23.01.2022 Unveiling ceremony for history project in Gordon Members of the Channel community, and those who have a connection to Gordon, are invited to attend an unveiling ceremony at Three Hut Point (adjacent to the Gordon jetty) on Saturday, 6 February, at 2pm. The ceremony will be held to unveil a series of interpretative signs, which tell the history of Gordon. The project includes information about the area’s original inhabitants, the muwinina people, its first colonial families, ...including the Behrens family, and the impact the 1967 bushfires had on Gordon’s key civic buildings. The project is a collaboration between the South Channel Ratepayers and Residents Association and Kingborough Council, with contributions from the South East Tasmanian Aboriginal Corporation, weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation, and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. 09.01.2022 BORROW! ENJOY! DONATE! The Middleton Library Box is now open for business. The box is the representation of a picker's hut paying tribute to the early settlers who relied so much on seasonal industries such as the small fruits, apples and scallop for a living. A huge thank you to West Winds Shed and Kim Walker for constructing the box also our appreciation to Val Brown and Arthur Banks for donating materials. Also our acknowledgement of the work of the Council's outdoor crew for installing the box.



08.01.2022 Sharing Gordon’s history New interpretation panels are being developed to tell the story of Gordon. In a collaboration between the South Channel Ratepayers and Residents Association (SCRRA), Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre and Kingborough Council, the panels will tell the story of the area’s Traditional Owners, the township’s early days, and the devastating impact of the 1967 bushfires.... Members of the Channel community, and those who have a connection to Gordon, are invited to view the proposed signage panels and feedback is invited. The feedback will be taken into consideration before the panels are made and installed at the campground and jetty. The proposed panels will be on display at the Middleton Community Centre from 1 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, 28 November. Please follow all safety measures for this COVID Safe event. 03.01.2022 The History Room in the Middleton Community Hall will open on Saturday 28 November between 1pm to 5pm. Displays includes a wide range of family folders, articles about the 1967 Bushfires as well as items depicting the life of the early settlers.... At the same time the proposed panels telling the story of Gordon will be on displayed. Entrance will be via annex at the rear of the hall. COVID safety measures will apply.
