21.01.2022 Hi Chermside parkrunners! It's August, and if you've been with us for a while, you will know that this is when we celebrate our anniversary. We were looking forward to celebrating our 5th anniversary on the 22nd, but unfortunately COVID-19 has made this an impossibility. So, instead, we are doing a social media anniversary. In the week leading up to Saturday the 22nd, if you feel like celebrating, please do so and send us your photos (via Facebook message or email - [email protected]) - we will collate them into an album so that we can at least be all together in cyberspace! One of the great parts of our anniversary is partnering with a local charity. This year we had planned to raise money for Hummingbird House. We will post some links leading up to the 22nd in order to give them some much needed publicity, and they will be our charity partner in 2021 (should we be back by then.) In the meantime, stay safe, and we will be back running together as soon as we can. Bradley (on behalf of the Chermside parkrun RD team)

20.01.2022 This gorgeous photo of matching Mum, son and dog was snapped by one of our regulars - if this is you, enjoy! Chermside parkrun

20.01.2022 Good morning all! Hope everyone has had a wonderful week and you are all keeping motivated in this cooler weather! parkrunner profile Names: Emi & Clara Scott ... # of parkruns: 83 & 55 # of times volunteered: 12 & 10 Most memorable or funniest parkrun moment? Chermside 1st birthday - onesie themed! There were so many great costumes and I was Tigger and Clara was a dog. How did you first get involved or hear about parkrun? My husband, Bradley, started parkrun at Mitchie before Chermside opened and then became a regular (and now ED) at Chermside. I was not at all fit, and came along once or twice to see what all the fuss was about. Everyone was so welcoming and I made some great friends. The hardest part was getting out of bed (!) but once I got into routine, I found it was easier and easier to complete the 5km, walking then jogging. Clara has been pushed in the pram for as long as she can remember, but then started walking parts of the course. Since she turned 4, she was able to get her barcode! Since parkrun has been on hold how have you been staying motivated? I haven't been particularly motivated, but did some online yoga, stayed connected with intraining on fb, ran with my friend once a week, walked my dogs and some dance video workouts. Clara got off her training wheels, so I have been able to run alongside her bike. Dream parkrun location to visit and why? (anywhere in the world!) My mum did San Francisco and it sounded amazing running with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Why do you volunteer? I love being part of the community and getting to know new people. Volunteering is a great way to give back and keep parkrun awesome! Favourite food? E: do I have to choose just one? C: blackberries Favourite drink? E: chai latte C: strawberry milkshake Favourite music? E: as a music teacher, I like a broad range of genres, mostly what my students haven't played to death! C: Teeny Tiny Stevies If you could give advice on anyone wanting to start participating in parkrun what would it be? I encourage you to give it a go! It's not competitive or cliquey and you are welcome at any speed. Getting out of bed is the hardest part. Once you are there, you may as well walk fast or jog a bit to get to coffee quicker! Just by showing up on a semi-regular basis, your fitness will improve and you will enjoy a great start to the weekend! Thank you Clara and Emi! Have a great weekend everyone

19.01.2022 Today we would have celebrated our 5th anniversary, but it wasn't to be. In the meantime here are some photos submitted from parkrunners. Feel free to send your favorites in. Don't forget to donate if you can to Hummingbird House - charities don't take time out in a lockdown!

19.01.2022 If you haven't heard already, we will be back on the 28th of November. Thanks to those who have already put themselves forward as volunteers three weeks out! Our core volunteer team has had eight months off, so we may be a bit rusty. Please be patient with us as we get back into the swing of things. I'll be posting more leading up to the restart. If you missed the announcement, it's on the parkrun Australia Facebook page.... Cheers, Bradley

11.01.2022 Hello parkrunners! It's now the week leading up to our 5th anniversary, so we'd love for you to celebrate with us - albeit distantly. Share the parkrun love with others by emailing photos to [email protected] or by messaging them to us. Bonus points will be awarded for fancy dress. A big part of our anniversary is supporting a charity that is either local or connected to one of us. This year we are partnering with Hummingbird House, who specialise in caring for families o...f children with life-limiting conditions. They are Queensland's only children's hospice, and are right here in Chermside. Hummingbird house will be our charity partner at our next in-person anniversary, but any donations this year would be very welcome. You can find more about them on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/HummingbirdHouseBrisbane So please help them out, and don't forget to send in your celebratory pictures. Cheers, Bradley (on behalf of the Chermside RD team)
