24.01.2022 A number of residents are coming to CHERS for help and support regarding travel out of Australia on compassionate or humanitarian grounds. As always we refer them to Carlton legal service and Ian Cunliffe the Solicitor who is been doing this now for over ten years. its concerning the department of home affairs is taking a hard position when considering cases. even when people declare as required that they will be away for over 3 months and its to visit a seriously sick paren...t for example it refused no less than three times. With no proper explanation or reasoning. Some who have just returned from Africa are reasoning that the Morrison government did not provide any travel arrangement help or support while others similar western countries did for much smaller people from their countries. People who come to us do understand where the government is coming from and are willing to comply the rules. But the rules should be applied to them as they are stated online, not other rules which they have now way of knowing how to comply. That is to say the government/department of home Affairs should be transparent enough with them. https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/leaving-australia
22.01.2022 Message from DHHS, Hello everyone As we shift the focus of our response at the North Melbourne and Flemington housing estates to recovery and prevention of further outbreaks of COVID-19, we thank you for your continued efforts to keep the community informed and safe. ... Eid al-Adha Eid al-Adha is a significant annual Islamic observance for Muslim communities across Australia. This year, Eid al-Adha will begin in the evening of Thursday, 30 July and end in the evening of Monday, 3 August. Even in the time of this pandemic, the importance of creating the special atmosphere of Eid of peace, respect and caring, will be of great importance to our Muslim residents and communities. Making sure Eid is celebrated in a way that is safe, that is in keeping with current restrictions and does not contribute to the spread of COVID-19 is very important. The department, with input from community leaders, is developing information for residents who will be celebrating Eid reminding people about safe practices during their celebrations. During Eid, like every day, the important actions that keep our community safe remain. These are: only leaving your home for one of the four reasons maintaining a social distance of 1.5 metres from people outside your home wearing a mask when you leave the house and always practicing good hand hygiene A reminder that all places of worship on all denominations in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire are closed for private worship or religious ceremonies. Ceremonies and services can still be recorded or broadcast live from the place of worship for viewing online. Those who are necessary to conduct the ceremony may be on site to record and live stream services, however this is limited to a maximum of five people. You should ensure those people wear a face covering and maintain physical distancing by keeping at least 1.5 metres between each other at all times. Further information about places of worship is available at: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/religion-and-ceremony-metropoli Kind regards Community Engagement Team Department of Health and Human Services
