08.01.2022 The Child Abuse Prevention Service (CAPS) applauds the Australian Government and its state and territory counterparts for endorsing a new national approach to child safety, the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. The new National Principles will ensure that all organisations working with children will take appropriate measures to keep our most vulnerable members of society safe from abuse and maltreatment. CAPS is looking forward to working with the National Off...ice for Child Safety, the NSW Government and childcare organisations everywhere to support the implementation of the National Principles, along with all of the other recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. This is an important time for organisations to get a clear understanding of the national standards and to not repeat the mistakes of the past, such as organisations internal investigating allegations and concerns, leading to covering up child sexual abuse said Mr Taylor, General Manager of CAPS. The outcomes of the Royal Commission and what they mean for organisations that work with children will be just one of the topics addressed at the 2019 Safe Children Conference on 22 October 2019. The event will be held in Sydney and will bring together organisations working with children and government from around Australia for talks, seminars and discussions that will shape the national child safety landscape over the years to come. The 2019 conference will build on the success of the 2018 event, which attracted 240 people from 200 organisations to hear directly from Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald AM about the findings of the Royal Commission, along with other important guest speakers including the then Minister for Social Services.
