25.01.2022 We've been moving house, an exhausting time and although Michael has also been making a large pot, it hasn't been possible to open the gallery in the last week except for short periods. The large pot is almost dry enough to trim now and he will do that today. The gallery will be open on Saturday I think. Lessons will begin again on 30th January. I hope all of our supporters have been enjoying the new year.

23.01.2022 Reminder that classes resume this Saturday. Looking forward to seeing you again and to meeting the new aspiring potters. If you are new, please bring an apron, a towel and wear old clothes as potting is very messy!

22.01.2022 Mixed results from the firing opened yesterday, Saturday. Some very attractive pots but an explosion during firing left some pots damaged with pieces of other pots stuck to them. Also some damage to the kiln which must be repaired before it is fired again.

18.01.2022 Saturday morning was mostly spent sitting in the sun out the back at the gallery. With Bridget's help Michael put on a bisque firing - there were plenty of very dry pieces waiting. I hope to re-open the gallery in two weeks time.

17.01.2022 The kiln cool enough to open and a pleasing result.

17.01.2022 The bisque firing of basins is underway despite a problem with electrics yesterday. Michael will be checking on it this morning and we hope all is going well.

16.01.2022 The pictures tell the next stage4 of this big pot's story.

15.01.2022 More work has been done on the big pot. I will see it today but Michael has taken photos for me to share. His two helpmates have been there for two days and the roping was completed and amazingly the clay has now gone on! Here are the pictures.

14.01.2022 11.30 and I've just brought Michael home. It is wonderful to have him back. Hip Hurray.

13.01.2022 A busy weekend making basins, helping the students and building a gas kiln which has been under construction for some years. Perhaps it will be finished in a few weeks. Warmer days has meant the clay is drying much faster and Michael expects to bisque fire several basins next weekend. The outdoor area is busy and interesting and not all work is with clay. Here Michael is preparing some bricks for the gas kiln.

11.01.2022 Some lovely pots but the lighting isn't the best.

11.01.2022 The gallery will actually be opened today thanks to Sophie, one of Michael's friends who is also a potter. I'm planning to be there on Friday and Saturday. Social distancing will apply of course. Michael took a photo of the students pots that were bisqued last week. I can't get quite all the pots into the picture but I'm sure you'll agree they look good.

10.01.2022 This week Michael concentrated on making basins as he has orders for about 8. They are not all thrown yet so It will be about 5 weeks before they are ready. The warmer spring weather will help the basins to dry. He also glazed and fired a big pot that has been waiting for many months for its turn in the kiln.

10.01.2022 Great sunny weather the last few days and lots of people travelling and popping into the gallery. Michael's studio busy with the Saturday morning class. A lot of interest in the big pot made as a collaborate effort by several friends. Now Michael has finished the top and it's drying. When bisqued it will stand just over a metre tall. It was made using template and rope method.

09.01.2022 The weekend was busy, busy and Bridget caught some great action shots. Thanks Bridget. Friends gathered to help Michael glaze a big pot and first it had to be wheeled outside then taken off the trolley. Luckily these friends are strong.

08.01.2022 Arts North West is an important place to connect with all kinds of creativity in our region.

08.01.2022 The basins all came out well. Next firing will be basins too to fill orders.

07.01.2022 Rather a cold weekend but the fires were cheerful and enabled the students to enjoy making mugs on Saturday.

07.01.2022 Happy New Year to all. The bisque firing is still cooling but the kiln will be cool enough by Sunday to open. Michael has taken all the pots off the table to enjoy some snooker games in the break.

07.01.2022 I forgot to add the photo! He also opened the small kiln which has been bisqued and is waiting to be unpacked.

07.01.2022 The latest firing was of red basins to fill orders and we are happy with the results. There are also some mugs and a big dish for a bird bath, but only the basins are red. As we are moving house this coming week, gallery hours are not regular. Saturday classes with Michael will resume on 30th January.

06.01.2022 I haven't managed to get to Uralla for weeks but hope to get there just to see everything soon. Michael is a little stronger each day but has to be in isolation for a month as his immune system is so low. I'm giving him all messages and they brighten his day. Thanks so much to everyone. .

05.01.2022 It was so cold yesterday and lovely to see snow falling. It had gone by the time we went to Uralla. Michael felt he was well enough to make a trip there just to see the big pot he'd finished the evening before he got ill. He was impressed with everything so clean - our wonderful friends Chris and Angus had mopped the whole gallery and got the pot inside. Michael had left it wrapped in a dooner outside!

05.01.2022 Time to pull the rope out of the pot and Bridget helps by winding the rope onto a wheel. It won't all be removed today as the base of the pot isn't dry enough yet.

04.01.2022 On Sunday Michael was able to have his pottery students again, but the last couple of weeks they have worked alone because of his marking commitments. There is still a week of marking to be done but after that there will be a rush to make pots in time for Christmas.

04.01.2022 The weather was bitter at the weekend but the glazing proceeded and on Monday the kiln was packed. Today the firing will commence and at the weekend we will see the results.

03.01.2022 Freezing weather on Saturday with flurries of snow and sleet, but the fire made potting possible. As there are lots of pots bisqued, everyone was keen to get glazing underway.

03.01.2022 The gallery was open at the weekend and it was great to see people here again including travelers taking in the sunshine in Uralla. We'll be open usual hours from now on. Some extra days Sophie, a sculptor, is opening for us. It just depends on how busy she is at her home.

03.01.2022 This shows that the lid is now made and a base for the pot to stand on. Plastic still needed while it is drying. A friend called in to see the pot too.

03.01.2022 Only two visitors a day at hospital but Michael doing well now. When he gets home he'll love to see some friends. He may be home on Friday not sure till then. He has his phone now so you can ring him. Recovery will take many weeks but he's begun. Thanks to all who have sent messages, they have helped us all.

02.01.2022 A busy day yesterday as people have started traveling again. Everyone coming into the gallery used the sanitizer and social distancing. Two students were glad to be working on projects in the studio. It was a very cold day but the fires were alight both in the shop and in the studio so we kept warm.

02.01.2022 Disappointing result when the kiln was opened yesterday to see the bisque firing of a big pot. There is a damaged area at the front. Michael is away now for a week so hasn't decided what to do. He may go ahead and glaze it, but there is no way to fix the section that came off. There was very little else in the kiln and all the other things look good.

01.01.2022 Another cold weekend with not many visitors to Uralla. During the week Michael was lucky enough to have Ken visit from Tenterfield bringing the new template pieces for a large pot. Here it is with rope work begun. This picture will help people to understand how the big pot pictured earlier, was made. The template and rope are removed after the clay is used to make the pot. It will be some time before the clay goes onto the rope.
