25.01.2022 Happy Campers at Charterhouse Partnership - Technology - Sam Whitmore, Development & Testing Consultant

23.01.2022 The Winter Olympics will be kicking off in a few days. Ten Network Holdings has signed $30m sponsorship and advertising revenue for its coverage. Corporate sponsorship deals include Samsung, Pharmacare Laboratories, Fiat Chryslers Jeep brand, Maccas, Optus and Maurice Blackburn (a law firm), worth $20m with the remaining $10m on Ten Network's advertisements. Are there any companies you're surprised aren't listed above?

23.01.2022 M&A’s (mergers & acquisitions) are a hot topic for 2014. The number of M&A's is expected to rise by 10-17% this year! This is very welcome news to the Investment Banks who will be keen to assist. We're in discussions with IT, Change and Service Delivery Managers about the surge of IT upgrades, migrations and integrations they're expecting this year.

23.01.2022 'When T+3 becomes T+2...' Stockbroking markets are pushing to condense the time it takes to settle trades to two days (rather than 3 days) to better align Australia with HK and Germany markets. In the business, this is referred to as ‘T+2' We'll be keeping close with management in traders to discuss how much Business Change, and Tech improvements will be needed to adjust the settlement process from the back-end and user perspective.

22.01.2022 NSW State Super Assets will combine management with NSW Treasury Corp and one other state body to create a $65bn funds powerhouse. The plan is that this will enhance the government ability to managed its assets and liabilities, and help to cut costs. Each board will continue to drive their own investment strategies and risk profiles but the asset management arrangements will be harmonised (and one of the benefits will hopefully include attracting high quality investment professionals). Are there other government departments that you think could benefit from a similar arrangement?

21.01.2022 Australian companies looking to float this year will face a tougher equities market compared to last year. In H2 2013, over 70 companies were listed on the ASX during H2 2013 (including Veda, OzForEx, Nine Entertainment Co).

19.01.2022 New year, new house... Fixed Rate Mortgages are at their lowest rates in 20 years. As such, the likes of ING Direct, Suncorp & ME bank etc are targeting borrowers wanting to maximise their returns. As these financial companies gain market share over the big 4 banks, we can speculate that a proportion of the extra revenue will go into IT projects budgets for them to push ahead of the curve. Watch this space...

16.01.2022 Australia’s biggest 98 companies have $71.1bn in cash reserves and are being urged to spend on acquisitions to keep their shareholders happy. We're interested to see how much spend will be allocated towards technology improvements. Big banks aside, some of the top 15 companies are listed below: BHP billiton, Rio Tinto, ASX, Telstra, Suncorp, Coca Cola Amatil & Wesfarmers.

12.01.2022 The latest acronym to 'hit' the board rooms is the need for a good SMAC! Social, mobile, analytical and cloud are 4 key drivers to facilitate the success of the business in 2014. NAB have taken this idea head on by teaming up with social media start up Tiger Pistol. NAB will be offering their small business customers free access to a service that manages their facebook marketing strategy for 3 months with insights into how, when and what to post to boost e-traffic and revenue.... Which other businesses do you think do this well already?

11.01.2022 The rising price of the Aussie dollar is taking it's toll on profits, resulting in businesses from all industries exiting the market, relocating overseas or restructuring. *Toyota have announced they're ceasing manufacturing by 2017 - a big hit to the Japanese corporate presence in Australia as 50,000 direct jobs are to be affected. * Coffey International are moving out of their preminum CBD offices and have removed 170 jobs - 30 alone in the project management space *Schweppes have had to put up shelf prices to pass on some of their rising costs. Interestingly last year, their competitor CCA took the hit as they were unable to pass on rising costs, which resulted in lost market share. Time will tell if Schweppes price increase helps CCA regain their share again...
