24.01.2022 Veg Out St Kilda Farmers' Market - this Saturday... * We are at our alternative winter site this month - 150 metres across the oval on Blessington Street * Lots... happening on the food front. Tolmie Gold Saffron grow and handpick their A-grade saffron in the Victorian alpine high country, and will be bringing their harvest. Their gorgeous saffron flowers are pictured. Ask them how to use saffron or for their delicious saffron-infused recipes. JoJo's Greens are bringing their microgreens, which are young seedlings - sunflower, pea shoots, broccoli, lemon balm, mustard, radish and kale - harvested within 14 days of germination. Chef’s Fine Food will have their tasty scallop pies and their slow cooked chunky beef and free range chicken pies. Phillippa's will have new ciabatta veronese, ginger crunch, amaretti biscuits and wholemeal sourdough, among others. At Bellellen, Blakey is currently smoking the last of the garlic, plus they’ll have some beautiful asian greens, salad mix, tomatillo jalapeno salsa, grumpy granny's garlic sauce, pickled garlic, smoked salts, basil, pine nut pesto, dried herbs and chilli. John from Yendon Gourmet Tomatoes will be at the market for the first time this Saturday. Come and try some of his lovely hydroponically grown tomatoes (pictured) - he'll have hydro toms, cherry toms (very sweet) and basil (big). Chef's Fine Food will have their yummy scallop & seafood mornay pies and come for a taste of their award winning pate. Hazeldean Forest Farm will be there with loads of their best eating apples - sturmer pippin, fuji and jonagold store well, so stock up for summer - and they’ll also do special spring prices on cider, including bawbaw champagne for $15 a bottle. And with honey in the news it's worth highlighting our honey provider. Walkabout Apiaries is the real deal - and is family run, from bee to bottle.
