17.01.2022 Today I again supported another SCAM phone victim. As depressing as it was, I spent over an hour, removing all remote access from her computer, removing any keyboard loggers and then explaining that all the saved passwords have now been compromised. All passwords were displayed via "Control Panel", including the web link, login or account information and PASSWORD. Other passwords and account information were displayed in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Whilst she didn't be...lieve her passwords had been saved, there were over 20 website links, account login and passwords saved, all now visible. Once all the accounts were recorded, all were removed from the computer. Again I'm asking for support in advising, lecturing, teaching, warning or any other words that will prevent anyone from accepting a phone call from a SCAMMER, allowing unknown persons from gaining access to their computer, stealing passwords, personal information, identity and possibly money. Please be vigilant in protecting family and friends from SCAMMERS. Remember, Microsoft, Telstra, ATO nor any other organisation WILL NOT call you to tell you there is a problem with your computer or router, especially wanting to remote into your computer. HANG UP. 14.01.2022 YET ANOTHER SCAM - BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER Two days ago I was confronted with another phone call, Ive been scammed. Following the normal procedure of financial protection advice, I attended the client site to find they had been locked out of their computer by an old password program called Syskey Without getting into the ramifications of this password lockout from your computer, the other factor that had been implemented to the SCAM was ALL the clients data was missing.... The scammers had taken an image of the clients computer, deleted ALL their data and was then waiting to be paid to restore that removed data. Unfortunately the client had no backups, didnt part with any money & lost all their personal files/data from the computer. The computer was replaced, no data recovered either, irrespective of low level data recovery, Again, PLEASE BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER DATA TO EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Yes, Im YELLING. Protect your information, backup to external hard drives. Most of all, never let anyone remote into your computer, unless you know them personally. BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP

08.01.2022 GUMTREE PAYPAL AND EBAY SCAM For anyone using Gumtre or EBAY, beware of SCAMMERS posing as potential buyers. When posting goods For Sale on EBAY or PayPal, ensure you have the money in your hand or bank account, as well as being verified by yourself by accessing your account direct before releasing the item. Scammers will try to convince you via emails they have paid for the item, they will send correspondence advising the funds are being held by PayPal until the item has b...een received. Neither PayPal or EBAY will reimburse you for these scams. I was alerted to this scam by a mother whose son posted a laptop for sale, was convinced the payment was genuine and posted the laptop. Unfortunately there was no money in his account and no recovery action available through PayPal. BEWARE OF SCAMMERS Examples of SCAMMERS correspondence are included. See more

08.01.2022 PASSWORDS & WHERE NOT TO SAVE THEM. Many people find remembering passwords a challenge, hence wanting save them on your computer under Edge? Internet Explorer, Firefox & Google Chrome. Passwords are ever increasingly requiring to be eight characters, containing Upper & Lower Case letters, a number and a symbol.... To assist in creating passwords and remembering them, I am offering a couple of simple steps & methods. Firstly, consider two words, proper nouns are best. With most vowels they can be converted to a number or symbol. Eg: a=@, e=3, i=1 or !, o=O or 0'n. Various constants can be changed too. Eg: l=| (pipe key), s=$ or 5. Obviously there are many others you can substitute but you need to remember what you substitute with. One advantage of a proper noun is the fist letter is alway a Capital letter. With two words, you can separate them with a symbol such as # symbol. An example of substitution letter, number and symbol password is as follows. Peter Johnston - P3t3rJ0hn$t0n Fishing - F!5h!ng Swimming - Sw!mm!ng Double Bay - D0ub|3#B@y Once you have remembered substitute letters, numbers & symbols, creating & remembering passwords becomes a little easier. Most important, even when using the examples above, dont use your account name or close relationships persons names as a password. This can be used to access your account, even with the different permutations available. As previously mentioned in other messages, change your password regularly & dont have them saved in Windows . Please note, the above suggestions & recommendations are not the only method of creating passwords, but some ideas for securing & remembering passwords without having to save them on your computer.

03.01.2022 PHONE SCAMS UPDATE Yet another victim contacted me last week to advise he was scammed $12,000 from his account. They called him, representing themselves as Telstra, advising him of issues with internet, then computer hacking. Without realising the scam, they had accessed his computer, found information, extracted $12K from his account, attempted to access other areas of which he realised they were scamming him. He contacted his banks advising them of the scam. Without publi...shing the bank names, there are some banks that have high security on Internet transfers, others that have minimal security. It is your responsibility to ensure your funds are protected from fraud, such as phone scams. One way of securing your funds is to have all transfers authorised by SMS, this will ensure you are aware of money being sent from your account. Some banks have this facility, if they do, then I highly recommend you activate it. Where your bank does not have that, or similar facility, ask them if they are going to or consider other options to protect your funds. As a footnote to the scam, they perpetrators had installed software that left him vulnerable to their access whilst his computer was connected to the Internet. This software was not visible but detected in installed programs. Once removed, his computer was clear of further access. See more

02.01.2022 WARNING ON EMAIL SCAMS - There has been an increasing number of emails advising persons their password has been compromised and their internet activity will be published to everyone in their contact list, if you do not pay them in Bitcoin. This is a SCAM and you must not give them anything. To explain the email password issue is simple. Some time in the past you had used this password on a website. That website had been compromised and your details extracted. If you have...n't changed your password for some time then this will be your current password too. To avoid passwords being compromised, change them regularly and incorporate the following: Upper-case, lower-case, numbers and symbols. If you would like some advice or support on this issue, please call me on 0419696577 or email at [email protected]. See more
