25.01.2022 And just like that, it all ended. What a year and theres nowhere else Id love to see the season out than on the Mitta Mitta. The rivers were quiet and evidence of the bushfires were all around. Silted beds, eroded banks and debris characterised the Bundar and Cobungra. Like any wound, I have hope that nature will heal and the waters will spring back to life. For now, its time to rest, tidy up the kit and look forward to the future.

25.01.2022 While we can’t go fishing in real life, we can always go back there in our mind. This day brings back so many happy memories ... like when Katherine Grech got to see me pull in the smallest fish of my career I can’t wait for next season already. I’d love to know what your special moments that give you #hope are. #flyfishing #flattenthecurve #stayhome #5050onthewater

24.01.2022 This popped up on my feed today and I wanted to share it because I think it's a subject that warrants more attention. Personally, I think young minds need the solace of the great outdoors to maintain perspective on the crazy of everyday life. I certainly know I did and fly fishing gave me that timeout. So, if you're a parent, guardian, friend or relative of a young person, turn off the screen and go on an adventure because you'll learn more about yourself and the world than ...you ever could on an app. https://www.theoutbound.com//why-kids-need-wilderness-and- #getoutdoors #adventureawaits #healnaturedeficitdisorder

24.01.2022 Big thanks to Dan Andrews for easing restrictions. It was absolutely awesome to head into the bush with a friend (at a safe social distance) yesterday for some welcome outdoor recreation. The sun was shining and a few trout decided to play too. Just a reminder to everyone who goes fishing to stick to the rules and stay safe. For info on how to fish in a Covid-19 safe way check out: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/sport-cultural-and-recreational have a great weekend folks

23.01.2022 Love this! Makes me want to pick up my fly rod and head there right now. Nice job Galey MsGuided Fly Fishing #5050onthewater

23.01.2022 How I wish to travel back and soak my soul in this gin-clear water right now! When you mention ‘chalk streams’ to most fly anglers, the Test and the Itchen spring to mind. However, if you head ‘up north’ you will find two of England’s finest chalk streams that represent the pinnacle of the sport. I’m talking about the Lathkill and the Wye at Haddon Hall. Last year, I got to fish them and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. If you want to find out why then get swept up in m...y story here: https://www.charleymayflyfishing.com//chalk-stream-fishing Massive shout out to Riverkeeper Jan Hobot and the team at Haddon Estate for their tireless work in creating dream-worthy waters.

22.01.2022 Happiness is a small stream full of gold nuggets. Well, it certainly was for James and I. When we werent reminiscing about the old country and our favourite Brit beers we were landing lovely little brownies and letting them go in between the sunshine & storms. Its days like these that make guiding magical. Thanks James for a smashing day hope to see you again soon.

21.01.2022 Say gday to Robin. Down from Canberra, he was keen to explore some small water. So, I showed him one of my fave streams and we came back with big smiles! So many beautiful little fish that provided plenty of fun and one big brown that got away... and still haunts our dreams! Well, well just have to find it when youre back in Victoria #5050onthewater #flyfishing #flyguide #flyfishing_flygirls #visitvictoria

20.01.2022 I've been lucky enough to study with some seriously talented fly fishers. Each of them has gifted me a skill, lesson or piece of wisdom that I carry with me and pass on to my students. So, as a tribute to my fly fishing mentors and good teachers everywhere (because they deserve a bloody shout out), Im going to share what theyve taught me here. Hope you enjoy the read:-) https://www.charleymayflyfishing.com//fly-fishing-lessons-... Thanks to my dad, Scott McPherson, Val Young, Bob Young & Peter Hayes Fly Fishing for being awesome mentors. And big shout out to Kit Young , Sarah Rees & Ann Skarratt for the photos that help illustrate this piece.

20.01.2022 I qualified as a Certified Casting Instructor (CCI) on 26 July 2019. It took me 16 months to reach the standard required to pass the exam. It was a big deal and I was chuffed when I did. But its only now having had a bit of time to reflect, I realise just what an achievement it was. All those Saturday morning training sessions away from my family, the reading, practising, the constant feeling I should be doing more and the incessant self-doubt. I dont miss it, to be honest..., but I wouldnt swap the experience for the world because its helped me overcome some demons and taught me how to be a great fly fishing instructor too. So, if youve got a spare five Ill share with you what Ive learned: https://www.charleymayflyfishing.com//the-highs-and-lows-o Bob Young Val Young Mark Surtees Peter Hayes Debbie Dickinson

19.01.2022 After a hectic week, Ive had a little time to reflect on my recent trip with @jonathanmonk and Jay. Two fishers at different stages of their angling career who shared one common goal: to learn something new, have fun and maybe catch a fish or two. Its fair to say the day was a total victory Well done lads, there will always be a cool beer waiting for you in the esky, so just hit me up when you want another adventure #flyfishing #fishing #adventureawaits #getoutdoors #outdoorlife

18.01.2022 Want to get some insights on fly fishing from one of Americas greats? Then why not head along to Talk Wild Trout. Hopefully, Ill see you there.

18.01.2022 Heres a throwback from nearly 10 years ago. Id just moved back to Australia from the UK and needed to learn the ropes Down Under so, I googled fly fishing high country and Indulgence Flyfishing popped up. Little did I know that Id found a life long friend and man who had a massive influence on my fly fishing career. This guy taught me how to stalk trout, how to read water, how to converse with the Australian bush. They are lessons I carry in my tool box to this day and pass onto anyone willing to listen. Scott, I will be coming up your way when this over to celebrate the new season. Big love, brother. #flyfishing #5050onthewater #vicfishing #fishing #stayhome #covidkindness #hope

16.01.2022 You know those days when work actually feels like play? Well, teaching these fellas how to fly fish was just like that. Mike & David were fantastic students, full of energy and good humour. While it was a tough day with only a few bites, the scenery, wildlife and conversation were first class! Learning to fly fish is challenging but the best things in life are seldom easy. Im pretty sure these lads will be up for more adventures soon - bring it on, I say!

15.01.2022 #Flyfishing provides plenty of inspiration for my other passion... painting I finished this little study of a red tag fly @fitzroypainting painting tonight. It will be on sale at the Fitzroy Painting end of year show on Sunday 16 December. This piece is the first of a series Ill be working on over the next few months. Id love to know what fly you think I should paint next #fishing #art #painting #adventureawaits

15.01.2022 This guy. Possibly one of the nicest, most motivated and mindful dudes Ive met, this guy is the reason I love guiding. We headed out in pretty tricky conditions and came home with 8 fish to hand and a whole lot of soul candy. I love fly fishing because it really does allow you collide with the best people and this guy is one of them. Chijo I hope your trip back to Oregon was good and I cant wait to take you out again when youre back in Australia. Big love, brother #flyfishing #visitvictoria

15.01.2022 This pretty rainbow was one of 12 fish I thought Id never catch... There I was, on my way to Mansfield, car stuffed with booze, food, fly fishing apparel and the family, when I realised Id forgotten my rod. Panic ensued. Luckily, I picked up a lovely little 2wt the next day in town before hitting the river. ... Despite my best efforts I caught nothing Then another window of opportunity came up in the weekend and I bush bashed my way into another section of the Delatite. Well, the next three hours were nothing short of heart-stopping! The smallest is pictured and the biggest gave me the finger . I reckon it was at least 4lbs. Guess, Ill have to go back and find out! If youd like to join me, then Im taking booking for next season from September 2019. #flyfishing #visitvictoria #whenlifegivesyoulemons

14.01.2022 I don't know about you, but I'm feeling inspired! This looks like an awesome program... I've got to find a way to go. In the meantime, take 10 and enjoy the beautiful footage and the wise words from women who are passionate about teaching more women to fish. Go ladies! #flyfishingwomen #flyfishing

14.01.2022 Learning to fly fish is all about taking small steps on a big journey that will lead you to discover the most amazing places. If you want to join me, then hit me up. Im taking bookings for 2019 (fully booked for 2018!). Thanks to Sarah Rees for the photo :-) #flyfishing #adventureawaits

14.01.2022 Sunshowers, cold water and shy #fish. Classic early season conditions :-) But @louchristo.flyfishing and me still managed to find a few. A couple of nice for Lou & a brown and for me. 11.01.2022 Go Craig! That little fish in the net is the result of some serious effort that deserves celebrating A newbie to #flyfishing, Craig was an incredible student who was fishing well enough to catch dozens. The only problem was that the fish were not playing. Some days are like that and its what keeps you hungry and hoping for better luck next time Well done, Craig you totally rocked the fly rod #5050onthewater #getoutdoors #adventureawaits

11.01.2022 Meet Chris. Chris is a legend from the UK I took out recently. The weather was great, the water cool and clear and Chris was #fishing it brilliantly. Despite all of this, we caught nothing. But it didnt matter because there is so more to #Flyfishing - the nature, the shared fishing tips, the banter and the fact that were both alive and able to experience the beauty of our surrounds. If it was just about the fish we would have hung our rods up years ago. Its about mindfulness and the promise of catching a great fish that keeps you going back for more time and again :-) #flyfishing #flyfishing_flygirls #getoutdoors #adventureawaits #visitvictoria

11.01.2022 I have no idea what they're saying. But I don't really care because I understand exactly where they're coming from. It is SO refreshing to see a bunch of genuine outdoors women being badass fly fishing chicks on screen. Tight lines ladies!

09.01.2022 Check out this legend! Heres one of who knows how many trout we made friends with at a fishy little spot near Melbourne. After loosing what can only be described as a horse , Jason dusted himself off, got back in the saddle and landed a lovely selection of rainbows and browns. Looking forward to finding that big fish with you again #flyfishing #5050onthewater #flyfishing_flygirls #getoutdoors #adventureawaits

07.01.2022 It's been a massive year and a brilliant start to the season. So, I just wanted to give a big shout out to my clients, friends and family who've supported me in 2019. You each bring a little magic to my life on the water and I couldn't do what I do without you. There are a few folks who've been particularly instrumental in making this year one of the best I've had as a fly fishing professional. ... First up, big thanks to my wonderful wife Debbie Dickinson for your unwavering support. Bob Young and Val Young - thank you for mentoring me through my Certified Casting Instructor accreditation and always believing in me. I hope you all have a very happy Christmas and a fabulous New Year. Bring on 2020 I say, and I've still got a few spots in the diary for anyone who wants an epic adventure with me. Big love, Charley.

06.01.2022 Those days when you can show clients a great morning and then treat yourself to an afternoon panning for gold :-) This beauty was one of five to hand taken somewhere secret in the High Country. #magicdays #trout #flyfishing #troutbum #adventureawaits #getoutdoors

05.01.2022 I know I should be emptying my inbox and planning my working week on Monday morning but... this is much more interesting ;-) I'm often asked 'how do you read the water to know where the trout are?" and I'll run through many of things covered in this simple and effective feature. Once you know a bit about trout biology and the structure and environmental conditions of rivers you'll be able to target trout much more effectively.... Happy reading and tight lines folks :-) https://www.fix.com/blog/locating-trout-in-a-stream/

04.01.2022 What a ripper trip! This crew of awesome chicks I took out #flyfishing last weekend is why I love being a guide. All beginners, they embraced the challenge of learning something new & pretty tough with gusto. Two trout were caught (which is damn good going given how cold and fast the river was), lots of laughs were shared & a couple of tinnies were smashed to celebrate a sensational day. Big shout out to Scott McPherson for being a brilliant second guide. And big ups to Rosie Howell, Rebecca Taylor-Marshall, Dori and Sarah for being such legends - lets go #fishing again soon! #adventureawaits #getoutdoors #visitvictoria #flyfishing_flygirls

04.01.2022 Fly fishing is many things to different people. For me, one of its most magical qualities is its ability to connect you with incredible people. Rebels, pioneers, adventurers who embody the best of the human spirit. Helen Packer was one of those people that I recently lost. This is a tribute to our friendship: https://www.charleymayflyfishing.com//honouring-a-high-cou Packers High Country Horseriding

04.01.2022 Its Monday morning and I wish I was back in Tassie at Girls Gone Fly Fishing 2019 Event What a weekend! I learned, I laughed and I got to hangout with some awesome chicks. Massive shout out to Val Young Ann Skarratt Heather Hodson - Northwest Fly Girl Peter Hayes Fly Fishing Bob Young and all the other legends who made this retreat happen - it was inspiring, informative and heaps of fun. See you again next year! #fishing #flyfishing #flyfishinggirls #getoutdoors #adventureawaits

03.01.2022 Friends, family and fellow fly fishers, if you've ever visited and fished the Bundar Valley near Anglers Rest then you'll know what a truly magical part of the world it is. The people and peace in this place have rescued me many times when I've needed to refresh my soul. Now they need rescuing. This group of incredible people pictured here are working their arses off to protect their livelihoods and a unique and valuable part of Victoria. ... I've just donated to help them out - maybe you could too https://www.gofundme.com/f/anglers-rest-bushfire-support? Ps. That personal best wild trout was caught in a little stream near Anglers Rest.

03.01.2022 It was a pleasure to share one of my favourite rivers with The Governor of Victoria, the Hon. Linda Dessau AC, and give her a taste of why fly fishing and Mt Baw Baw is awesome for switching off & connecting with nature. A great student, she managed to bag herself a lovely brown trout

02.01.2022 When you take four awesome chicks #Flyfishing who make you LOVE your job! These girls were family and within about 10 minutes they made me & Indulgence Flyfishing feel part of theirs. We had an absolute ball learning to cast at Gentle Annie Caravan & Camping Reserve in Whitfield before hitting the upper King River to catch fish & sip prosecco on the banks. To say I had a brilliant day would be massive understatement because I honestly felt like I was living the dream. Thanks Nicole & Co. for a truly memorable day #fishing #visitvictoria #adventureawaits #outdoorlife #getoutdoors

02.01.2022 Theres no place Id rather be today than on a lovely calm river with these legends! I had the absolute pleasure of taking Cara Cummings and Dean from Cod & Yella fly fishing. They totally rocked it, were amazing students and cracking company. A complete novice, Cara landed her first wild brown trout on the fly and got a couple of takes, and Dean refined his casting techniques and got a couple of beauties. Its days like this that remind me how much I love working with great people and passing on my knowledge and skills. Well done guys, feel free to hit me up again if youd like another #flyfishing adventure #target1million #fishing #getoutdoors #vicfishing #5050onthewater #visitvictoria

01.01.2022 Very much looking forward to presenting at this Zoom meeting tomorrow. Anyone interested in knowing more about fishing to famous English chalk streams should log on. Check out the details below ...

01.01.2022 This is what out-fishing a guide looks like ... Katherine Grech was pretty damn pleased with herself when she caught and released this beautiful wild brownie on a dry fly. Fair enough given she is a complete beginner. This fish was the biggest caught on our trip and one of three to hand that Katherine landed. As for me, well, I caught a few too but helping others do so is a bigger buzz. #flyfishing #visitvictoria #flyfishing_flygirls #getoutdoors #adventureawaits
