19.01.2022 STORY POSTS IN LISSNER PARK. Visit Charters Towers, North Queensland. Download a QR Code App from the App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android). Open the App, point it at the code on the posts as though you are taking a photo and it will open up the story on the post. Do this at each post. Loads of info at each post! Each one will then be able to be saved to your smartphone or iPad for future reference. Call us at the Visitor Centre if you need any help and we’ll be happy to advise. Take a hat and water - a great morning or afternoon’s activity and story telling. Hope you enjoy! Let us know what you think.

16.01.2022 CHARTERS TOWERS HISTORICAL PHOTO CLUB will be in Ravenswood over the 150 Celebrations. Please let me know if you have WW1 soldier photos I can copy for our End of WW1 Commemorations in November in Charters Towers. Thanks Joanne Klein. We're camping at the showgrounds but will be all over town during the day.

05.01.2022 Studio portrait of Michael Lyddiard. This is one in a series of photographs titled "Walking under the stars" by Peter Brew-Bevan. The series highlights a group ...of modern veterans, both men and women who, despite wounds, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other challenges, have become role models. Whether physically or psychologically wounded (or, in most instances, both), they have overcome numerous obstacles, and through their work and achievements are a source of hope and inspiration for the veteran community and the wider public. Michael Lyddiard As a bomb disposal technician in Afghanistan, Sergeant Michael Lyddiard was severely wounded in 2007 when an improvised explosive device he was attempting to render safe detonated in front of his face. Lyddiard lost his right eye, lower right arm, and two fingers and thumb on his left hand. His face was shattered, his hearing was damaged, and he only regained partial sight in his left eye months later. Graduating from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Lyddiard now helps others with their injuries. He competes in triathlons, adventurethons, and open-water swimming races. He was the Queensland state finalist for the 2017 Australian of the Year Award, and represented Australia at the 2017 Invictus Games. He plans to compete again in the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney.
