25.01.2022 Charlies Foundation for Research is pleased to partner with OccuMED to help fund much needed research into Silicosis. Silicosis is a disabling and often fatal lung disease caused by breathing dust that has very fine pieces of crystalline silica in it. Currently there is no cure. 25.01.2022 This month is Tradies National Health Month. Michael, pictured below, was a stonemason and worked with artificial stone on a daily basis. Earlier this year, Michael was diagnosed with silicosis, an incurable lung disease that is often fatal. He was lucky enough to go and get a checkup and find his silicosis early, allowing him the opportunity to get himself out of the industry to give himself the best possible chance. The installation serves as a reminder of the importance of humanitys interconnectedness and the ongoing legacy the act of donation offers to humanity. It is a place where Western Australians who have received life transforming organ and tissue transplants and donor families can visit and take a moment to reflect.... We here at Charlies are lucky enough to hear some amazing stories about how peoples lives have been changed and saved because they received an organ transplant. One of those stories is Brienna and Braedons. And it truly is amazing. Two young kids lives were saved and this sculpture will serve as a reminder for people like them.
