20.01.2022 GOOD TO KNOW // Where TFN is Provided Be aware that where you’re Tax File Number (TFN) has been provided to a bank, employer, share broker, the ATO will be informed of your income. On your ATO prefill report we have been able to access your salary and wages, interest income, dividend income and contractor’s income for some time. Recently, we have seen EFTPOS income come through on this report suggesting that the banks are now reporting this incom...e to the ATO. Under Federal legislation all Australian Banks are required to report cash transactions of $10,000 or more to the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) where the ATO can access these reports. Always on hand if you have questions, you can reach out to the team at @chapellandassociates via our contacts in the bio. #ChapellandAssociates See more

17.01.2022 Have you forecast your business for the next 12 months, not just the next 3 months!?? We are all very concerned about the second economic wave that will happen from 25 September when Cash boost and JobKeeper are finished or reduced. In addition to this, deferred ATO payments will restart and in many cases Bank loan deferrals restart. We are concerned that over the 6 months from September, businesses will feel additional slowing of the economy which has been somewhat hidden by the government boosts. Don’t wait for it to happen - forecast the future and then call and let @chapellandassociates plan your approach | #chapellandassociates

16.01.2022 INSTANT ASSET WRITE-OFF - This continues at the new $150,000 limit through to 31 December 2020. Please note that from 1 January 2021 the limit will reduce to $1,000 and will only be for businesses with a turnover less than $10 Million. If your asset was over $150,000 there is some accelerated depreciation we can claim, so please discuss this with us at tax time | #chapellandassociates

14.01.2022 Besides the obvious incentives and deferrals finishing or being reduced from 25 September there are other subtle things that expire at the end of next month, including insolvent trading and Court orders on debt collection which have all been stalled, and come back to life, so please if you have concerns let’s get ahead of the changes. Don’t wait for it to happen - forecast the future and then call and let @chapellandassociates plan your approach | #chapellandassociates

13.01.2022 Estate planning is not something we like to think about but without a plan in place, our business and personal affairs may not be dealt with as we wish after we pass away. Estate planning is more than just a will. 12.01.2022 Many of our clients use self-managed superannuation funds (SMSF) to hold direct property, shares and other investments. The main attraction, we believe is to retain control of your superannuation fund investments, and to have a choice as to what the superannuation fund invests in. Sometimes these are assets that would otherwise be unavailable in a retail or industry superannuation fund (such as direct property). get in touch for assistance navigating compliance requirements and ensuring that the fund is run in compliance with all regulatory authorities // #chapellandassociates

08.01.2022 Now that we know that JobKeeper 2.0 has been updated to JobKeeper 2.1, what does this mean for business? 28 SEPTEMBER 2020 / FN 14 ONWARD: (New JobKeeper) The government has announced that JobKeeper assistance will continue past 27 September, but that employers must reassess their eligibility based upon the actual GST turnover of the July-September 20 quarter. ... This is a quarterly assessment, not a monthly one, and it must support a 30% decline in GST Turnover in comparison to the September 2019 Quarter - Base test. If not, then alternate tests can still be applied. If you pass the base test or an alternate test for the September 2020 quarter, then we will re-apply in October for JobKeeper support from 28 September. Please contact us to re-assess your eligibility based upon YTD actual results and your forecast, so that you know what the likely outcome is. NEW RATES - From 29 September 2020 the JobKeeper rate of $1,500 per fortnight is reduced to $1,200 per fortnight and then from 4 January 2021 further reduced to $1,000 per fortnight. In addition, part time or casual staff who work less than 20 hours per week will have a new JobKeeper amount of $750 per fortnight from 29 September 2020 and this reduces to $650 per fortnight from 4 January 2021. This should reduce the need for JobKeeper top-up payments. So lots of extra categories to declare in the Single Touch Payroll (STP). 03.01.2022 Did you give your rental property some love this Valentine’s Day? DID YOU KNOW // Repair vs Replacement (Rental Properties) Rental Property repairs must relate directly to wear and tear or other damage as a direct result of renting out your property. Repairs generally involve a repair or renewal of a worn part. Maintenance generally involves the upkeep of the property in tenantable condition. ... However, expenses which are capital in nature are not immediately deducible, and will be depreciated over time (e.g. new hot water system). Replacement assets or improvements are capital, as are all initial repairs prior to commencement of tenancy.
