25.01.2022 An amazing Sunday walk of 10km today and to start with I really couldnt put my finger on why? Finally realised what it was ... Be still and know that I am God.... With all the restriction and it being early on Sunday morning there was an absolute silence except for nature: birds, frogs, cows .... no traffic from The Melba nor the Goulburn Valley (Hwys). It was almost eerie but definitely spiritual. Would love to have taken a sound snapshot.... you will need to make d...o with this picture of one of the wonderful trees on the property taken yesterday to send to a friend in Stage 4 restrictions in the city who wanted some green air. Just breathe everyone. Stay safe. See more

23.01.2022 So we have quite a few new arrivals here at Cheviot Glen some of them VERY new!

20.01.2022 Whilst visitors come and go there are some visitors we think a little special. Especially when they turn up unannounced, like the blue tongued lizard about a 30cm long in the garden, the echidna at the bottom of the sheep shed ramp and these little fellow after the insects attracted to the houselights ....

20.01.2022 A selection of recent visitors ...

19.01.2022 So theshepherd brought them down off the hill and they decided to add to the flock.

19.01.2022 Morning sunrise dispersing the early morning mist. No sunrise is the same!!

19.01.2022 Sitting on the verandah at Cantray having been caught short watching a spectacular rain, thunder and lightning display after checking the radar and thinking it was going to straddle Yea and pass us by. Reminds me of the John Farnham song about Rain. Wish I could find it on google!!! Sooo long without rain and now we have some. Go garden one and garden 2. Go Head Gardener. All your hard work is being blessed by a surprise gift.

16.01.2022 Driving back from Melbourne this weekend from Conference this little fella w as at the gate to greet us. Couldnt resist a photo shoot with him/her although he/she was a little shy and tried to excavate the gatepost to avoid being photographed. I love being a native animal paparrazzi!!

15.01.2022 Well we certainly have had some special visitors at Cheviot Glen Cottages but this prickly little guest got very defensive when, after walking down the driveway minding his/her own business we stopped for a photo shoot. Quite obliging at first he/she decided the shade of the car, complete with engine running was far preferable to the road and took refuge. Whilst we tried to extract him/her gingerly with just a branch and the PPE of a spare egg carton, he bunkered down just in front of the passenger rear tyre and threatened a spiny revenge if we disturbed him further! Fantastic experience to add to the visit from the koala and the wombat photoshoot earlier in the year!

15.01.2022 Whilst walking down by the seasonal creek last week this little fellow obliged with a photo shoot. Expecting him to make a run back into his burrow at any point I stepped closer and closer clicking as I went...

14.01.2022 Well, Here we are. Our little piece of heaven. Just a few photos to show you just what we are experiencing in our six months here on Cheviot Glen as we prepare the farm/holiday let cottages. Our two single bedroom cottages have queen-sized beds, are self-contained and are set into the side of the hill with some special views of the Black Ranges. We are located 110km about 1 1/2 hours drive out of Melbourne. Close enough to escape The Big Smoke but not too far away as to ...begin a special weekend/week with a loooong drive! 5 kms from Yea by road or rail trail the property is located parallel the the Great Victorian Rail Trail which features Victorias longest (201m) rail tunnel: The Cheviot Tunnel, The cottages have reverse cycle air conditioners, ceiling fans, solid wood heaters for the winter snuggle season, double spas for those special evenings and a fully-equipped kitchen.

12.01.2022 Sooo... we hosted a very special OVERSIZED GUEST this weekend. She wouldnt fit in the cottage, nor in the carpark of the cottage so we had to make room for her in the hay shed. (Even then she had her feet hanging out of the bed!!) Cheviot Glen hosted Steve, Michelle and family which included their immaculate Scania truck.. visiting for the annual Alexandra truck and ute gathering. It was magical to see her wake up stretch and then sneak off with bright eyes blazing in the early (veryearly!) morning fog.

12.01.2022 Just another gentle sunrise along Cheviot Road and the Rail Trail.

09.01.2022 And this was the sunset on a rather trying day of warmth and stickiness, not least for Harry, the golden retriever. He had a large molar removed, teeth scaled and cleaned, a foreign object ( read grass seed) removed from his ear and skin tests for mange which revealed it is just allergic reaction to something. The sunset reminds me of a quote from Richard III : "and all the clouds that louered over our house, now in the deep bosom of the ocean are burid." No ocean to bury them in but a cooler 26 degrees forecast for today.

07.01.2022 Well, following some good falls of rain coming down the grass is coming up and a bright winter green (it may even have been convinced by the unseasonably warm weather that spring might be on its way!! ) This morning on the way to church we spotted 7 kangaroos on Wombat Hill trying to warm up on the slope as the ice was defrosting in the early morning sun. Then just as I was watching them watching us, several more bounced on the scene and then several more - enough to make m...e start counting (quickly) with my mouth open in astonishment as I started rounding off the count at forty! If I hadnt learned sometime ago that a group of kangaroos was a mob, I could almost swear they were a corroboree (?). Flabbergasted at the number! I think the only time I have seen such a number was on Hepburn Springs/Daylesford golf course. I am sorry to say I didnt take any photos I was that surprised at the number! And, as Alister pointed out, they seem to meld with the grass whatever the colour! See more

06.01.2022 Not the usual way to cook a cauliflower but zoom in on the little screen and for those who dont have a Thermomix you will realise just how big this little beauty is! And ... whilst I believe passionately that you can do ALMOST ANYTHING in a Thermomix this little beauty did not grow here! Butinour very productive vegetable garden up here in Yea. Loving living in Yea! And this is what less than half of it became along with some nutmeg, lemon pepper, veg stock paste, parsley and half a small wheel of camembert instead of the usual cream cheese. Heaven on a soup spoon!!

06.01.2022 Well, are we excited?! We have an island in the big dam. For many many months our big dam has been masquerading as a little dam. Now with all this fabulous rain since April we are excited to report that the little island giving refuge to varying types of wildlife over the seasons. The rest of the dams are full to overflowing. YEA!!!

05.01.2022 The bushfires. And in an effort to know what we can do and how we can help we have decided to donate 20% of our income from each booking for the cottages at Cheviot Glen until 30 th June 2020. Come and share our beautiful country and support those who have lost theirs .

04.01.2022 Dry and thirsty we are, like everyone in rural areas around the country but playing hide and seek with the mob of kangaroos on an evening walk up wombat hill paddock is interesting to say the least. They give a certain distance before deciding Harry and I are too close and effortlessly take their leave. Along the rail trail one was bold enough to taunt Harry into a race which was something I stood and watched gobsmacked! The roo was on one side of the fence Harry the other... going flat chat with the roo. Then to make it even more challenging the roo jumped the fence and continued down in front of Harry. I stood there thinking "hell give up soon - he does with the hares and rabbits, but no ... hed almost disappeared into the distance before I realised he was actually slowly walking back twds me. At 14 it must have been the adrenalin that kept him running. See more

04.01.2022 Well it finally happened! On the way to Church we spied a very special guest on our somewhat depleted dam. Sadly when I got out of the car to record the event, the six rams shut away in the dam paddock because we have 2-legged guests, thought it was time to come out and one, then another trotted eagerly to the gate with an enthusiastic is it time look on their faces. Sorry guys, you werent the attraction this time! :( Im not sure if the pelicans beak will hold much more than its belly can on our dam at the moment ...

03.01.2022 So the'shepherd ' brought them down off the hill and they decided to add to the flock.

03.01.2022 Sooo along with the rain and the increased insect output came these little fellas tapping at the french windows ... there ended up being three of them out for dinner or to be someone elses! Hope we dont get Mr and Mrs Brown back!
