24.01.2022 Book week this year may be a tad quiet but wonderful nonetheless. Last year this little guy had a good time with his exotic frock. Get your little friends to try a different, colourful & interesting costume this year, but more importantly... Keep reading
23.01.2022 James Baldwin is remembered today. "Go Tell It On The Mountain" is my fave of all his masterpieces, one of those books that stays with you, the words linger. Mr Baldwin, is not just a storyteller, he was a pilgrim. In reading his work, you get a feeling that he came to do a job, and he did it well. His wit, social justice acumen and smarts, are just beyond me. Hes like that favourite uncle, you love to curl up and listen to. A literary ancestor, his lines are still quoted, enlightening; and he kindly shared this gift with us all

18.01.2022 A little boy approached his Mum, with a book wedged between his teeny-weeny hands. He is learning to read a lot more, but not always as excited by books as she could be. "Umm Mum, he asked with a chuckle, why do we have to read anyway" ? Mum held him lovingly and said, ... "We read because its fun... to learn new, exciting things; to enjoy amazing stories and go on adventures without actually moving. When we read, we see in our minds, what happens in lands far, far away. Those little words light up our imagination, and paints pictures in our thoughts; we play detective, solve puzzles, laugh out loud or even shed a tear ... We learn of kings and queens, princes and princesses, emperors, the cool things that happened in castles and museums that still stand today, duels and battles of long ago, all of which we would never have known except for books that tell the tales; When we read, were never bored. In between those pages, we cant be blue. And dont you just love that crisp smell of a new book? We read because we dream to be engineers when we grow up, get on spaceships; pick up skills like Mum or Dad, or learn to teach like Mr Doyle". "Woah Mum", the little boy said. "I didnt think of it like that". So read children, read for fun and for favours, history or sci-fi, comics or science, whatever tickles your fancy, read em all. Read as if the future depends on it... all cool things are learnt and they start with words or figures. Read as if your fortune or fantasies demand it, because my darling, it does. - Chi

05.01.2022 "What enabled me... she said, First, a mother who, by her example, made reading a delight and counseled me constantly.... my husband, Marty coached me through the birth of our son, he was the first reader and critic of articles, speeches and briefs I drafted, and he was at my side constantly, in and out of the hospital, during two long bouts with cancer. And I betray no secret in reporting that, without him, I would not have gained a seat on the Supreme Court" ~ RBG... Vale
04.01.2022 The lockdown was unexpected ... but I discovered the comfort of my own company, the euphoria of my day dreams; and I quite like it. While we still sit through the storm, in shock and awe, ... I will hang on to this reverie, the music humming in the background, and ponder ...the growth that awaits us all after this. Chi
