12.01.2022 New trailer. Tonight. #notimetodie

12.01.2022 Thank you to everyone that came to Monday nights #PalaceEncore screening of Michael Manns masterpiece HEAT at #Palace Chauvel. It is one of our all-time favourite films. What we love most is that Mann was inspired/heavily influenced by master filmmaker, Jean-Pierre Melville. A sprawling crime saga that turned LA, cold and metallic, mirroring the blue-toned cinematography of Melvilles landscapes in Le Cercle Rouge and Un Flic (Alain Delons gorgeous blue eyes adds to M...elvilles palette). Manns own blueprint for HEAT was his earlier (TV Pilot/stand alone) film L.A. Takedown. We will state that HEATs shootout scene is the greatest in the history of cinema.Cast received training from former SAS operatives. Mann crafted the scene with such precision and authenticity that it has been used as a training reference for the US miltary. Equally as visually impressive is the beautifully choreographed 30-minute near-silent heist scene in Le Cercle Rouge! We recommend watching the following six films (three Melville crime sagas paired with three contemporary films) to show Melvilles influence across the decades. 1. Le Deuxieme Souffle (1966) 2. Le Cercle Rouge (1970) 3. Un Flic (1972) 4. Heat (1995) 5. The Dark Knight (2008), inspired by HEAT 6. A Better Tomorrow (1986) Bonus: our personal favourite Melville film is LE SAMOURA. If you love Le Samoura as much as we do, we recommend these six films to watch also! 1. The Killer (1989) 2. Thief (1981) 3. Drive (2011) 4. Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) 5. A Bittersweet Life (2005) 6. Millers Crossing (1990) [Melvilles Le Doulos, 1962 is also a big influence] #michaelmann #jeanpierremelville #valkilmer #robertdeneiro #alpacino #wesstudi #dannytrejo #edwardbunker #alaindelon #catherinedeneuve #yvesmontand #blue #cinematography #linoventura #gianmariavolonte #bourvil #tedlevine #jonvoight #existentialcinema #frenchnewwave #frenchcinema #crimegenre #filmnoir #neonoir #heist #shootout

10.01.2022 20th anniversary screening of Ang Lees masterpiece CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON will be showing at #PalaceChauvel this Monday night! We love Yo-Yo Mas enchanting score, and we absolutely idolise Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh - two of the greatest internationally renowned actors who were at the peak of Hong Kong cinema in the 80s and 90s. We are not joking, we love Chow Yun-fat! During our teenage years he was our favourite actor. His collaborations with master director J...ohn Woo are our favourites. He made the transition to Hollywood like many other Hong Kong film legends in the 90s. He debuted in Antoine Fuquas cult classic THE REPLACEMENT KILLERS (with a now legendary cast of Mira Sorvino, Jrgen Prochnow, Michael Rooker, Danny Trejo, Til Schweiger and Kenneth Tsang.) His iconic collaborations with John Woo have been extremely influential and imitated throughout contemporary cinema. Apart from CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, here are our favourite Chow Yun-fat movies: 1. A BETTER TOMORROW 2. THE KILLER (John Woos remake of Le Samourai) 3. HARD-BOILED 4. CITY ON FIRE (Ringo Lams masterpiece and Tarantinos inspiration for Reservoir Dogs) 5. GOD OF GAMBLERS 6. A BETTER TOMORROW II 7. FULL CONTACT 8. PRISON ON FIRE 9. ALL ABOUT AH LONG 10. ONCE A THIEF 11. AN AUTUMNS TALE 12. RICH AND FAMOUS & TRAGIC HERO Tickets for CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON available here: https://bit.ly/2Qw8j7A #chowyunfat #michelleyeoh #anglee #yoyoma #johnwoo #ringolam #tonyleung #PalaceEncore #hongkongfilm #dannylee #zhangziyi #chengpeipei #throwbackcinema #hongkonglegends
