24.01.2022 Often I paint at night while watching TV. Usually smaller than this size works a little better but just to show you my lap set up - my legs are up on my chaise chair which does make it easier to support the boards. More magnolias on the go...

22.01.2022 It’s great to see lots of sales at the Ku-ring-gai Spring Exhibition at St Ives Shopping Village. I’m surprised to see how long it takes many people to come up the ramp as the look at the paintings in detail, go back and recoil at some that capture their attention. I had always wondered how it worked being hung on the ramp but it is a very successful location.

22.01.2022 Yesterday’s sketches from our bush walk - all pretty fast and loose - trying not to overwork or focus on details. 09.01.2022 The last couple of times heading out to paint I’ve been wearing in my @etchr_lab satchel just using it on my lap open like an L shape. It works really well like this, but can also attach to my camera tripod to act as the backing board and tray for palette and water if I wanted to stand to paint. #behindthescenes @ Patonga, New South Wales

07.01.2022 We touched on figures in my zoom class this week and how important it is to work wet against wet and just keep painting one element then the next while each colour is wet so they can run and soften into each other. You can control how much they run with the thickness of the pigment that you lay down. This is a very quick people study from my sketchbook in Spain last year and it’s a good example where you can see the hair bleeding into the umbrella, and the umbrella colour b...leeding into the skin tone in the arm etc. These areas create movement and interest, but I remember when I was starting out I would have wanted each element (ie shirt, pants) all perfectly formed. 03.01.2022 Oh what a gorgeous day to be out painting Waratah flowers at Patonga. I realised that I don’t think I’ve ever seen Waratah flowers in person. They must be very fussy about where they grow, and there were lots of walkers on the tracks today specifically to see them, so it’s it’s like a thing to do that I never knew existed. 3 sketches of the Waratahs and a few other little native studies done today.
