difficult climbs. They then headed to the beach for a very fresh Tasmanian swim. - On FRIDAY they did the Alum cliffs walk. Mrs Boonstra set the challenge for counting the steps at the end. It was a long eight kilometer walk but students were rewarded with chips on the beach and frozen coke. #LovetoLearn #LerantoLove
23.01.2022 We were blessed with some glorious spring days recently, so Prep and Year 3/4 had the opportunity to sit outside and sketch the beautiful blossoms and wattle in Art. They also worked on still life drawings with oil pastels and soft pastels. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
21.01.2022 Bike week is back! No doubt you have noticed your child a bit more tired than normal, maybe even wheelie tired. That's because each class is learning how to ride safely on the road and improving their overall riding skills. Classes have been riding around our local surrounds and throughout recess and lunch, where students have been testing jumps and having fun on bikes. - In addition to all of this, Chris MacGregor from Bike Education has been taking each class through daily practical sessions on road safety. Students are given a series of challenges to complete which increases both their skills and awareness while on a bike. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
20.01.2022 After writing many persuasive pieces of text, the Year 3/4 class persuaded us to build a GaGa Ball pit. - Ask your child what that is! and watch this space next term to find out more. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
19.01.2022 It was an amazing day on SATURDAY for our Drive Through Oliebollen event. We sold out of Oliebollen a little more quickly than we expected, and we're sorry if you missed out. - Thank you to all our Staff and volunteer Parents and Carers for working so hard on the weekend. And Thank you to our wonderful community for coming out to support us so well! #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
19.01.2022 Yesterday we said farewell to our Year 6 students. Many of these students have been at Channel since Kinder. It was a day of celebrating the educational, spiritual and social journey that all of our leavers have been on throughout their primary years. - We also said farewell to ten families who had their youngest child leave Channel. We want to say one last thank you to all of our Year 6 students. They have made an impact on the Channel community, have grown in their faith and built strong friendships. As Mr Headley shared in his devotion, they know that Jesus is their most important teacher and they are His children. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
19.01.2022 As part of NAIDOC Week, in our special Remembrance Day assembly this morning, we acknowledged the contributions of the Melukerdee people, who lived on the land our school is built on for thousands of years. We then learned about why it is so important to remember the sacrifices of those who have fought and participated in keeping our country safe: to show respect, to learn from the past, to keep us from repeating the mistakes of the past, and to show gratitude to them and to God. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
18.01.2022 We had a great turnout at the Welcome BBQ last night. It was wonderful to see so many families both new and existing connecting and getting to know one another. - A BIG thank you to our School Council for doing such a great job organising this event, and to the staff for getting us excited about all the learning opportunities the students will enjoy this year. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove

18.01.2022 TODAY was the final Assembly for the Term. Parents and Carers were unable to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions on the number of people permitted in our Library. - Make sure to turn the SOUND ON to hear the Choir! 18.01.2022 This morning we celebrated the end of Term 3 with footy fun day. Students and staff came in their team colours, regardless of what sport they follow. The school team leaders cooked bacon and eggs for the whole school to enjoy for breakfast. We pray that everyone has a well earned holiday break! #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
18.01.2022 The Year 5/6 class are currently on their hybrid camp, which is a series of day trips. On Monday, Fish Care Tasmania came and taught us how to fish. We didn't catch anything, but learnt how to tie knots, handle fish and cast. We also had some potters from Glazed and Confused join us to lead a workshop in how to work with clay. It was a lot of fun as we made sculptures as part of our Christmas craft. - Tuesday was an active day that saw us go to gymnastics to work on some skil...ls and play some games. We also went to Zone 3, where our class battled it out to be the champion, we also watched a fascinating play at the Female Factory that told a story of female convicts as they first arrived in Tasmania. - Today we went kayaking! Starting at Huonville, we paddled down to Franklin. About halfway through, a massive water fight broke out, which lasted for a long time, but we had a whale of a time. Thanks to the tour guides at Roaring 40s who were fantastic. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove See more
17.01.2022 Welcome back Channel Little Learners!
17.01.2022 On Tuesday the Year 5/6 class made the trip to Port Arthur Historic Site. It was a long drive, but worth it! Touted as ‘The best open air classroom you could wish for’, it did not disappoint! We had a spectacular day to explore the many historic buildings, ruins, gardens and to top it off, a cruise around the harbour. We left Port Arthur with the question on our minds, was Port Arthur a place of pure punishment, a place of reform or maybe both? #LovetoLearn #LerantoLove
16.01.2022 Last night the Year 6 students celebrated their Leavers dinner at Jack Loves Red in Blackmans Bay. They wrote speeches to reminisce about their time at Channel and enjoyed each others company. Meanwhile, Mrs Louw had a celebration dinner with the Year 6 parents at The Beach Restaurant. Over 100 years of combined partnership with Channel was celebrated over dinner. It was an end of an era for many, some after 25 years and others after two years, but all of them thankful for their time at Channel. We thank you for all your contributions made and especially your prayerful support of the school. Both Year 6 students and their families go with our blessings to do great things for His glory. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
16.01.2022 In English, Year 1/2 have been learning about the features of a narrative. They have enjoyed writing and illustrating their own narratives. Their 5/6 buddies had the pleasure of being read to for a change. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
15.01.2022 The Prep and Year 1/2 classes enjoyed a special treat with a visit from local Author and Illustrator Fiona Levings. She shared her lovely new picture book 'Now and Then' with the classes. The story shows the lives of two real life boys who grow up in the same house but with some time between them. - She helped the children to think about and discuss the changes as well as similarities that they could see in her clever illustrations. Part way through the story, the kids we...re so excited to see a very familiar scene on the page and realised that the whole story was from our very own Margate! It is pretty special to have a story about a place that we know well and the Prep kids loved seeing some favourite places as well as being able to see what they looked like 80 years ago. Our visit with Fiona was a lovely summary of our history unit this term as it really brought to life some of the changes that we had tried to imagine in our local area. See more
12.01.2022 Christmas is a very special time of year. Year 1-2 students have been continuing to reflect on how we can ‘Develop a heart for others’ in our community. We want to share God’s greatest gift to the world, Jesus, a gift that we receive and are called to share with others. Students completed artwork around the real meaning of Christmas and delivered it to Christian Homes Tasmania Inc Snug Village yesterday for the residents to enjoy. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
11.01.2022 Prep and Year 1/2s are enjoying painting in the new Art room. They listen to classical music then let their imaginations interpret the sounds into visual images. They found the process quite calming and inspiring. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
11.01.2022 What a wonderful Winter Challenge we have had. We are so thankful and proud of the kindness and thoughtfulness of all our families. Together we donated 389 pieces of food and healthcare items to support our local community members who are doing it tough. What a delight it was to fill AUSTRALIA with our love. - Mr Miller from The Salvation Army Kingborough-Huon came to accept our donation and was thrilled to see such an outpouring of care and love. He chatted with our school ...leaders who have been inspiring the students each week to bring each food for each ‘state’. We thanked him for the time and love he and his team put into delivering the hampers with care and smiles designed to bring hope. Thank you again to the Channel School Community. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove See more

06.01.2022 On Tuesday, Anthony ‘Stuey’ Stewart, current coach of the Hobart Chargers and former NBL player, came to school to run a basketball clinic for our 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 classes. - Students had a blast going through some basics of basketball such as dribbling and shooting, and gaining an interest in the fastest growing sport in Australia. Stuey brought with him the added bonus of owning Zone 3 and gave out free vouchers to those who won the now infamous game of Stuey says. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
06.01.2022 Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. On Thursday Preps Yr 2 celebrated with a special day outdoors with their class and teachers. - Mrs Ninness and the Preps did all their learning outside! They did their language and math's rotations & some science where they tried to think about how to make plasticine float. They read stories, listened to the class Superstar, played in the nature play area ...& made houses with tents. Needless to say they loved it so much! - Mrs Wyllie and the Year 1-2 classes also spent lots of time outside. First up they had devotion down at the amphitheater, focusing on Psalm 19 vs 1; ‘The heavens declare the glory of God’. There was some lovely discussion about the beautiful creation around Channel, and how it glorifies God. The students also took part in a Math's nature hunt, tallying and graphing their data. They finished the day off with a pleasant walk and play at Dru Point. How blessed we are to teach and learn in such a wonderful place! Please follow the link to find out more. https://outdoorclassroomday.com.au/ #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove

05.01.2022 The Kinders celebrated their last day of school today with an outing at the West Hobart Train Park (Caldew Park). Such fun was had on the giant slides, traipsing over the train and exploring the gardens. What a wonderful way to end the year, even Mrs Day couldn't resist trying out the slides. - Today students from Prep-Year 6 enjoyed the Big Splash day at the Glenorchy Pool. Students enjoyed swimming and playing in the pool and when the water slide opened, a flood of students eagerly awaited the ride. Thanks to all of our students for their hard work throughout 2020. The Big Splash was thoroughly deserved. #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
02.01.2022 During our Chemical Science unit on Mixtures, Year 2 students have been exploring the properties of solids, liquids and gases. Students created their own larva lamps using water, food colouring, cooking oil. They made predictions about what would happen when they added salt, baking powder or magnesium salts to their solutions. These photos show the results of the chemical reactions that occurred. There was much excitement from everyone when the bubbles began! #LovetoLearn #LearntoLove
