25.01.2022 Homelessness and housing affordability are big issues for our country. This show gives people a chance to see what it is like to suddenly find yourself on the streets with no money and nowhere safe to sleep. If you have missed the first two episodes you can catch up by going to SBSs website.
25.01.2022 Looking for helpers for our garden working bee. If you can spare some time on the 10th please come along and help out. Maple Street Co-op garden, Bicentenary Lane, Maleny. Getting the garden ready for our turning of the sod event on Friday 23 August and placement of CHASMs Little House in the Garden later in the year.
24.01.2022 I would like to say a huge thank you to the Maleny branch of the Country Womens Association who are donating $500.00 to CHASM to install blinds and curtains in the cabin - thank you Cynthia and the rest of your group for your support. And a huge thank you to Maleny Hired Hands who are donating their time to collect some donated furniture for us and deliver it to the cabin - thank you Mark for supporting our cause. This assistance from both organisations is greatly appreciated!
23.01.2022 We need to increase the supply of affordable rental housing!! Unaffordable housing is contributing to locking people into poverty. This report found that more than 1 in 8 people (13.6%) lived below the poverty line after housing costs were taken into account!! This is a disgrace in a wealthy nation like ours! Do you want to be part of the solution? One way you can help is by investing in your own back yard by installing a secondary dwelling on your property and leasing it at an affordable rent. Everyone deserves access to safe, secure affordable housing!

21.01.2022 With the 'working bee' in the garden behind the Maple St Co-op scheduled for Aug 10 (9am-noon with snacks provided), I got the wonderful Kel Harding to come in with his dingo and make a start - look what he's done! Sorry I don't have any 'before' shots - it was a MOUNTAIN of weeds!

18.01.2022 At long last the installation work for our small house is nearing completion and it is time to say a big thank you to several local supporters. Firstly, thank you to CM & JA Whitehouse Foundation for giving us a grant to cover the cost of connecting power, water and sewerage services to the cabin, we couldnt have finished this work without your support! Thank you Michael Fallon and the rest of your team. Secondly, thank you to the Maleny Country Womens Association who are s...ponsoring the costs of blinds for the cabin. Thank you to Cynthia Daniels and the rest of her team for your donation. And last but definitely not least, thank you to Maleny Motor Trimmers who are supplying the blinds for the cabin and doing the installation as a donation. Thank you to Brian and Joy Watson for your donation. The CHASM Small House Project is a demonstration project highlighting the need for more affordable rental housing in Maleny. The project is also encouraging the use of small houses as secondary dwellings to go towards addressing the shortfall of affordable rental accommodation. This project wouldnt have been possible without the support of many locals who donated money, bought raffle tickets, provided discounted rates for work being undertaken, supported fundraising events and so much more. So I also want to say a big thank you to you, the wonderful people of Maleny, who made it possible to deliver this project to our community, we couldnt have done it without your support. Thank you!!

13.01.2022 Again we want to say a big thank you to generous supporters whose help has been vital to our project. Firstly to Maleny Quota for your donation of $500 - thank you so much Val France and the rest of your group!! Secondly a joint thank you to Maleny branch of the CWA and to Maleny Motor Trimmers for your joint donation of blinds and fitting costs - the blinds have now been installed and they look great!! See attached pics. ... Projects like ours are only possible because Maleny is such a generous community!!

10.01.2022 CHASM Housing in the news Our turning of the sod event is on at 9am this Friday 23rd August on site in Bicentenary Lane, Maleny.
08.01.2022 Sorry for not posting for a while but the last several months have been very busy getting things done behind the scenes! You may be wondering why our little house is still looking like a building site? It is because we have been waiting, for what feels like forever, to get services (power, water and sewerage) connected to the site. The water was done late last year and finally this month we have received notification that we can get the power and sewerage connected - some whe...els move very slowly! So hopefully it wont take too much longer before those connections have been completed and we can seek a tenant for our little house. The exciting news is that our little house in the garden will be open for inspection from 10am - 2pm on Saturday 22 February and Saturday 29th February and we would love you all to come and have a look through it! If you have been curious to see what it looks like on the inside this is your chance to find out! We hope to see all our friends, followers and project supporters there.

08.01.2022 After several years of hard work our dream of placing a little house in the co-ops garden is finally coming to fruition. The house has been constructed off-site and will be delivered and installed this Friday - yay!! Thank you to everyone who has helped us achieve this key milestone!

02.01.2022 So this happened today...our little house in the garden has arrived and is now being installed on its foundations by the wonderful Ross Meneely. It was very exciting watching it being lifted into place by the crane!! Ross is handing the keys over the Margaret from CHASM Housing
01.01.2022 This week is Homelessness Week and CHASM will be fundraising in front of the Maleny IGA from Monday 5/8 to Friday 9/8 from 11am - 2pm. All money raised will be donated to the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre for their homelessness fund which is used to buy short term emergency accommodation for homeless people. Please come and see us and support our fundraising drive.
01.01.2022 The Small House Project is finally materialising in the Maple Street Community Garden! Congratulations Maleny and the CHASM team, who are generously auspiced by the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre. Special acknowledgement goes to Marg McKenzie and Frances Harper for their sheer determination to keep on going! We began the project in 2015 following MNC's Housing Conversations attended by over 100 concerned locals about the cost of housing affordability. Marg and I (Julia Peddie) continued the conversation, and while I stepped back last year due to ill health, I am thrilled to see the project come to fruition. The Small House will be open for inspection in the near future and request for suitable applicants to apply will be announced.
