25.01.2022 Victoria Falls, Mount Victoria. Nestled deep in the valley created by Victoria Creek (lots of Victorias around here) these falls are one of a handful that tumb...le over actual bedrock, under the mostly soft sandstone cliffs above (geologists may want to elucidate!) - but happened to be sat here for an hour improvising some music so took the shot. I never recommend midday high contrast shots if you want to capture anything beyond a postcard or magazine style image, but here I put on an ND32 (5 stop light block) and a polariser (to deepen sky and get rid of glare/reflections) resulting in a softer image of these enigmatic falls in medium low flow. 23.01.2022 "The two most powerful warriors are patience and time". Leo Tolstoy WALLS BURST ~ GROSE VALLEY One thing that is difficult to comprehend when I stand taking sho...ts of the valleys below me as a warm sun descends, is the foreground rocks I am standing on are likely 100-200 million years old. When we consider humans have only been walking on them for the last 130 000 years or so, it makes one feel very humble. This shot from Walls lookout area west down the Grose is a very typical moment where you think such things while waiting for the perfect moment and looking down at the weathered wind and rain rock. 22.01.2022 It has been lovely to have some decent rain over the past few days up here in the Mountains. We are running well below average on rainfall totals for this time... of year, and the temps have been a fair bit warmer than average for July, which seems to be a common trend these days. 20.01.2022 It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

20.01.2022 POSTCARD FROM THE BLUE MOUNTAINS ~ NARROW NECK TO MEGALONG Someone asked me yesterday in my gallery, 'what would sum up the Blue Mountains in a single image'? I... hadn't given it a lot of thought but suggested an image that showed a combination of the mysterious mist, the rising vertical sandstone escarpment, temperate rain forests and rugged edge of cliff rocks on distant trails. Of course it is so much more, but then I took myself to the days we used to travel and send postcards to family and friends, a single image with a short bit of text on the back saying what we were up to, that often arrived 'after' we got back from said location! ... for the Blue Mountains early postcards were of course Three Sisters and Wentworth Falls etc: early ones handcoloured, but in a current world of FB and Instagram, they have been replaced by selfies, people sitting on the rock in this image looking longingly into the distance. Definitely a step forward from a personalised perspective but perhaps a step back from the slow, mystery of those paper/mail days? What do you think? -- MY GALLERY TODAY OPEN 12-5pm with temps around 30C, a nice break from the hot trails! 17.01.2022 Volunteers plant thousands of native trees to feed sanctuary koalas after Blue Mountains bushfires The ABC reports: "Volunteers are planting about 5,000 trees i...n the Blue Mountains to help feed koalas at a sanctuary after critical food sources were burnt by the summer blazes. Australian Ecosystems Foundation spokesperson Allison Garoza said the volunteers were creating a wildlife corridor between two nature reserves. Ms Garoza said the project would revegetate an area of donated farmland, near Lithgow in central western New South Wales, with various eucalyptus species. The trees will benefit native wildlife and also be suitable to feed koalas undergoing rehabilitation programs at the nearby Secret Creek Sanctuary. "The diet of the koalas is quite restrictive, there are only a few species of trees that theyll feed on," Ms Garoza said." 05.01.2022 GREATE NEWS ~ Glow worms in Wollemi National Park survived Gospers Mountain bushfire Its like something out of a sci-fi movie an ancient species of bug, glow...ing on the roof of an abandoned railway tunnel, deep in a remote forest. The area has been off-limits due to bushfires and heavy rain before the coronavirus pandemic meant NSWs national parks were closed. Local tourism operator Kristie Kearney was among the first people to return to the tunnel and was relieved to find the creatures safe inside. "Its natures Milky Way.
