25.01.2022 WHAT'S UP IN THE HOOD... Did you know there’s a Charleville Cosmos Centre in regional QLD? Besides astrodome shows, you can book tours to view their amazing n...ight sky (esp. now with Jupiter & Saturn coming to a great conjunction!)... and request to look through their 9 Hydrogen Alpha Lunt Telescope (for a rare opportunity at sun viewing). Very cool! https://www.cosmoscentre.com (nb. closed Dec 23-Jan 3) (Picture credit: Mike Dalley, Cosmos Center astrophotographer)

The images and data they collect are so good, they're used by professionals at NASA, the Eurpopean Space Agency and the Japanese Space Agency. Read more here: ab.co/3js7jgW

05.01.2022 Get your telescopes ready for the Draconid Meteor Shower! Best viewed between the 6th - 10th October this week, the optimal evening for viewing the shower will be on the 7th. Typically, this is only a minor meteor shower compared to others, but it’s still sure to put on a show! The Draconid Meteor Shower is best viewed in the early evening in a dark location I think we have the perfect spot out here in Charleville!

02.01.2022 On Friday this week, Neptune will be at its closest approach to Earth, meaning it will be brighter than any other time of year. Illuminated by the sun, it will appear as a small blue dot in even the strongest telescopes because of its huge distance from Earth. Let us know if you manage to spot this planet or are lucky enough to capture a photo!

02.01.2022 Thank you to the Long Drive for Drought crew that visited us this evening fundraising for a very worthy cause, the Drought Angels Gave them a little taste of our history on the Top Secret WWII Tour - Charleville, Outback Queensland, Australia and then opened the Outback Night skies theatre up for them in our #bigskycountry

02.01.2022 Look up to the skies tonight and tomorrow and you might just spot a meteor! The Northern Taurids Meteor Shower only produces about 5-10 meteors an hour; however, this shower is famous for some really bright fireballs! The shower runs each year from October 20th to December 10th, but peaks on the 11th and 12th of November. During the peak period, the Northern Taurid shower is joined by the Southern Taurid shower, offering a bigger opportunity to see meteors. Look east towards ...the left of the saucepan/Orion constellation. Best viewed after midnight in a dark location, there could be some spectacular meteors in this shower! - #travelqld #travelqueensland #outbacktourism #travelaustralia #letsgo #starsandmoon #stargazing #cosmoscentre #cosmos #planetarium #telescope #moongazing #solarviewing #solartelescope #atronomy #astronomystories #outbackskies #clearskies #crystalclear #unfiltered #astronomyfacts #astronomynerd #astronomylovers #outbackadventure #outbackcollective #outbacklife #outbackculture #starstruck #starstuff See more
