25.01.2022 This COVID season has certainly grown us all and made new skill learning and implementing a necessity in running business and personal life. The juggle of being committed to motherhood and a career, both involving high energy, creativity and investment, is intense at the best of times let alone in a world pandemic! My female mentors and role models walking the same path have shared with me the importance of finding a personal assistant with the right heart and mindset; its c...ertainly been a journey of learning trust, to find this incredible woman @amyheinn A huge shout out to you my dear - talented and skilled, with a heart of integrity, honesty and some good back chat Thank you for all you collaborate and add to in my life and enabling the overflow. It was a barrel of laughs learning what to do with this silly light together @gospocollective #appreciationpost #nofilter #technology #she #legend #saturdaylove See more

24.01.2022 Personal Childhood/adulthood experiences, to stories, movies and books of the struggles of inequality and injustice between colours and ethnicities has been par...t of daily life. Now my childrens. We discuss race and ethnicity as part of our usual conversation and the issues surrounding how many in the world, view people who are different, coloured ... Im interested by Australia and the worlds response to the recent story of George Floyds death - as this is not a new phenomenon to be in shock by. Or appalled due to .... In this beautiful land Australia, the treatment of our rightful landowners, our Indigenous, has been as brutal from the beginning. I had no idea that by 1911, 123 years after British illegal arrival, the Aboriginal population had dropped from 750,000 to merely 31,000! I have to get up to speed more on our history here - its obvious to me. In the 34 years of being an immigrant and adopted to the country, I have truly never seen fellow Aussies rally this hard for people of colour. A step in the right direction for us all or fuelled by media popularity and fashion ... ? We all know, Its one thing to protest and chant. Its another thing to advocate peace that results in change. Racial awareness, awakening, and advancing forward - whilst working within the rules of our social distancing policy at this time specifically in our world for the protection of all people, is my hope and prayer. That we all keep marching on with the truth on a daily basis, to evolve with better education, respect and understanding for race, culture and humanity.

23.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. As the world has changed during COVID, we are all evolving to become where we find ourselves in 2020. Past ways of viewing people, life and activities have altered, and in this space, I find myself with more time at home, the ability to relax of an evening more regularly rather than a rehearsal or a gig. One of my favourite things to do now is getting into bed early with my wheat bag and work my way through an in...spiring book, a biography or turn on a Netflix documentary/life story over the week. These past few days Ive been investing into Quincy Jones, and today my Sunday vibe is I Cant Help It, from the album Off The Wall; a great collaboration of Qs with Pop King, Michael Jackson. Many have recorded this chart since, Gretchen Parloto, Esperanza Spalding to name some well-known versions. Such a groovy set of changes. Such a sassy tune. Such a true expression of how it feels to see someone and feel an attraction. In our states of isolation and inability to connect the way we used to, this still reminds me of that magic and gives me the hope of creating these special moments, despite. Thank you music. You remind me how beautiful life can be. Happy Sunday to all. Hoping you too can flashback to a magical memory of spark in your life, or better yet, create one now. ~ Charmaine Jones

17.01.2022 Its school holidays again and Im reflecting on the last break we had in the throes of COVID - where we couldnt have family and friends close by and the world was in such an uncertainty. 17.01.2022 One of my very favourite tunes when I first started listening and learning Jazz music. This beautiful arrangement by my darling talented friend, Ross Burford brings tears to my eyes always. You know the feeling the lyrics imply .. In the wee small hours of the morning, thats the time you miss her most of all ... the cool, air, the quiet darkness ... #music #life #love #family #jazz #vocals #Repost @gospocollective with @get_repost Last night, we had our final online Zoom session for Term 2 for our Gospo Education programs! 17.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons during isolation for a tune to spur on the week ahead. This jazz standard was written by two of my very favourites - Hoagy Carmichael in 1927 with lyrics added in 1929 by Mitchell Parish. Star Dust - what a hauntingly beautiful, epic tune. My most beloved version is that of Nat King Coles, thanks to my late Appas (grandfathers) love of the magnificent African - American crooner. In moment of reflection for a beautiful friend in my life who went t...o rest this last week, I thought of her smiling face and kind, loving eyes whilst I sang the lyrics you wander down the lane and faraway, leaving me a song that will not die .... how wonderful that music connects us above and beyond concepts like life and death and through melodies and lyrics we are joined forever, for eternity. Disie, this one is for you. Sleep well darling ~ Charmaine Jones

15.01.2022 Sunday Sessions: 24th May - Join me every Sunday afternoon during isolation for a tune to spur on the week ahead. In a time when the world is in total disarray and we know not how the winds blow or the seasons may change .... one thing remains constant. Hope. Music has always instilled this in me - and this 1868 hymn by an American Baptist Minister, Robert Wadsworth Lawry and known as an old a Quaker or Shaker number cannot express my sentiments for a time like this better.... Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul ... No storm can shake my inmost calm While to that refuge clinging; ... How can I keep from singing? May you keep singing this Sunday and everyday. ~ Charmaine Jones

15.01.2022 Who would have thought having some tamed locks could be such a treat. Often as a performer, putting on makeup and getting my hair done has felt like chore - its part of my work routine at the end of the day. As much as I love fashion and art expressed In this way, Id much rather a fresh face and my hair pulled back to get the jobs I need doing, done, in my busy daily life. But today I almost fell asleep in the chair @marionhairandbeauty as Ashleigh pampered my newly cut and... coloured locks by @hair_by_jazzyfresh in a particularly well run social distancing and clean salon, so I could come home with ease and peace of mind to get ready for a photo shoot (which I also actually enjoyed doing this morning!). There is a different gratitude about life as we know it these days - and I for one will continue to hold this lesson learnt during COVID, close to my heart, as our new realities begin. @isabelle.label @gospocollective #work #play #art #life #cheesybuttrue @marionhairandbeauty See more

13.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. After a few beautiful days here in SA, spring was hinting its disposition, reminding me of this great tune which we shared with Paul Kolomitsev; a Rewind to the music of Prince at the peak of winter. How quickly the seasons change. ... However, Perhaps this year we have felt more stuck than moving - but as usual, a tune can spur a momentum, a feeling, a hope. I look forward to strollin soon; perhaps holding hands. That would be nice ~ Charmaine Jones

13.01.2022 Music has always been a big part of Pembroke and, during isolation, we had to find new ways of making music together. We are pleased to share with you this wonderful recording of 'We've Only Just Begun' featuring students from the Pembroke Choral Group Programme.

09.01.2022 Sunday Sessions: 14th June - Join me Sunday afternoons during isolation for a tune to spur on the week ahead. This tune was written in 1848, and there are two conflicting stories regarding its origin; one refers to it having an African spiritual nature, and the other is that it is an old Shaker tune. The Shakers were people who believed in the simplicity of life. It goes to show us that every culture has its own beliefs and thoughts and that there is beauty in all our culture...s and belief systems around the world. It is up to us to search that beauty out and to understand that they are gifts that are given for us to apply in our daily lives. This tune really moved me this week as I prepared it for Pembroke Schools Online Chapel. It reminded me to focus on the things of this world that bring us hope and life, especially in times of turbulence. It seems we continue to turn brother against brother, sister against sister, and we are turning our children against each other, perpetuating a cycle of people who cannot see mercy, justice, and equality. This is a serious issue in this world, and perhaps you dont want your feed to be filled with the realities that face us square in the eyes at the peak times, but these realities indeed exist. I humbly ask that instead of scrolling past this post, you will take the time to listen to the lyrics of this song and let it sit in your spirit and speak to you. ~ Charmaine Jones

09.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. Its been a busy Sunday being able to be back at workshop with the Jones Commentary, socially distanced but finally making sounds together rather than online! However all our online sessions have not been in vain and this tune from our Thursday night live stream from Bens living room is a perfect example of us as artists so desperate to create together. There is no money. Its all dried up. This is true. Artist...s all around the globe are in struggle town. And we acknowledge this and share the plight in our thoughts, prayers and offerings. But despite all of this struggle, you can see there is a lot of love here - For each other and the ability to execute our craft together. So, hope for a better future, is overflowing. We dont see gathering together to share music voluntarily as compromise of our livelihood in our industry - we each have sacrificed a lot to make music a part of our lives and our greatest wish and belief is that we will all evolve again to being able to find safety and solace in every way viable, to keep our artistry and creativity alive. In this moment, we refuse to stop making music, giving of our time and skills to unite and bring some joy to whomever tunes into Gospo Collective Facebook LIVE whilst we remember the struggle of composers and artists before us and around us; As their energy fills our senses with courage and gratitude. Georgia - what a song. What a meaning. What a reminder. Of all that artists have gone through, in hopes of the promise land. Michael Griffiths joined the team with his beautiful spirit and sound. It was an incredible pleasure to collaborate. When we finally get to perform to a live audience and all that entails please support our industry with your time, pocket, heart and soul. Please. ~ Charmaine Jones

09.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. When I started studying jazz music as a genre age 17, the feel that most took my liking was Latin Jazz or elevator music as Id heard described as by many around me at the time. My first introductions to this great form of Jazz was Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz playing the music of Antônio Carlos Jobim - you know, The Girl from Ipanema ... the tune that many a jazz musician Ive played with, often rolls their ...eyes over. Fast forward 20 plus years and Brazil Jazz is still one of my most favoured forms of music and the depth and quality in rhythm, subdivision, melody, harmony, lyricism, tradition and culture still astounds me. If youve listened to the many versions of Jobim alone playing his Garota de Ipanema, youll know exactly what Im saying. This tune, another Jobim Jazz standard classic, done my way for this sunny Sunday afternoon. Dindi - (pronounced Jin-jee French style and not with english sounding D). Much love and quiet thoughts to you today. ~ Charmaine Jones

07.01.2022 Taking a moment in meditation today to reflect on all of the world piecing their lives back together or still going through the tough peaks or brutal aftermath of the COVID pandemic. Here in Australia it can seem removed; we are protected somewhat of the severity and devastation this outbreak has caused in many people, personally and professionally. How it has changed us in ways we might like or potentially dislike and returning back to normal will be a completely new sense of that phrase. Take a moment. Breathe in and hold. And in that space, know someone is sending you positive energy and hopeful thoughts. Exhale and just keep walking. May your week be all it should. #fightthegoodfight #lovethyneighbour #humanity

07.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. This sunday is more of what I love to do in art and life. Family music and food. We are all in the Barossa Valley this week, a home away from home with our girls, the BBCs of Tanunda. You might recognise a familiar face in Maggie Beer who has been a cornerstone of this group since its beginnings and always trys to plan her work commitments around our singing rehearsal times. These women have been my friends ...and mentors for over a decade - and it has been a pleasure to introduce and collaborate my musical family from the city Gospo Collective to my Barossa family over the years. Enjoy this Sunday session from our Sunday session! A sing along with great food and wine, tears and laughter, harmony and unity. Day by day - from Godspell. Thrown together in 10 minutes for your listening pleasure xx ~ Charmaine Jones

06.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. I've been deeply moved and affected by the music that developed due to what history calls "the middle passage" but we are all aware was the time of capture, slavery and intense hardship for the people of Africa into the Americas. Yesterday, the 4th of July is marked as 'Independence' Day for America. ... "The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states. The Congress had voted to declare independence two days earlier, on 2nd July, but it was not declared until 4th July." However, in reality, and great sadness, we note that equality and freedom, respect and independence has even recently been pointed out as far from reach - especially for people of colour. And this thought process continues all around the world. Yet ... like air rises, (to quote a mega mover and shaker, Maya Angelou) so do words written from a time long ago - about hope and faith, justice, grace and mercy. I wrote this tune 'Unfailing', reflecting on all these thoughts and keeping the stories of the many brothers and sisters in our world who have been persecuted and yet have not allowed the giants of this world to strip their knowledge of unfailing love, peace and joy. Here is the Gospo Family, breaking it down for you this Sunday afternoon in our usual mash up styling, with the groovy cover by Faith Evans and Fatman Scoop. One of my favourite tunes to break a sweat to, dancing all night - Love like this. Getting you through your Sunday afternoon with a whoop whoop. ~ Charmaine Jones

05.01.2022 Defying all the odds - teaching your teen. As an educator and mother, I feel so fulfilled when I can collaborate with my children in their art process and progress. And any muso would tell you, instructing your own child is often the hardest job. And a kid of a full time muso would say learning from your parent is the harder gig for sure ... Whomever is more correct, I believe there is nothing greater than when both can come together in harmony and unity - for just magical forever moments, musically, spiritually and emotionally. My big girl at 13 could have kicked my butt at equal age vocally in knowledge of her instrument and usage. As my Ez grows in her musicality and humanity, I know she knows for certain, that I will be there for her backstage or front row, every step of the way. #daughters #mothers #learning #teaching #forever #defyinggravity #defyingtheodds #sundaypjssesh

05.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoon for a tune to spur on the week ahead. Nothing like a standard - and recorded by two faves Sarah Vaughn and Ella Fitzgerald, Day in, Day Out is one of my all time faves. I had a moment two whirl through it - wishing the whole time I had a real jazz pianist to accompany me! ... I miss singing jazz and jamming with other musos but grateful for the standards maintained to protect our state in the current climate; whilst being grateful for the standards maintained in jazz to this day by wonderful instrumentalists and vocalists. Peace and love to you all - day in and day out! ~ Charmaine Jones

05.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. What a world... what a life... 2020 and its almost Spring! Sometimes its hard to get motivated to go out and venture into beautiful parts of our old lives - but today we (the girls and I) along with some friends, hit the art gallery and museum to remember and renew, and it was an emotional experience. Today, a very very unprocessed Sunday sesh - a synopsis, a wrong chord, a dusty piano, PJs and a fresh face,... but its all about Emotions - and at the best of times our emotions are indeed coarse and entirely unadulterated. Quite like me, this morning. The Bee Gees nailed this tune first, covered later by Destinys Child, and now a little snapshot by me, for your Sunday, in all its rawness. Special love to Melbourne family, friends and community, as they head into another week of lockdown and all the emotions that come along with this state. Thoughts with you ~ Charmaine Jones

04.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. My socials have been flooding with fantastic mid-year collaborations over the years to which Ive grown quite accustomed to as a performer and educator. This year, it is strangely quiet, and although the melodies still linger on, as do the memories, its a sad and challenging time for many artists; unable to create and execute the craft in the way weve been accustomed. ... In reflection, I was musing on last years moments, and this song brought memories of working with a now dear friend, Chong Lim AM and our troupe of choirs at Gospo, the Jones Juniors, Jones Commentary and Jones Chorus who made their debut performance in this specific show season with the music of The Carpenters. If you grew up listening to Karen and Richard Carpenter, youd know what Im talking about when I say, after that music, youre never the same again. And it was indeed joyous to see the youth in our community dressed in their flairs, skivvies, platforms and centre parts, fully engrossed in the singing those iconic tunes, like Solitaire and Superstar, albeit with the signature Gospo spin. I miss that; the stage moments where you see people take flight in music - soaring, crashing and rising again like a Phoenix. And Superstar; what a tune, written in 1969 by Russell, Bonnie and Delaney Bramlett. Id forgotten some words but never the sentiment. Happy Sunday to all you Superstars, keep shining. ~ Charmaine Jones

04.01.2022 Join me Sunday afternoons for a tune to spur on the week ahead. Its been an interesting story for me in art/life thus far. Nothing like I planned ..... And as always, music keeps me grounded and forward thinking in the best ways; this is a mere example.... Til There Was You is a tune I wrote for the girls father in 2002 when we were first together. I havent sung it in over almost 2 decades. It was poignant and important to revisit it with our children - and no time like the present. Relationships of every kind come to an end sometimes for a variety of reasons but what we choose to take out of it, are the ways of us as beings, not only surviving, but thriving; and continuing to evolve. Being with my girls, the blessing of walking the womanhood journey as a mother, only highlighted the necessity for this past place in my life that allowed me to have these two precious humans now and for the future - and as part of my present existence. The song I wrote for their Dad took on a whole new meaning and I was filled with gratitude for the path Ive walked, walking and will walk. For the girls lives and for the beauty and goodness that a collaboration with their father bestowed on my person. It certainly seems a much better way to focus on that space in my life journey. How music heals ... transforms! After the recording, I realised Id forgotten some of the original lyrics; but most of them are recalled , a bit like the memories attached to this tune after all of these years - I suppose like a catchy musical hook. And this tune I wrote, I remember, had one too .. Something in my eye my darling children - Til There Was You. Happy Sunday all. Happy perspective. ~ Charmaine Jones
