25.01.2022 Nettletons Creek is 1.1 m on the indicator, we've had 166.2 mm last 48 hours. Photos from 9am this morning 9/2/2020

24.01.2022 Pink Fairy ~ Caladenia carnea These orchids are pollinated by small native bees and are an important part of eucalypt forests, woodlands and heath. Their orchid mycorrhizal fungi has the ability to synthesise and utilise nutrients for them, especially from decaying leaf matter. It's a delicate and complex balance, as is mother nature .... #caladeniacarnea #pinkfingers #morningwalk #walbanga #yuincountry #charleysforestfarm See more

20.01.2022 We'd like to re-home our beautiful last remaining duck - Snoopy. Unfortunately he has no friends left here at the farm and is in need of warmth, friends and a pond to splash in. Snoopy is a muscovey X peking duck = hinny. You can't breed from him but he is incredibly gentle and good with other ducks and chickens. He is two years old, very healthy, and free to a good home. If anyone in the Braidwood area would like him or know someone who can help we'd very much appreciate it! The nights are getting too cold for him

19.01.2022 We are still picking huge bowls of raspberries everyday as well as all our summer veg. Normally this time of year the frost would have killed everything, these beds would be fully dug over, manure added and prepared for next spring! Enjoying the extended season and the incredibly warm weather but it's also disturbing.

18.01.2022 The liliums are flowering! I’m adding so many more flowers to the vege garden these days

16.01.2022 Trialling a new wombat proofing idea - the hooks go in over a foot deep, pinning down pipe around the netting (which comes out about a foot or so). First night went well

16.01.2022 Fire at Nerriga Rd near Durran Durra. Breeze has just picked up and it’s swinging all over the place, but has mostly been easterly all day. Stay safe peeps. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me

16.01.2022 Isa Browns are such troopers!

15.01.2022 Selling some sheep, send me a PM if you're interested :)

15.01.2022 Good morning! I never tire of this view #charleysforestfarm

15.01.2022 Morning walk ~ The male flowers of the Black She-oak, Allocasuarina littoralis. This species of she-oak is dioecious, meaning it has seperate male and female plants. Pictured here is the male plant. The female plants have small red flowers which go on to form the cones that the Glossy Black Cockatoo's love so much. #charleysforestfarm #allocasuarinalittoralis #sheoak

15.01.2022 The last orchid season I experienced like this was 11 years ago. It's a bit early in the season, by around 4-6 weeks for some of the species though. Soil temps are warm early and the rain is regular. A big growing season for the southern hemisphere! #morningwalk #caladenia #charleysforestfarm

13.01.2022 Cracked open the Medlar Brandy we made a year ago and out inspecting the current crop. Love Medlars and this brandy is exquisite! Happy mother's day and cheers to Medlars!

13.01.2022 I'll just stay here for a bit Eastern long-necked turtle (Chelodina longicollis). In early summer the female lays her eggs in an excavated nest hole the river/lake bank, buries her eggs, leaving them to incubate on their own. 3-5 months later hatchlings break out and commence feeding. They are opportunistic carnivores - feeding primarily on fish carrion, freshwater shrimp, water boatmen, midges and small fish. This one was rescued from the road and relocated to a safer... and closer spot in the direction he was heading. Always take note of what direction they are pointing and if you do pick them up off the road, be prepared for the musk gland fluid they'll leak all over you and be road safe! #easternlongneckedturtle #chelodinalongicollis #walbanga #yuincountry See more

12.01.2022 Smoke from current fires - Air Quality Index - (AQI) above 200 is considered hazardous. Inside the house right now it is 480, outside is 500+ (our detector stops at 500).

12.01.2022 Pterostylis nutans are out! Commonly known as the nodding greenhood, and like many terrestrial orchids in Australia, it gets some of the energy and nutrients it needs through orchid mycorrhizal fungi. It's an incredible relationship, and not just in orchids - many plants have a link between the mycorrhizae, the soil food web and their vegetation community. Plants can even communicate to each other through the fungi network!

12.01.2022 Morning walk White fingers - Petachilus catenatus This orchid doesn't produce nectar and is usually pollinated by native bees. They have distinctive landing apparatus guides on the labellum (lip) to guide the bees toward a nectar supply - which in this case doesn't exist, it just looks like other orchids who do supply nectar. ... The fascinating and wonderful world of orchids! #australiannativeorchids #petachilus #caladenia #charleysforestfarm #nativeorchids

11.01.2022 We are lucky to have the wonderful RFS Volunteer Community Liaison Officers, Bronwyn and Norman. They have been busy visiting residents on Charleys Forest Rd and Mongarlowe village, and have also been stationed at the Mongarlowe Fire Shed to keep the community informed about the Currowan Fire. Thank you so much from all of us in Mongarlowe & Charleys Forest for everything, it is very appreciated!

04.01.2022 Morning walk Monga Waratah Adapted to pollination by birds, a resident of the Gondwana supercontinent, it is so special to have this ancient member of the Proteaceae family naturally occuring in the region and on our farm.
