25.01.2022 Happy Friday! Please ensure you check your inbox for an email regarding our services for Term 4.

25.01.2022 We process visual information better than any other type of information. Remindables are colourful and highly visual to help recall and memory. .... . . #remindables #visual #visuallearner #processing See more

25.01.2022 And just like that, we are back to Telehealth while restrictions are in place and as always we continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis! Our team at Cheeky Monkey continue to rise to the occasion every step of the way and I am so grateful for their hard work and support. We hope you all stay safe and well in this challenging time. ~Dannii

25.01.2022 We hope all everyone is safe after the storm last night. Please be aware of the concern with drinking water in outer eastern suburbs. https://www.3aw.com.au/do-not-drink-contaminated-water-war/

25.01.2022 Supporting our local Japanese restaurant yesterday with some take away Bento Boxes for lunch as we prepare for Term 3! Delicious! We all love our school holiday lunches and coffees at Cheeky Monkey.

24.01.2022 Our friends at Learn to Eat. Love to Eat have some great online workshops about Fussy Eating. We know there are many Cheeky Monkeys who have restricted diets and these workshops will provide some great tips and strategies to assist with this.

24.01.2022 We love this idea and know many Cheeky Monkeys will use these to provide information to their teacher for next year. Thanks Remindables

23.01.2022 Thanks for this post Lauren and Kate!

23.01.2022 Any other Cheeky Monkeys excited to have playgrounds back today??? We also love having playgrounds open because there are so many great language opportunities. Children often need to request your help to reach things like climbing frames, to be pushed higher on the swing or to get down if they are stuck on something. Modeling the language that you want them to use provides the opportunity for them to hear what to say and in some instances they may copy. Eg. push, more pushing, help me, lift me up, stop, go.

23.01.2022 It seems so long ago that we were able to hold our professional development sessions in the same space! In the meantime, we are joining forces once again with Step by Step Psychology and Kid Link Occupational Therapy to offer our families a live webinar on Preparing for School in 2021. We know this year has been disruptive so this live webinar will share some tips and tricks to help make things a little easier. Booking link below. https://www.trybooking.com/BLJCM

23.01.2022 We love everything that SJI Autism & Carer Support have to offer and this is no exception! We would strongly recommend this to anyone looking at starting school next year! Sonia is amazing and the information will be invaluable! And it's FREE and it's online! BONUS!!

22.01.2022 At Cheeky Monkey Speech we use 'play' in our sessions (both in the clinic and online). It is such an important skill and a great way for developing language. This quote sums it up nicely - Happy Playing!

21.01.2022 Delicious homemade pizza lunch to help us get through the staff meeting!

20.01.2022 We know that children sometimes find it easier to point, grunt or reach for items they want or need. We also know how valuable it can be to offer them choices. Choices not only gives them the control, it provides them with a language model to copy and then use. Often it's hard to fit in therapy activities into the chaos of everyday life, but offering choices can happening throughout the day. Here are some examples that can be incorporated into your day. Do you want the blue... bowl or red bowl? Do you want the Spot book or Maisy book? Would you like the spotty socks or stripy socks? Would you like the red car or pink bus? Even if a child points to their choice, you can still follow up with a great language model by saying "Oh you want the pink bus" See more

20.01.2022 The Cheeky Monkey team enjoyed our Chai lattes from Two Brothers Mitcham yesterday - they certainly kept us going during our staff meeting. We are busy putting everything in place ready for Term 3 and can't wait to see you all very soon!

10.01.2022 Great post by our wonderful friends Lauren and Kate at Remindables.

10.01.2022 UPDATE: The NDIA have updated the NDIS website this afternoon. There is new info pack for Victorian families with school aged children. It gives examples and ca...se studies of different ways families can use their funds to support their kids while schools and services are closed. And while it is aimed at families and children lots of the info is relevant for NDIS participants of any age. You can find it here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/information-packs The Prime Minister gave a press conference yesterday where he mentioned NDIS participants. The PM said Victorian families with children with disability could use their NDIS funds to help manage during lockdown, including having more support in the home. We know it's just not kids and families who need extra support and flexibility from the NDIS at this time. We've been waiting to see if the the NDIS website was updated overnight but so far - no dice. We will bring any changes to you as soon as they happen. But in the meantime ... We are constantly updating our website with all the latest info for Victorians. You can find it here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/new-coronavirus-rules/ And don't forget the good folks at IDEAS Disability Information have tons of info and resources all in the one spot - https://www.ideas.org.au//faq-covid-19-from-people-with-a- Ideas are also the folks behind the Disability Information Helpine. Just call 1800 643 787. They can answer questions, chase down more information and get you where you need to go. The line is open Mon - Fri 8am - 8pm. (Image description: A torn out bit of paper with a part of the transcript of the Prime Minister's press conference yesterday. The text reads: "I also can confirm that families will be able to use their NDIS plans flexibly to support access workers in their homes, particularly in instances where children with a disability can no longer attend education or other day programs. Families should discuss their needs with their provider or contact the NDIA to seek assistance. What this means is if a family normally had a child attend a day program or special school and those facilities are not open, the family can use their existing plans flexibly to get disability support workers into their home to assist. Disability support workers are considered essential workers in Victoria." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison, August 6 2020 )

09.01.2022 Love this image of some Cheeky Monkeys playing 'schools' - complete with social distancing. We know children learn through imitation and observation so being 'safe at home' allows us to create lots of opportunities for this. http://www.hanen.org//Imitation-with-Children-on-the-Autis

08.01.2022 What a lovely birthday surprise from the Cheeky Monkey team to celebrate my birthday while in lockdown. So grateful to have such an amazing team supporting each other in this challenging time. ~Dannii

02.01.2022 Our gorgeous Cheeky Monkeys (and families) have done a great job heading back online for their speech therapy sessions this week. Until the current COVID situation settles, we will continue online services and hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this challenging time. For those enrolled in group sessions, we will contact you this week with further information. And for those engaging in remote schooling with your Cheeky Monkey - GOOD LUCK!!
