24.01.2022 ChaplainWatch Purple and White Ball 2020
24.01.2022 At ChaplainWatch we have often diffused tension and violence by 'coming in from the side' seeking the wellbeing of all in every situation we encounter. A chaplain's role is to be a neutral voice of hope and reason within the community they are called to, being an advocate for peace, a representative of hope and an ally of justice. "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your... God?" - Micah 6:8 (image: Fox 5 new York, 'NYPD Chief of Department hugs, kneels with protesters', https://www.fox5ny.com//nypd-chief-of-department-hugs-knee) #chaplain #chaplains #chaplaincy #justice #mercy #humility

22.01.2022 An opportunity to support and honour Hannahs legacy .
22.01.2022 Although many things have changed, our commitment to watching out for Brisbane when good times go bad has not waned. With the closure of the pubs and clubs, we have been making plans and figuring out the best, safest and most appropriate way to adapt to continue supporting those who are at risk, in need and in crisis. We have continued to provide a public safety NightWatch Chaplaincy patrol overnight every Thursday to Sunday. We'll continue to do so long as we are able.... We know that, although the big crowds are not in the inner city, vulnerable people and people at risk remain in our city. Our people stand equipped and ready to serve. We are still here, watching out for you when good times go bad.
22.01.2022 Watching out for You When Good Times Go Bad Brisbane City, (CBD, Fortitude Valley and Caxton) we are here for you - We know that for the late night entertainment precincts things look pretty grim, but we aren't going anywhere. We've made a bunch of necessary changes, to ensure that we can most safely and appropriately respond, and we have smaller team numbers so we have backup to ensure we can continue to serve you consistently, come what will.... But we are standing beside you, continuing in our committment to watch out for you when good times go bad. Even with this small reduction in team size, we will remain fully functional, with: - 2 Mobile patrols - Fully functional NightSafe Rest and Recovery - including dedicated emotional/mental health support - Fully operational communications centre You can still: - Call us to help (0475558000), - Direct people to our NightSafe Rest and Recovery centre (225 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley) - Bring people directly in to the NightSafe. Well be operating our normal hours: - Mobile patrol only - Thursday and Sunday 11:00pm to 2:00am - Patrols and rest and recovery - Friday and Saturday 10:30pm to 4:00am As always, you can contact us overnight on our NightWatch Hotline number: 0475558000 Well be constantly reviewing the situation, especially patronage in the precincts and the demand for our services, and well continue to make adjustments to ensure we are striking the right balance. Were prepared to weather the storm with you - If you're part of the late night entertainment scene in Brisbane, please dont hesitate to contact us if there is any way we can support you through this time. #chaplainwatch #nightwatchchaplains #brisbanenightlife #Brisbane #fortitudevalley #chaplains
22.01.2022 Our NightSafe Rest and Recovery Centre is officially 1 year old today! Last year we were honoured to have our eleven bed safe space in the heart of The Valley opened by local member Grace Grace MP and Minister for Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, Coralee O'Rourke MP. We can't wait for our reopening on July 10 to be a part of the recovery of the entertainment precinct of Brisbane following the stage 3 easing of restrictions!
22.01.2022 It's great to see some much needed support going to our friends in the live entertainment industry, as they begin reopening and moving towards recovery. We can't wait to get back to full NightWatch service in stage 3 to ensure Brisbane's entertainment precincts return with all the safety and support they have enjoyed for nearly 20 years of service! The business people and staff of the entertainment precincts have made the sacrifices necessary to ensure safety from Covid19 - we'll be present to ensure that sacrifice was not in vain, ensuring that safety continues throughout recovery, and beyond.

21.01.2022 ChaplainWatch Founder and Senior Chaplain, Lance Mergard, today received his Medal of the Order of Australia from the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC in a private investiture ceremony held at Government House. "For service to the community through social welfare organisations, including roles in both Queensland and New South Wales as a minister, welfare worker, and as the founder, Senior Chaplain and Chief Executive Officer of ChaplainWatch, a community charity which intervenes when people are in crisis, at risk, and in need." Lance was joined by ChaplainWatch CEO, Jesse Webb, ChaplainWatch Chair, Ross Howe, and family to share in this great honour.

19.01.2022 To all who supported, championed, served, volunteered, prayed for and believed in ChaplainWatch, and to all who were served by ChaplainWatch this year; Merry Christmas! May the hope, peace and wonder of The Lord be with you this Christmas, and may you and yours be blessed in 2021. "For unto us a Child is born,... Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Our NightWatch teams are having a well-earned break over Christmas, to come back refreshed next week, ready to serve for bigger hours and busier nights for New Year's Eve in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton!
18.01.2022 Long term NightWatch Chaplaincy volunteer, and full-time Australian Defence Force Chaplain, Marcaus Muller, recently had this article published in Crossover's Prac Magazine! What a great reflection on what our NightWatch Chaplains do and what motivates them to spend their weekends serving the city of Brisbane overnight in the entertainment precincts. "Street chaplaincy is the quintessential opportunity to serve in an environment without judgement. It is a genuine opportunit...y to connect with the other in our fallen world. To meet needs, introduce hope in the immediate crisis, and provide a starting point for connection for better life choices. At times chaplaincy on the street, in uniform, with patrol vest and radio is exciting and purposeful, respected and fulfilling. This may be harder to remember as an act of service on some humid or rain soaked nights at 3am after 5 hours on patrol with two more to go, with urine and vomit staining your clothing, and patience again being tested by innocence, ignorance, aggression, and alcohol. But another call comes in on the radio, or around the next corner lays another intoxicated teenager, and the call to serve your neighbour resonates once again." You can find the whole volume of Prac here: https://tinyurl.com/y9qh3f4m (Marcaus' article on page 7) to read about how Chaplaincy is done in many different contexts throughout Australia.

17.01.2022 6 months ago, we had the privilege of standing by the community as we all grappled with the loss of Hannah, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey. Its wonderful to see Small Steps 4 Hannah building a foundation to contribute to the massive effort required to put a stop to the coercive control and violence experienced by so many families in our nation. Please consider supporting Small Steps 4 Hannah if youre able.

12.01.2022 While you’re dancing, we’ll be watching out for you in case good times go bad, in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton.
11.01.2022 We've said we are staying, and we mean it! Our team continues to watch out for Brisbane when good times go bad. Given the temporary closure of late night entertainment venues in Brisbane, we've found a way to continue to do what we've always done: intentionally intervene to assist anyone at risk, in need or in crisis. ... COVID-19 poses a significant threat to our city's most vulnerable, and at the same time many of the organisations that work to reduce vulnerability have had to scale back their supports during this time of increased need. To share the burden, ChaplainWatch has partnered with Micah Projects and Vinnies QLD to respond to Brisbane's rough sleepers and vulnerable people while times are even tougher. Our staff and volunteers are now deployed with @Micah Projects in the inner city; 7 nights and 3 days every week. We're helping to arrange safe accomodation, deliver essential food and resources, and facilitating long term solutions to help people find a home for good. At the same time, with our help Vinnies QLD has reopened their Spring Hill support centre. We'll be supporting the centre every Tuesday and Thursday morning, responding to calls for assistance, making hampers and delivering groceries to those who are struggling in isolation. AND we haven't left our place overnight in the inner city either, with our incredible volunteers keeping a single NightWatch Chaplains mobile public safety patrol operating from 10pm to 4am every Friday and Saturday night. You can still call us on our hotline number 0475558000 and we'll be there to help! Best of all, we've found ways to ensure all three services can collaborate even better now and for the future. We are glad to say that Brisbane is in safe hands! #chaplainwatch #nightwatchchaplains #brisbanenightlife #brisbane #fortitudevalley #chaplains #covid19australia #micahprojects #vinniesaustralia #homeforgood #streettohome #goodworks
10.01.2022 In light of the Qld Premier's announcement this morning that greater Brisbane will be subject to a mandatory three day lockdown from 6pm tonight until 6pm Monday, we will be unable to undertake NightWatch services in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast this weekend. While the lockdown itself doesn't apply to the Sunshine Coast, the impacts on service staff make it impossible to run the service while complying with both the requirements and the intent of the lockdown. Services in Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton will continue as normal over the weekend. Wishing you peace and safety this weekend!
