24.01.2022 Many other cancers are homogeneous, meaning that the abnormalities and the proteins seen on the surface of the cells are quite uniform. Brain cancer is typically very heterogeneous, which means all the cells are so different. They actually estimate that there may be 300 different types of cancer in one brain cancer, making it incredibly difficult to tackle. Prof. Charlie Teo Charlie Teo Foundation is tackling brain cancer head-on.

24.01.2022 "Hello, my name is Karen, I‘m 40 years old and I live on acreage on the Mid North Coast of NSW. I am married and have 3 children aged 15, 11 and 7. On 19 December 2014, my life changed when I was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which was a Grade III Anaplastic Astrocytoma. I had surgery in February 2015 where 30% of the tumour was removed. I then had radiation treatment in April and May 2015. In my July 2015 MRI scan there was a small amount of shrinkage in size of the tumour.... Since then the tumour has remained stable with no change, so now I am just monitoring it with regular scans. I am trying to fundraise as much as I can to help Charlie Teo Foundation. I am going to have my hair cut short on 19 December 2020 and am donating my hair to an organisation who make wigs for cancer patients. Please help me by making a donation through my page. It only takes a minute and any money you can give (no matter how large or small) will go a long way to helping me reach my target. Thank you, I really appreciate your support..." https://charlie-teo-foundation.grassrootz.com//chop-for-br Well done Karen, let's show our support by (Scott Calvin, Wingham Chronicle)

23.01.2022 Brain cancer hasn’t taken a break. People are still dying and suffering from brain cancer and we can’t ignore them. We want you to know that we see you, we hear you, and we’re doing everything we can to fund the best brains to beat brain cancer.

22.01.2022 Meet our brain cancer researcher Dr Kristina Cook. Kristina, who fought her own battle with a rare tumour, is taking aim at the circadian ‘clock’ of brain cancer cells. Interestingly, the clock which normally helps us anticipate and adapt to the regular rhythm of the day is out of sync in brain cancer cells. Understanding its power may be the missing link to understanding why targeted treatments are not working in brain cancer.

22.01.2022 Dr Charlie Teo loves teaching. Throughout his career, Charlie has taught minimally invasive neurosurgery techniques to neurosurgeons from all around the world including the U.S., Germany, Italy, Russia, South-East Asia, India, Bangladesh, China, the UAE, Syria, Jordan, Peru, Columbia, the list goes on and on We are fortunate to receive the latest insights, discoveries and ideas from these people so we can find the best brains to beat brain cancer.

19.01.2022 As we come to the end of childhood cancer awareness month, our founder Prof Charlie Teo reflects: What’s our future? It’s our children. They’re the ones that hold the destiny of this earth and our species in their hands. You would think that a cancer that kills more children than any other disease should get the most funding, but it doesn’t. At the Charlie Teo Foundation we concentrate on brain cancer research in both adults and children. We are working desperately hard to try and find treatments, to ensure ALL of our children have a future.

18.01.2022 Our lovely Marcella Zemanek is turning 75 this month and she has made the decision to retire! We cannot thank Marcella enough for her 13 years of dedication and loyalty to Charlie, the Charlie Teo Foundation and the brain cancer community generally. During her time she has raised a phenomenal amount for brain cancer research and more recently Marcella has been an integral member of the Charlie Teo Foundation team. Although she is stepping down as our Community & Ambassador M...anager, she remains a valued member of our family as she joins the ranks of some very well-known and loved faces as a volunteer Ambassador of the Charlie Teo Foundation. In true Marcella style she has generously made it her mission to raise funds for brain cancer research, in lieu of gifts, in celebration of her 75th Birthday! If you would like to contribute, please follow this link https://charlie-teo-foundation.grassrootz.com//marcella-s-

17.01.2022 Brain cancer patient and all-round inspiring woman, Gina Raccanello, recently fundraised for the Charlie Teo Foundation and raised a phenomenal $13,202. It is outstanding people like Gina whose passion, determination and grassroots fundraising is essential in our work to beat brain cancer. Here is Gina’s story: In 2013 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and four years later following an MRI discovered that the cancer had metastasised to my brain. They had identified a numbe...r of aggressive brain cancer tumours. Prof. Charlie Teo has operated on me 4 times since 2017 and I’ve made my 60th birthday, something I doubted 7 years ago. My attitude and Charlie’s skills have kept me going but not cured my reoccurring brain tumours. I’ve lived in small rural communities in North Queensland all my life and I know it’s the people who make things happen. Over the years I’ve fundraised and supported many organisations but the character of the Charlie Teo Foundation resonates with me and is what I believe everyone’s hard earned efforts should go to the purpose of the foundation and in this case, a cure for brain cancer. My fundraising wouldn’t happen without the ‘team’ who support and encourage me and I sincerely thank them. My faith in Professor Charlie Teo goes beyond his medical profession as he tirelessly aims to raise awareness and support for brain cancer research because at the moment there is no definite cure. He is open and honest with his patients and promotes a wholistic approach to improving one’s health and leads by example. Charlie gives me hope and inspires me. I live life to the full and passionately raise funds for brain cancer research because I believe that one day it will prevent someone going through the same ordeal I have and they will find a way to stop brain cancer and its occurrence or reoccurrence.

14.01.2022 Meet Phil and his incredible family who have been fundraising for the Charlie Teo Foundation over the last couple of years! At midnight tonight Phil will be leading the charge walking for 24 hours straight to raise funds for brain cancer research. Phil shared why he and his family are so passionate about fundraising for the Charlie Teo Foundation. We started fundraising for cancer because of close family experiences. In 2006 my wife’s older sister had been touched by brea...st cancer. Two years later my wife Charmaine, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. The staff and surgeons were so awesome in their genuine care for my wife’s rehabilitation that it moved her to form Sister Acts for the purpose of fundraising to support the fight against cancer and in recognition of the great work done by cancer health workers. Along with her 4 Sisters heading our family team, we joined the annual NSW Cancer Relay for Life activity in Penrith for whom we fundraised for 7 years before deciding to change our focus to the Charlie Teo Foundation. We were looking to change to a charity with low running costs. Charlie had recently set up the Charlie Teo Foundation with the pledge to have very low running costs. That ticked the first box and secondly his renown work with his patients especially children ticked the other. This will be our third-year walking for the Charlie Teo Foundation. You can show your support to Phil by making a donation on his fundraising page: https://charlie-teo-foundation.grassrootz.com/t/sister-acts

13.01.2022 In 2008, Vintage FM’s Ann Willmington was diagnosed with a brain tumour and told she had 18 months to live. Ann then visited Dr Charlie Teo and after three operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy she was given a second chance. Ann is now dedicated to finding a cure for brain cancer and to help achieve this she came up with the idea of Music for Life. The Music for Life Ball has successfully raised funds and awareness for brain cancer research over the past 12 years. This year, Music for Life becomes the Music for Life Radiothon raising funds for the Charlie Teo Foundation. It will be broadcast live on Vintage FM on Saturday 28 November 2020 from 2pm 6pm. Thank you to the sponsors Satec Global for your support. To find out more and get involved, please head to Music for Life

10.01.2022 Good luck to Bailey Sweeny Racing who is making his motorsports debut at Bathurst this weekend! 17-year old Bailey is an Erebus Academy driver. The roof of Bailey’s car carries the Charlie Teo Foundation logo as a tribute to Bailey’s grandmother who passed away from brain cancer. Bailey’s mum, Michelle, has shared their story: Mum passed away in 2018 from brain cancer and Charlie helped prolong her life as she had GBM, which is the worst brain cancer possible. We want to do our part to raise awareness to help other people going through this terrible disease. Thank you Bailey for helping raise brain cancer awareness. We're all behind you!

09.01.2022 Meet our brain cancer researcher Dr Joshua Chou! The world being round, human flight, travelling to space All these things once thought impossible have been made possible. Now an Australian researcher wants to take brain cancer to space in an effort to find curative treatments. Many call this impossible but we are working to make this possible.... Joshua’s out of the box thinking is why he was the first ever recipient of our Teo Research Fellowship earlier this year. He has built the first ever biological microgravity device in Australia (pictured with him). He has already shown that in 4 other types of cancer, up to 90% of cancer cells died at close to zero gravity. Now the Charlie Teo Foundation is funding him to study this in brain cancer to see 'how' it can disrupt or kill brain cancer. First step, he will be using brain tumour tissue from the Charlie Teo Foundation Brain Tumour Bank aiming to build the world’s very first, fully-functioning brain tumour on a microchip. This ‘chip’ will have a blood brain barrier, blood vessels and a brain tumour in it. We are excited to announce that this research has since being selected through a competitive process across Australia for publication as a special issue in Advanced Functional Materials in 2021. Next step will be to launch the chip into Space to study it at zero gravity. Back on Earth, Joshua will study what’s changed and will aim to mimic these changes with new drug treatments for patients with brain cancer.

08.01.2022 With only 24 hours to go, this is your last chance to bid for one of our incredible Aboriginal art works, kindly donated by Yanda Art. 05.01.2022 Charlie Teo Foundation is experimenting whilst managing risk. We believe our disruptive research strategy has the potential to change the future for people with brain cancer. We won’t always succeed, we won’t always get it right, but the biggest breakthroughs in science never came from being safe. Come on the journey with us, believe in us, and let’s see what we can achieve. Together we can beat brain cancer Prof Charlie Teo AM

02.01.2022 Kylie is half way through her six week radiation journey following surgery with Charlie. Our brain cancer community know this feeling. We are all with you Kylie, sending hugs, support and best wishes in your fight to kick this disease! In Kylie’s words: Had a chat with Charlie before I started radiation on my remaining brain tumour - I cried, I laughed. Brain cancer kills more children in Australia than any other disease and more people under 40 than any other cancer Government we need more funding it’s the least funded cancer! #kickitkylie
