23.01.2022 According to Kathryn Tonges, a parenting and personal development instructor and coach at the National Trainer for Effectiveness Training Institute of Australia "storytelling strengthens brain development. Without text and pictures, storytelling teaches children how to listen deeply, visualize characters and remember a sequence of events". Additionally storytelling allows children to develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities "audience members (children) are actively involved in the process... storytelling becomes a shared experience. Thus it brings a sense of intimacy and community. An extraordinary connection is made between the teller and the listener." - Children Tell Stories- Teaching and Using Storytelling in the Classroom.

20.01.2022 We have had a few lessons on both snails and silkworms. DID YOU KNOW? Silkworms are tiny worms that spin their own silk cocoons. The scientific name for silkworms is Bombyx mori, which means silkworm of the mulberry tree. They have been raised to produce fabric for thousands of years and can no longer be found in the wild.... DID YOU KNOW? Snails can have lungs or gills depending on the species and their habitat. Some marine snails actually can have lungs and some land based snails can have gills. Most snail species have a ribbon-like tongue called a radula that contains thousands of microscopic teeth. The radula works like a file, ripping food up into tiny pieces. The majority of snails are herbivores eating vegetation such as leaves, stems and flowers, some larger species and marine based species can be predatory omnivores or even carnivores.

09.01.2022 Since the spaces we create communicate emotional as well as physical messages to children, we wanted to create a new space that would spark conversation and interaction among children and staff. After consultation we decided on creating a mural. The theme? The ever-so-popular theme of space! We have been happy to see our children's reaction to the mural so far. "Oh it's beautiful" many of our children have said. We are so happy to hear it! Though still not entirely finished, it has sparked a lot of conversation about Space and Exploration...
