11.01.2022 Mindfulness is about being consciously aware of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. From personal experience, being present and mindful within the moment can help with feelings of anxiety about the future. There are plenty of tips online about how to practice mindfulness, from focusing on your breathing, to finding a comfortable place to sit. However for this post, we wanted to give you an example of being mindful. Imagine you were drinking coffee with a friend. Someone... who was mindful would be focused on what they were doing, i.e. present in the moment. However, someone who struggles to be mindful, may find themselves distracted by the pressures of life, with their mind being ‘somewhere else’. A mindful person in this situation would benefit from reduced anxiety, and improved concentration and listening skills. 06.01.2022 Its Friday guys! Weve made it through the working week! Todays topic for FAQ Fridays is all about managing stress and burnout. Stress is an inevitable part of life, and external and internal expectations can be a huge strain on our physical and mental resources. A pile up of assignments or projects with a small amount of time to complete can compromise our perceived ability to succeed, which sometimes leaves us exhausted with nothing left in the tank. Were no stranger to ...these feelings and have a few tips to manage this burn out feeling and fill up that empty energy tank a little (from @resilienceagenda). Building habits to grow our mental fitness is what its all about! Utilising these three key habits can help our mental wellbeing and focus, allowing for resilience for these energy draining times in our lives. 1. Sleep! Focusing on getting good quality sleep rather than just getting more sleep is super helpful, this can be done by switching off blue light devices (phone and laptop) an hour before bed, reducing caffeine intake after midday, and journaling worries and wins of the day before bed. 2. Exercise and movement! Yeah we dont all love exercising but taking micro-moments in your day to get out of your chair, maybe go for a 30-minute walk, or even do a few stretching exercises or yoga! This is a great healthy break to give yourself a little distance from that project 3. Finally, Relationships! Temporarily switch off and spend a few hours with friends or family, theyre a great source to vent to, and also great practice in interpersonal skills like empathy, understanding and patience. This year, with the pandemic and social distancing, it can feel isolating, which can leave us feeling tired, disengaged with work or life, and disconnected and longing to see friends and family. So we just wanted to offer a few ways that you can alleviate those lonely feelings. Checking in with your loved ones, this can seem obvious, but this can be done in many ways: 1. Through a simple text or message ...over social media, perhaps asking to catch up for lunch or a coffee 2. It's a bit old fashioned, but giving a call to a family member and hearing the voices of those you love can really give that small boost of reassurance 3. Finally, zoom and facetime!
