17.01.2022 Before the Childers Eco Lodge, Vanessa Kummerow and Rhys Kummerow were footloose and fancy free in South America. Part of our adventure was the rebuild of our truck (Tranquilo) in Cusco. With time for a bbq lunch and beers. How things have changed!!!!!!!!!

17.01.2022 Looking for suggestions on what movie should we screen for the inaugural showing in our new 18 seat cinema... What is your favourite classic Aussie movie? Cinema seats reclaimed from the Moncrieff Theatre in Bundaberg

15.01.2022 Who doesn't love avocados?? We've nominated Childers for The Big Avocado in #WotifBigThing competition... fingers crossed for making the shortlist on Sept 25th, then we need everyone to vote for it!!

15.01.2022 We've had a rolling celebration of Childers Ecolodge's 5th birthday over the last couple of weeks. It's amazing to look back to our opening 5 years ago, and think of all the people we have seen come and go since then. The place is ever changing and growing - in terms of facilities and trees/grass!

14.01.2022 Happy Birthday Eco-lodge! 7 years ago we opened with big dreams and ideals about what we were offering and how we would operate. Thank you to all our guests - be it a few nights or a few months, our wonderful staff, and our great farmers for being part of our success story! Check it out - 5 stars on Trip Advisor and 4.9 stars on Google!

13.01.2022 Ahh... the country scenes you are surprised by here! Meet Caramel our new little cow being shown around by Paddy, our long term resident who knows where the shady spots are!

We will miss you. We'd love everyone who has fond memories of Digger to post their pictures and memories please.

02.01.2022 The greedy farmer Farmers across Australia are battling drought, floods and state sanctioned bushfires. That’s even before we get to the duopoly super markets,... the banks and the Greens. You’d assume that the harrowing scenes in NQ where an estimated 500,000 head of cattle have perished and 800 families have lost their entire income would give farmers a brief reprieve. The out pouring of goodwill, compassion and charity from our city cousins has been overwhelming. But that hasn’t stopped some segments of our community taking a cheap shot. Like kicking a knocked out bloke on the footy field - those with an agenda to end all farmers are happy to keep sinking the boot into a lifeless community. At the peak of human and animal misery - animal liberationist, Green and vegan groups are happy to take the cheap shots to the shrill of their minority supporters. You’d have to question your own morality to sink the knife into families and businesses on their knees on the basis that you question how they make their living. The most repulsive comment is to blame greedy farmers. I guess it’s easy to espouse the evils of farmers sitting in inner city Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane - Cities that wouldn’t have existed without farming and would starve today without them. If you’re a vegan - you still need a farmer. If you’re a Green - you still need a farmer. If you’re any kind of human - you need a farmer. Farmers grow food to allow people to do other things with their time without worrying about where their next meal comes from aka starving. Like us or loathe us - you need us. If you want to talk about greed - I’ll ask you to take a look in the mirror. You inhabit 1% of Australia’s continent but consume 99.9% of its resources. You donate to Save the Koalas but bulldoze their habitat for your houses. You go vegan to save the environment but live in a concrete jungle. It’s a crisis if you can’t charge your iPhone. We’re happy to get some reception. You take for granted things like access to a hospital, public transport, free education, free health care, social security, free university and other cool shit like watching the broncos and the movies. We get free stuff too - but we usually have to drive an hour each way to get there. If we’re lucky. If you’re offended by the use of you I’ll assume you don’t own a farm. You might support us but the fact is you don’t vote for us. We don’t want pats on the back for what we do but the slaps in the face from the people we support gets hard to take. The kicks in the head when we’ve called for the stretcher is immoral. If you’re with us - thank you. If you’re against us - don’t eat for a week and come back to me.

02.01.2022 Making the most of the Queensland sun, an additional 19.6 kilowatts of solar panels have been installed to effectively cover all power usage at the Ecolodge! That brings our power generating capacity up to 24.8KW. Wow! As solar panels only generate power during the day, we collect extra power and send it to the grid to cover what is used at night.
