19.01.2022 It's Saturday and a very humid day here in Darwin. However, it's great to be on duty again, pictured here with Johannes, Val, Mel and Lorenzo. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
17.01.2022 There's mangoes everywhere! It's the Mango Madness Festival today and was great to be on duty with cadets Josh and Brandon from Palmerston Cadet Division, ensuring all attendees had a safe and enjoyable time at the festival. Was great volunteering with you today! Fun trivia: Did you know more fresh mangoes are eaten every day around the world than any other fruit! ... Shout out to CrocCandy for the photo booth shots. 01.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 the guns on the Western Front fell silent finally signifying the long-awaited end to 4 years of brutal and destructive conflict known as the Great War. Throughout the course of the war, 330,000 Australian soldiers saw active service. From a population of 5 million (almost the same as Melbourne’s population today), Australia lost almost 62,000 men.... On the Western Front alone, approximately 45,000 Australians died. 82,000 were wounded in battle and a further 88,000 suffered a variety of illnesses and injuries. Of the 2,200 women who served overseas with the Australian Army Nursing Service, 21 nurses died during their war service and a number shortly thereafter. Today we pause to remember those men and women who have died or suffered in all wars, conflicts and peace operations and give thanks to those brave men and women who returned to build the future of the Australia we are so privileged to live in today. Lest We Forget. (reposted from another site)
