25.01.2022 BE THE CHANGE - The Australian Olympic Change-Maker Program seeks to identify and bring together young leaders in sport who are making a difference in their school or local community. Nominations are open to Year 10, 11 and 12 CGHS students who demonstrate leadership and/or are driving change. This can take on many forms from minor to major, and from the ordinary to the amazing. Whether leading teams, coaching juniors, supporting seniors, making a difference at a sports club, a national cause or effecting change on the world stage. Students interested in being involved in the Olympic Change-Maker Program need to create a one-minute video and submit it on the CGHS Olympic Change-Maker Google Classroom. Check Sentral or the Sports Noticeboard for how to join or visit Miss Marangon in the PE staffroom.

14.01.2022 The Year 10 Aboriginal Studies class was lucky to have a visit today from Abhi Aiyer (CGHS class of 2015). Abhi has been applying her knowledge from her HSC Aboriginal Studies course in her Honours degree, working with Aboriginal communities and rangers in the Kimberly (WA), as indigenous and western knowledge systems come together to protect freshwater crocs from cane toads. She also had some great words of wisdom for the class as they start to consider their HSC major projects. Thanks Abhi! Its always wonderful for the students to tap into the knowledge and experiences of CGHS Alumni!

09.01.2022 Year 10 Elective History recently staged an archeological dig! In groups, students had to select a fossil from each geological time period. They then had to then place the printed images of the fossils into the 'dig site', deliberately making some sequencing errors, and recording the grid sector they were positioned in. Following this, groups rotated, so that they were excavating another group's site. Detailed records were made, with each discovered fossil recorded on the dig grid, bagged, and labelled appropriately. The challenge now will be to determine which fossils were out of chronological sequence!

03.01.2022 R U OK? Day is on September 10 and Cloud 9 is preparing a special whole school event for this day. This national day of action reminds us that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? if someone in your world is struggling with life’s ups and downs. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected. 'There's more to say after R U OK?' is the message for R U OK?Day 2020 and will focus on building c...onfidence and skills so people know how to keep the conversation going with someone in their life who is struggling. You don't have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. By knowing what to say, you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they're in crisis. Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life: 1. Ask 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check in See more
