Struggling ...to make ends meet and unsure when they would be able to reopen, the couple pivoted to a new business The Alpine Sauce Co. - inspired by the sauces they used at The Chicken Shop. Having only sold two bottles of sauce while their restaurant was open, it was a gamble. One that has certainly paid off. Theyve now sold over 10,000 bottles of sauce, and Susan and Kevin are delighted to report The Alpine Sauce Co. is now a full time business for them. I was delighted to hear this good news story recently, but the reality for many small businesses is that times are really tough. With restrictions now easing in regional Victoria we must support our local family-owned businesses whether it be shopping in person or online. Today is National Family Business Day. The line up was just mind blowing - good folks lined up down the footpath past the bank just to try out our food (wish Id captured that shot!). Do you remember in the early days of Empty Esky, when we all... met Susan & Kevin from The Chicken Shop - Bright? They were evacuated due to the fires and had to shut shop in what usually is their busiest season. When they returned, over $20k worth of their stock had to be thrown out . (See the video in the comments to hear Susans story). They decided to make a few bottles of their famous bbq sauce and had around 20 to sell online to generate a bit of income. We put it to you guys, and asked if 100 people would be keen to purchase a bottle.....and here we are, 8 months later and over 10,000 bottles have been sold!! What even!
