21.01.2022 Hey Rebels, I know it’s been a while since we’ve had an event (like eons!) But don’t give up, some new developments are happening at Chapter53, stay tuned. We are not dead (yet!) In the meantime, just wanted to do a little shout out...our good friends Maison de Partage on the Mornington Peninsula are doing something pretty awesome in Sorrento this weekend. In keeping with the theme of ou Chapter53 events, the gang from MDP are inviting local producers to share their organi...c and sustainable produce which is presented in a delicious degustation prepared by the wonderful chef, Dallas (who was a reg and gave guest chef for Chapter53!) If you’re free, get on down to support them! They are fighting the good fight. (Mandy x)

19.01.2022 Joost just keeps fighting the good fight and marking it look so good at the same time

19.01.2022 How cool is this idea? Melbourne has some really great thinkers and doers.

17.01.2022 Zooey Deschanel on what’s in your olive oil. We’ve heard from North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) Executive Director Joseph R. Profaci who advised us t...hat there is a great deal of misinformation about the prevalence of fake olive oil, especially on social media. He pointed us to a recently published, peer-reviewed study by the FDA, which randomly tested 88 bottles of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) from supermarket shelves and did not find a single case of confirmed adulteration. As a result of the study, the FDA concluded that the risk of EVOO adulteration was low. This, Profaci says, is the result of strict quality control measures adopted by the industry in the last several years. Contrary to suggestions that no one is watching the store, Profaci says Mediterranean producer countries all have export controls in place to protect consumers, testing exports for purity and quality before they are shipped to the U.S. In addition, the United Nations-chartered International Olive Council (http://www.internationaloliveoil.org/estati//222-standards) and the NAOOA fund random, off-the-shelf testing in the U.S. The NAOOA, like ATTN:, does not want unsubstantiated claims, often made for financial gain, to frighten consumers into avoiding olive oil and all of its wonderful health benefits, such as lower rates of cardiovascular diseases and cancer (https://www.aboutoliveoil.org/olive-oil-leads-to-weight-loss). To help consumers know how to shop the olive oil aisle, the NAOOA provides a consumer guide (https://www.aboutoliveoil.org/whats-the-difference-between-). If you’re looking for even greater assurances, the NAOOA and ATTN: recommend that you look for and rely on third party certifications, such as those issued by the NAOOA (the NAOOA's certified list is here: https://www.aboutoliveoil.org/certified-olive-oil-list), California Olive Oil Council, and Extra Virgin Alliance. 12.01.2022 It’s a great tragedy when we lose someone who worked so hard to push boundaries, personally and in the world at large. But moreso is the tragedy that a human so open and honest, with so much passion for sharing experiences to better our understanding of cultures and food and beyond, still felt isolated in some way. Let’s honour this adventurous soul by being vigilant in broadening our horizons daily. But also by broadening our support networks, and opening up when things are... tough. We are all in this together. Share food, share ideas, share the hurt, equally. Vale Anthony Bourdain, and thank you. #elegantrebel See more

01.01.2022 If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move. Anthony Bourdain... Vale, rebel. Thanks. P.S. And also, friends, eat and talk. Don’t stop being rebellious. But just like you should take risks when you eat - push boundaries, share ideas, you should be doing the same with your thoughts. Nothing is so heavy it can’t be lightened by sharing. We’re all in this together. M x
