Throughout highschool I started to feel the pressures of "you need a good job out of school or be going to uni to get a better job that will financially support you" So instead of pursuing performance arts I perused the behind the scenes stuff, audio engineering, lighting etc. Last year I was in a video editing jo...b that just felt average every day and I started to wonder. So I applied to a Music theatre school and I got in! A year and a half into it and I just wonder where I'd be now if I had of stuck to my guns when I was younger. Maybe I'd already be in some bigger productions? Life is full of what ifs. I'm a firm believer that things happen when they need to happen, and I'm happy to be where I am now! Since arriving to Australia she has been cast in several short films, was awarded a "Publics Choice" mention at the 48hs short film festival and created/co-produced/starred in a web-series. She has performed in professional and community theatre for more years than she cares to remember; across Australia and in Ireland. Donna is also a Drama, English and History teacher who, like Sally, also once ran her own small Drama School. She has had her plays performed at the Short and Sweet Festival and in La Mamas ...Explorations season. Last year Donna retired from teaching to study a Masters of Screenwriting at VCA. Recently Donna retired from retirement to take up part-time teaching and acting once again. 19.01.2022 @nicholaspolitis says Many moons ago me and this ballerina (from the Aus Ballet) were both performing in a stylised piece which included dancing, acting, physical theatre etc. for St.Martins theatre. Our energies were really connecting we didnt talk all that much we both knew the attraction was there...anyway after a performance I walked her home we made love not sex... then she disappeared to the states and stayed. 25 years later we found each other again she had survived ...breast cancer and still lived in the states. We fell in love truly deeply madly over the phone, using Skype. I had been divorced several years prior and had a teenage son who is very close with me. She wanted me to go live with her there and I said no, I cant leave my son...so I sabotaged the relationship and ended one of the greatest loves of my life. You know to sit and do nothing is one of the hardest exercises you can give an actor coz eventually most end up doing somethig. But thats not the case because the answer lies within that. Being a hard work & having high expectations comes with its regrets; and the ones I feel stem from a personal level as an artist. Ive had many times where Ive reacted in ways that were disappointing, even if my intentions were good, because they ultimately didnt h...elp achieve a better outcome. Its all the same. Someone pulls out of a commitment, someone doesnt know their lines, a permit or song license doesnt get approved etc etc. The list goes on. But do you start counting your wounds? Because thats not a healthy character trait to have as an artist. Its not enough to be satisfied with your productive output, but you also have to be a good person. That requires you being the master of your own emotions, handling things with grace & strength, being a bigger man in the face of negative emotions. That doesnt come easy. It takes a long time and Im getting there... We all are What can come easy is resentment, anger, injustice when you work 70+ hrs a week as an artist with a job, constant rejection, debts, bills, things not going so well - yet thats a given for anyone, you have to own those responsibilities if youve chosen this path for yourself. All in all, these emotional failings are another part of the challenge of living as a person creating art. We either face the hard questions and constantly evolve in a better version of ourselves - or we regret what we could have been.
