24.01.2022 Prajnaparamita Goddess of Wisdom: an online thangka workshop with world-renowned master thangka painter Andy Weber 13 15 November at Chenrezig Institute Art Centre. Prajnaparamita relates to ‘the Perfection of Wisdom’, the wisdom of all the Buddhas personified in the enlightened form of a female deity. ... Her upright left hand holds the sutra, her upright right hand holds a nine-pronged vajra, symbolic of the nine paths to enlightenment. Her middle hands are in the gesture of meditation indicating that only through meditation the insight into ultimate wisdom is possible. A personal and powerful experience will be created, not by the painting practice alone but also by recitation of the sutra and mantra. Ordained sangha recite the sutra daily and chant Prajnaparamita’s powerful mantra to gain insight into the ultimate nature of reality. You can attend the course online from home or come along to the art studio. There is space for a maximum of ten people in the art studio, which will be equipped with a large screen in order to follow Andy clearly, who will be based in his own studio. Join our own guided tour at 11.15am tomorrow, and every Sunday. It's completely free, relaxing, friendly, interesting and children love it. We've got lots of prayer wheels for them to turn, colour at every corner and some interesting wildlife to spot. Meet our western Buddhist nuns; they're full of humour and happiness. You may even see our Ti...betan teacher, Geshe Phuntsok Tsultrim, as he often comes down to the Big Love Cafe for a cup of English Breakfast tea (his favourite). See you tomorrow?

19.01.2022 Roadworks days have changed! They will now take place Monday and Thursday next week 19 and 22 October 6.00am - 5.00pm... The centre's entry road through to the carparks will be affected while gutters are fixed. We've been advised that cars may be allowed through at intervals. However, it's probably best to park at the art centre and walk up. Thank you for your patience!

16.01.2022 Some weeks ago we showed you the process of filling these beautiful statues with mantras and precious materials, before the exteriors were to be carefully cleaned ready for gold-leafing. Here are the stunning final results after Tony from the Art Centre meticulously applied the delicate gold leaf. The statues are now back in the hands of their happy owners.

16.01.2022 First time drawing sacred art; first time at an Andy Weber workshop. Look at this inspiring result from a first-time student at last weekend's online workshop with renowned thangka painter Andy Weber, who was based at his studio in the UK. Here's what our new student had to say about the weekend:... Even though it was online, it felt like Andy was right there teaching next to me. From the pre-course preparation right through to the end of the workshop, Andy clearly and patiently led us step by step through the process, from making the grid to nearly completing a drawing of Prajnaparamita. He guided us with full dharma explanations of meanings and symbolism relating to the deity’s body, gestures, jewels, decorations and gave insight into the chakras. After the workshop and intense focus on Prajnaparamita I found myself starting to visualise Buddha nature in my body. Isn’t that interesting? I was so fortunate to participate in my first online thangka painting course with Andy Weber last weekend. Thank you Andy and technical assistant Matthew! Students are now hoping Andy will follow up soon with another online workshop focusing on painting techniques for completion of Prajnaparamita.

03.01.2022 Roadworks at Chenrezig Monday 23 November Vehicle access allowed to all parts of the centre, but please take care and drive slowly. An excavator and bobcat will be working on the road, but passing will be possible. ... Tuesday 24 November Thursday 3 December The entire road will be closed to vehicles while a 152m section of road is concreted. We appreciate your cooperation with our contractor. Pedestrian access to the centre will be available from the Welcome Arch. Instructions: Just before the Welcome Arch, turn left at the 'high vehicles' sign and park along here. (This short road is usually a detour for high vehicles to avoid going through the Welcome Gate.) Important: The contractor and his team will be parking their plant and vehicles at the Art Centre, so this area needs to be kept free. Emergencies: In the event of an emergency only, a neighbour has kindly allowed a bypass through his property. It is accessed from our road and will be marked by traffic cones. The three gates along this rough track must be kept closed to prevent animals escaping. Thank you, Norm! Hopefully, we don’t need to use it.
