24.01.2022 A really interesting idea to experiment with....Silent Meetings. This quick video depicts how silent meetings can help with creativity and idea generation. Worth a try, and an interesting approach to mix things up a bit.

24.01.2022 Do you find yourself feeling reactive and caught up in being busy? Often this leads to thoughts and feelings that create a sense of struggle and behaviours that arent quite aligned with our values. By slowing down and more mindfully connecting to values, we are able to align our thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a way that is more attuned to the life we want to lead. Taking time out to regularly reflect on the busyness, the struggle and noticing when you are becoming ...more reactive can make a big difference. By starting to notice yourself more, you can start to make choices about how you want to be showing up and take a more deliberate approach to the experience others are having of you. #coaching #development #leadership #mindfulness #values #alignment

24.01.2022 Using signature strengths has been found to have a powerful impact on the establishment and attainment of goals, and in generating a sense of wellbeing. The Values in Action survey is the most widely used strengths survey (https://www.viacharacter.org/www/) and is a free tool. A focus on your top 5 strengths - your signature strengths - has also been shown to drive motivation, performance and achievement. Leaders who focus on a strength based approach have also been shown to ...increase engagement and performance within their teams. If you havent considered a strengths based approach to development, or you could benefit from support in exploring how to harness your strengths in pursuit of your goals, engaging a coach might be worth considering. #coaching #development #leadership #strengths #signaturestrengths #goals #wellbeing

23.01.2022 I find it interesting to reflect on the differences between fixed v growth mindset. An abundance of research, including the work of Carol Dweck, highlights the positive affect of a growth mindset, including the development of increased resilience to cope with setbacks and the tendency to see setbacks as an integral part of learning. Worth a pause to reflect perhaps.... #mindset #coaching #leadership #development

23.01.2022 Many of us have been experiencing heightened anxiety levels over the past days as the COVID-19 crisis has started to evolve. Some of the things I've been focusing on is connecting through mindfulness to the present, and recognising that in the face of uncertainty, it helps to stay centred on what I can either control or contribute to in a way that is aligned to my values. I've learned a lot over the past couple of years that I am working to articulate in a way that will help others, however in the meantime, the attached resource from Russ Harris (author of the Happiness Trap and respected Acceptance & Commitment Therapy expert) may be useful for many of you

21.01.2022 Another week of learning. The Leadership Circle is a powerful 360 instrument that supports powerful insights for leaders who are focused on developing to the next level in their thinking, feeling and behaviour. I particularly like the way it brings adult development theory to life and quickly focuses on the most impactful development opportunities. I am looking forward to integrating this into my coaching for both individuals and teams who are looking to up the ante on their leadership presence #coaching #development #LeadershipCircle

20.01.2022 Taking time out to reflect on what matters most to you can help clarify your values. Alignment of your behaviour, through purposefully developing habits aligned to your values, can help bring the things that matter most to you to life. #values #coaching

20.01.2022 It can be easy to find ourselves focused on unhelpful thoughts and feelings that are keeping us stuck. Whilst its important to acknowledge that these thoughts and feelings do exist, its just as important to be able to hold them lightly and accept them for what they are, rather than as defining how or who we are. Through a focus on values and goals, a coach can help you connect with a range of thoughts, feelings and behaviours more aligned to the outcomes you are looking to achieve #coaching #development #acceptanceandcommitmenttherapy #ACT #defusion

20.01.2022 Resilience has been found to be most highly correlated with belief in ones ability, positive mood/outlook and self esteem. Research indicates that enhancing these protective factors is more effective in building resilience than a focus on reducing a range of risk factors (such as anxiety, depression, negative mood and perceived stress). Resilience is a capability worthy of a proactive focus not just in leadership development, but also for the enhancement of meaning and satisfaction in life. Developing resilience readies us for the unexpected adversities that cross our path, and enables us to be ready with the tools that will help aid recovery and potentially growth beyond #resilience #leadership #coaching

19.01.2022 Whilst holidays can be great, they can also give rise to some unsettling feelings about how we might be feeling about our lives. This article normalises this, which I think is a really helpful perspective. If setting a little bit of structure around holiday time, or establishing some goals or even a wish list for holiday time is something that might help you connect with time away from work with a greater sense of enjoyment, I'd encourage a quick read. And of course, support from a Coach or professionals in the field can also help too!

18.01.2022 How connected do you feel to your values, strengths, key relationships and the legacy youd like to leave in the world? Getting a sense of connection with these aspects of yourself, and elevating their connection with your goals, aspirations, work, play and rest have significant links to wellbeing and the experience of the good life. One strategy that can assist in creating a stronger connection with these internal or intrinsic motivators is journaling. How could you take some time out to slow down, and reflect on how you are creating a sense of connection with these motivators in both day to day life as well as your strivings toward longer term goals? #coaching #development #leadership #wellbeing #motivators

17.01.2022 A lovely articulation of the difference between happiness and meaning, well worth the time out to watch and reflect....

16.01.2022 Gratitude is a powerful attitude and practice to incorporate into your approach to life. A focus on gratitude has helped me find meaning in the toughest of times, and has helped me focus more on what matters most, letting go of the things that have dragged me down. Building gratitude into your journaling, conversations with your family at dinner time, or even a weekly review are some simple ways to focus on what youre really grateful for. #coaching #development #gratitude

16.01.2022 2019 has been a big year for me personally, one in which I've built upon my resilience by tapping into fear, courage and all the support from the important people in my life.... #reflection #fear #courage #resilience #coaching #leadershipdevelopement

15.01.2022 Taking the time to reflect on what matters most to you in life, what you stand for, and the legacy youd like to leave can help to clarify your values (if you need some thought starters do a web search for values lists). Getting clearer on your values can help to align goals to the bigger picture, and can create a more internal sense of motivation to support your effort, particular when the goals youre working towards are more challenging #coaching #development #goals #values

15.01.2022 Much has been written on the topics of Happiness and Meaning over the the past few decades. A balanced focus on both can bring more fulfilment to life. Considering values, strengths, resources and relationships in our approach to both Happiness and Meaning can build upon a sense of intrinsic motivation and connection, which in a way could lead to multiplier effect like impacts - worthy of some consideration! #coaching #development #leadership #happiness #meaning #values #strengths

13.01.2022 Barbara Fredricksons focus on building positivity offers lots of opportunities for creativity, fun, development and personal challenge. Fredrickson proposes these 12 approaches for building positivity. What strengths could you recognise in how you foster positivity in your life? Are there other areas you could leverage these strengths? Are there 1 or 2 areas where you could build more positivity by noticing how you show up and experimenting with different thoughts, feelings and behaviours? #coaching #development #leadership #positivity #strengths

13.01.2022 Connecting with our feelings through a mindful focus on our body can help to connect with our thoughts. Slowing down to notice the feelings in your body, feeling where in your body they occur, naming them, and asking yourself what message you can take from these feelings is one way you can connect with your thoughts. From there, asking yourself whether your thoughts are serving you well might help in understanding whether your thinking is supporting the goals you are working towards. #coaching #development #feelings #thoughts #goals

12.01.2022 Being able to name the feelings in your body through adopting simple emotion based language might be one way of connecting your feelings (emotions and sensations in the body), with conscious and subconscious thoughts #coaching #development #feelings

09.01.2022 Experiencing thoughts that lead to worry and stress happens to us all at times. Next time you experience this, perhaps give some thought to the facts and viable alternatives to help diffuse your state of mind and enable momentum #coaching #leadership #development

09.01.2022 A clear understanding of values can help in navigating the most challenging hurdles. Its not necessary to have a long laundry list of values, but rather a handful that really matter to you and speak to the core essence of who you are. Using them as your navigation markers, boundaries, decision making filters and in reflection can be a really helpful way to increase your sense of achievement and well being.

08.01.2022 For many people, the changes of the previous week, as we have moved to increased working from home and social distancing, has created thoughts & feelings of discomfort. Added to this a weekend of confinement at home may have many people feeling uncomfortable with what lies ahead. Rather than attempting to control or dismiss these feelings, it may be helpful to focus on grounding in a mindful acceptance of them, free of any judgement toward what may be coming up for you. Allow...ing yourself to orientate in a focus on your core values as well as in tasks and actions that feel aligned to the impact you are hoping to have during this time, whilst compassionately accepting your thoughts and feelings, may be useful. I've reconnected with a daily practice of mindful acceptance and a commitment to actions and behaviours aligned to my intentions. This has also included not beating myself up for feeling a bit unsettled at times, but reminding myself that it's probably a very normal feeling with everything that is happening in the world, but not one that needs to drive the way I show up. What steps could you take to set yourself up in a mindful, accepting and committed approach for the week head? #mindfulness #acceptance #leadership #coaching

07.01.2022 Do you find your reactive self driving you on autopilot, triggering feelings of disconnect and hindering the achievement of the goals youd like to achieve? Developing a stronger connection with our Resourceful Self through mindfulness, noticing our thoughts and feelings and purposefully aligning our behaviours can better support achievement of our goals and ambitions. Getting clear on what you need to do more of (as well as less of) to tap into your resourceful self is a gre...at way to support achievement across all aspects of life. A coach can support your development through helping to connect you with and grow your resourceful self. If coaching support is something youre interested in exploring Id love to hear from you! #coaching #development #leadership #worklifebalance #values #resourcefulself

06.01.2022 Building dedicated time into your day to practice simple mindfulness skills can help you better connect with your experiences in life and connect with your feelings. Noticing through all 5 senses can help you feel more present and take in more of the experience you are having each moment of the day. Aligning this experience with how you intend to be can lead to a greater sense of connection, satisfaction and impact, both for yourself and others around you #coaching #mindfulness #development

04.01.2022 As a follow on to my earlier post about Russ Harris' FACE COVID framework, Russ has now released this wonderfully accessible video that provides an overview of his framework providing support for feelings of anxiety and concern during the challenges we are all currently facing into. Take care everyone

04.01.2022 I had the privilege of working with an incredible executive coach a few years ago who noticed that I would often hold my breath or breathe in a very shallow way. By getting really present with noticing when this was happening for me, I tended to do this when I felt under pressure, or was working to block my connection with my feelings and to protect myself from what was happening around me (which also included me being either defensive or playing it safe by playing small). ...By connecting with my breath I have found a powerful way to connect with my reflex actions, the feelings in my body, my senses, triggers, and to be more grounded in the present. This has helped me make more mindful choices in life. When my husband died nearly 2 years ago, my breath was the only thing that kept me going. Then my breath helped me recognise my pain. And then it has helped me navigate a path to where I am today, recognising the myriad of joy, hope, fear, grief, love, and anticipation for what comes next. Take some time to recognise and connect with your own breath on a regular basis. It can help you connect to a more holistic perspective of who you are, where you are and what you might want to do next.... #coaching #development #leadership #selfcare #breath

03.01.2022 Self care Sunday! What intentions will you set for your self care for the week ahead? Taking care of your mind, body and your spirit helps lay a solid foundation for facing into the challenges we all experience in life. It doesnt have to take hours, a few minutes of deep breathing, thinking about 3 good things that have happened for you each day, or mindfully enjoying your morning coffee can make a big difference to how nourished you feel. This weeks challenge: set 1 simple self care goal and see what difference it makes to your sense of well-being.

02.01.2022 2 days attending Russ Harris Introductory ACT workshop (ACT being short for Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) have given me much richer insight into the value ACT can add to coaching. Im looking forward to weaving ACT into the work I do with my clients

02.01.2022 Brene Browns book Dare to Lead is a great read with lots of useful, applicable tools, language and lenses for thinking and discussion. This handy reference can help support more courageous conversations. Brenes website contains many other useful tools https://daretolead.brenebrown.com/

02.01.2022 Do you find yourself stuck in a see-saw focused on the past and the future, creating a sense of worry? Does this take you away from the present, and rob you of your enjoyment and sense of satisfaction from the things you are experiencing today? Creating a simple mindfulness routine (a few minutes of deep breathing where you are tuned into your senses, or a short guided meditation) may help in becoming more present, which has been found to increase life satisfaction. #coaching #development

01.01.2022 What intentional steps will you take to purposefully engage your team and support their development? In doing so, take some time to notice how this makes you feel about your role as a leader, and whether it also creates a sense of your own growth and development in return.
