24.01.2022 The children were drawn to the light table at playsession last week so I have set up our light table for them to explore further. Our cubby made it perfect for limiting the natural light and highlighting the reflections made by the transparent geometric shapes and paddles. The children can experiment with the colour mixing paddles to make new colours.

22.01.2022 Mixing, measuring, stirring, fizzing.

20.01.2022 Another inspiration from Dale Eadies workshop back in May where the playmat is created by crocheting through the weave of the latchook cloth. Credit also to Eszter Foldesi who has created playmats using latchook creating 3D designs.

19.01.2022 Our favourite story at the present time is Room on the Broom and following on from painting the witchs bow and making her magic wand we have created a bog with the dog, cat, bird and frog added in. This recreation offers the children an opportunity to explore the sensation of mud with their hands and the aromas of chocolate.

18.01.2022 Recycling a box from a vertical garden, flexible plastic has been formed to make a tube. The children fill the tube with balls then watch them fall into the box below when the plastic sleeve is pulled out.

17.01.2022 Kmart Hack - pigs from the pet section. When squeezed these pigs let out a grunt and the harder and longer you squeeze the funnier it is. Added to a sensory tub with chocolate goop provides the children with a fine motor strengthening experience. Squeezing the pig to make it grunt uses small muscle groups in the fingers and hands and builds muscle strength for life skills such as doing buttons and zips, opening lunch boxes and using cutlery. Academic benefits include holding a pencil for colouring in and using scissors. The goop is a resistance medium which requires some manipulation to move and pick up. Adding a scraper and spoon invites the children to collect the goop and baste the pigs in mud or just using their hands.

16.01.2022 Orbees representing frog eggs are featured in the life cycle of a frog on our tuff tray. The tuff tray is large enough and has many sides for the children to access the sensory experience. The orbees provide the children with an opportunity to explore the temperature/texture and structure of the water bead. The children are able to identify the progress of the developing frog from the eggs to the mature frog.

15.01.2022 Hubby and I put this weighing station together over the weekend. The table and chairs were purchased from Q Toys in Victoria. The rest was trial and error as we made our own templates, cut holes in the table and fitted the bowls. The last picture was the inspiration from overseas

15.01.2022 252 balls and cups done so far.... half way there.

14.01.2022 A big thank you to Brad and Corrine Clark for this amazing Very Hungry Caterpillar interaction board to add to our VHC pop up book experience. Brad has printed the back ground on corflute and made the days of the week stickers to fit on recycled nappy wipe lids. Love it! And the children will too.

14.01.2022 NAIDOC week provocation.

14.01.2022 Ikea Hack - Id had my eye on this coffee table from Ikea for some time and couldnt let an opportunity pass when an ex display piece was heavily discounted in their seconds area. Its the perfect height for pre-schoolers and enables 4 children to investigate the natural products at the same time.

11.01.2022 I exhausted the internet trying to find something similar in wood so I gave home made air dry clay (cornflour, bi-carb and water) a go. These alphabet shapes are sitting in dry polenta and the children use small paint brushes to uncover the discs. They can then use the brush or their finger to trace the letters.

10.01.2022 Thank you to Pete and Elissa Havrlant for donating this awesome paint carousel. This is fantastic and encourages sharing and negotiating equipment.

08.01.2022 Indoor ball pit ready for use. The children have been eagerly watching it come together in the playroom. Thanks to son Courtney for your wonderful input on this project.

06.01.2022 Coming soon. Copied from a scene from Nemo a crocheted sea anemone

04.01.2022 Love that the children placed the tunnel in front of the entrance to the box and used it to crawl through in to the box.

04.01.2022 New fruit Ive made to add to The Very Hungry Caterpillar experience.

02.01.2022 Scissor action ball tongs are offered to add an element of skill to this ball sorting experience. The tongs assist in pre-scissor skills as they strengthen fine motor muscles and finger dexterity necessary for scissor action and pencil use.
