22.01.2022 Wax On Wax Off Recently we had a call from a customer who had knocked over a red candle whilst it had hot wax in it. The result was a red wax stain all over her nylon carpet. It had penetrated deeply into the fibres and simply scraping it off would not have been effective.... Using a combination of heat and a grease solvent we were able to remove the wax leaving the carpet looking as new. There are times when you can remove spills and marks from your carpet if you get to them early and use the correct products and procedures but there are times when DIY just won't do it. These before and after photos tell the story. The area where the first lot of wax was removed is still wet in the photo but it dried without any evidence of the spill.

21.01.2022 Caring for Leather Leather furniture should be cleaned periodically to remove deep seated dirt and grime. It should then be protected with quality leather protector. Occasionally wiping your leather furniture with a micro fibre cloth and warm water will help to remove surface dirt between deep cleans.... Avoid using harsh cleaners as leather will dry out and may begin to crack. Leather furniture which is starting to look a little dull and worn can be rejuvenated with a professional clean. This photo is of a white leather couch which on arrival looked fairly dull and dirty and after being thoroughly cleaned and protected looked much like it would have when new. Of course minor wear and nicks in the leather won't be repaired by cleaning but the difference made to the couch was remarkable.

14.01.2022 Waterproof Makeup Disaster - Averted Recently we had an emergency call from a customer who had knocked over his wife's waterproof foundation. The bottle had smashed on the tiles but then landed on the carpet just outside the ensuite on the carpet of their new home.... He had tried vinegar but it had no effect. I'll explain why. Makeup is oil based and and even more so when it's waterproof foundation. Oil and water don't mix! We used a water soluble solvent which dissolved the grease allowing us to extract it with hot water and cleaning solution. It was deep in areas through to the base of the pile and had thrown a wide spatter so it took quite some time to remove all of it. The before and after pictures show the initial problem and the end result. So if you are dealing with a spill or stain on your carpet - identify if it is a water or oil/grease based problem. Some tips to help you decide: Most foods tend to be water based before they are combined with other ingredients. When food is cooked - milk, cooking oil, cream, cheese or other oily substances are added during the cooking process. Coffee is a dye. Coffee with milk becomes a dye with the addition of grease from the milk. A tomato is water based. Tomato sauce from a pasta dish has oil and sometimes cheese in the mix so is now a greasy stain. Curry is a dye made from saffron, tumeric and other organic matter. Curry which has been made into a dish for dinner has oil, butter, coconut and other oil based ingredients combined and must be treated as an oil based stain. Hot substances spilled onto furniture or carpet bring in the added element of heat which can further penetrate the carpet fibres making it more difficult to remove. Sugary spills (ice-cream, barbecue sauce etc) can leave behind a sugary residue which is dirt attracting. Always test your carpet cleaning product in an inconspicuous place first in case of colour loss or fibre damage. When in doubt consult a professional.

12.01.2022 Wool Carpet. Cleaning wool carpet is a little more specialised than cleaning synthetic yarns. Wool carpet should not be over wet or over heated as both of these can cause shrinking. Wool carpet absorbs more moisture than nylon types and therefore remains wetter for longer. It is important to get the carpet as dry as possible during cleaning. Cleaning products used on wool should also be woolsafe approved.... It is recommended that a second step be undertaken after wet cleaning, which is to buff the surface with a high speed machine and cotton pad. This pulls excess moisture from the base of the carpet and also removes any last traces of dirt which may come to the surface. If you have wool carpets make sure you use an expert carpet cleaning company. Call Chemdry Nova today on 0404612811 to book your wool carpet or rug cleaning.
