18.01.2022 IMPORTANT: HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT THE MATERNITY SERVICES REFORMS - FEEL FREE TO FORWARD TO WOMEN WHO MAY WANT TO TAKE PART IN THIS SURVEY Access and Choice in Maternity Services Survey In 2010 the Australian Government introduced a series of reforms to improve access and choice in maternity services for women in Australia. The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) is now seeking feedback from women on what their experiences have been with recent maternity... service arrangements and whether they are aware of the reforms that are in place. Your important feedback will help to shape the future of maternity services in Australia. Healthcare Management Advisors (HMA) has been engaged by DoHA as an independent organisation to conduct and collate the results of this short survey (3-5 minutes). All your responses will come directly to HMA and will be summarised so as not to be identifiable in any reporting. A report will be provided to DoHA for consideration by the Minister for Health regarding future arrangements for maternity services in Australia. This short survey can be accessed through the following link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HMAmaternitysurvey The survey will be open from Monday the 20th of February until Sunday the 4th of March 2012. Please contact Justine Irving at HMA on [email protected] or (08) 8168 8000 if you have any questions or if you would like to complete the short survey over the phone or in hard copy. On completion of the online survey you will be directed to the Australian Government Maternity Services Reform website (www.health.gov.au/maternity) where you can find additional information on these reforms. 12.01.2022 Does anyone know anyone that has suffered from eclampsia, placenta accreta, peripartum hysterectomy, rheumatic heart disease, gestatational breast cancer, or amniotic fluid embolism who might be willing to talk to a journalist about their experiences? This is background information on the work of AMOSS (Australasian Maternity Outcomes Surveillance System) - see http://www.amoss.com.au/ If you know of anyone who might be willing, can you ask them to contact me? ([email protected])

09.01.2022 From the Standing Council on Health's communique "Ministers today considered a West Australian proposed model of care for privately practicing midwives to provide Medicare-eligible services as part of planned homebirth for low risk women. Ministers agreed to further discussion on this issue at their next formal meeting in August 2012."... http://www.health.gov.au//Cont/mr-yr12-dept-dept270412.htm

07.01.2022 For all of you who contributed to the online survey on the maternity reforms, this is a reply I have received from the consultant: "I am writing to sincerely thank you for your assistance with promotion and dissemination of the Access and Choice to Maternity Services survey. We had a fantastic response with approximately 1,700 participants beginning the survey which is a significant number for an online survey in particular. We are in the process of finalising analyses of the wide range of responses and comments and will shortly provide the Department of Health and Ageing with a summary report. This survey report will provide the Department with some excellent information regarding consumer use of maternity services and awareness of the Budget Package initiatives."
