14.01.2022 Winter had arrived - snuggled up and enjoy

13.01.2022 The rich history of the property adds a further level of interest to Chapel House and its amazing gardens. The buildings on the property have an intriguing history. The oldest building is the Cobb and Co Inn built of stone around 1832.... It is known as the Queen Victoria Inn but as Queen Victoria was not crowned until 1837, it probably had a previous name. The first publican of the Inn, Henry Rotton, later became a parliamentarian for the Bathurst region. Behind that building is the quaint cottage we now call The Owl Pen, which we believe was the original kitchen for the Inn. Attached to the cottage is the building we call the studio. It started its life as an open air hand ball court for the Franciscans who occupied the site from approximately 1919 to 1925. A second storey was added in the 1970s and was used as an art studio for 10 years by John Olsen , probably Australias best known contemporary artist. The Franciscans also built our Georgian-style home in 1920, attaching it to the Inn. By some strange twist of fate, we found out that the property was originally part of a land grant to the Reverend Henry Fulton, who was sent to Australia as a convict on the SS Minerva in 1803 for seditious practices. He returned to England to support Governor Bligh for his role in the Rum Rebellion and was later to be pardoned for services rendered to the Hawkesbury parish. Jo Maxwell is a direct descendant of the Reverend Fulton, so in some respects, she came home, when she and Michael purchased the property in 1998. Since that time, we filled the garden beds with thousands of bulbs, hundreds of roses, built arbours, created meandering streams and more. After such an investment of time and energy, we are now excited by the prospect of sharing our slice of heaven with the public, through our relaxing self-contained cottage- the Owl Pen, as a romantic wedding venue and through our tours of the garden by appointment. Rest and relax in this little piece of paradise.

10.01.2022 Just love Autumn

08.01.2022 From spring when thousands of daffodils provide a sea of yellow, to summer with many irises and then the first flush of roses, onto autumn when the tones change to glorious reds and golds, and then into winter, when the real bones of the garden are exposed.

08.01.2022 There are nine glorious acres of manicured lawns and spectacular cold climate garden, which delights year round. After such an investment of time and energy we are now excited by the prospect of sharing our slice of heaven with the public.

03.01.2022 Looking good for the Daffodil Festival 2016 !
