20.01.2022 It was a busy afternoon/evening for our crews yesterday with two seperate wildfires. A Childers Crew attended to a grassfire at Eureka around 1pm alongside a North Dallarnil crew and this fire was promptly brought under control and extinguished. At around 11pm, crews were responded to a fire burning alongside the Bruce Highway at Isis Central. Upon arrival, crews found that this fire had been burning for several hours before someone had phoned 000. This fire was also prompt...ly extinguished. We urge people, as we move further into fire season, if you spot a fire and have even the slightest amount of doubt about it, to call 000 immediately. If its a Hazard Reduction Burn by landholders, our Communications Centre will be aware and can contact the landholders, but if not, we can be responded quickly to ensure the safety of our community. Thanks to all of our crews on the ground yesterday

06.01.2022 STOP BUSHFIRE ARSON Bushfire arson is a crime, and a major threat to all Australians. The devastation which can occur affects whole communities, and recovery is never quick or easy. Records show that up to 50% of all bushfires across Australia are deliberately lit, or start under suspicious circumstances. This comes at a cost of $1.6 billion to the Australian public annually.... 06.01.2022 Over the next three days, the Wide Bay Burnett Area is forecast for Very High Fire Danger. So what does this mean? A fire with a 'very high' danger rating is a fire that can be difficult to control, with flames that may burn into the tree tops. During a fire of this type, some homes and businesses may be damaged or destroyed. During a fire with a 'very high' danger rating, you should use your home as a place of safety only if it is well-prepared and well-constructed.... If a fire occurs in your area, monitor the conditions and stay up to date with alerts. Be safe conducting any activity that may cause a fire to ignite.
05.01.2022 OPERATION COOL BURN Operation Cool Burn is a key period when Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) has a particular focus on bushfire mitigation. Most years, this period starts at the beginning of April and is normally scheduled to finish at the end of July however can be extended if necessary, for example if there is widespread unseasonal rainfall which impacts on planned burning. During Operation Cool Burn QFES supports its land management agency partners such as... the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing, the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, HQ Plantations (Queensland’s largest plantation forest company) and local government councils as well as landholders across the State to prepare for the coming bushfire season. There is also growing focus on community education to encourage everyone to be well prepared. The overall clear priority for Cool Burn is the protection of Queensland’s communities from the impacts of bushfires. Area Fire Management Groups have met across the state to develop priorities for mitigation activities in their areas based on a combination of state-wide data and reports and local knowledge. The types of bushfire mitigation activities include hazard reduction burning to reduce fuel loads, improvement of strategic fire breaks by landowners and targeted community education to inform residents in the highest priority areas of actions they can take to better prepare for bushfires. Whilst Operation Cool Burn provides a useful focus for bushfire preparation, preparations can also be undertaken at other times. To better prepare for bushfires it is recommended that people prepare a Bushfire Survival Plan and take the simple actions listed elsewhere on this website.

01.01.2022 Throwing lit cigarette butts from vehicles is dangerous. Cigarettes can start bush and grass fires, and place lives at risk. It's also bad for the environment. There are heavy penalties for people caught throwing lit cigarette butts from vehicles, especially during the times of increased fire danger. You can do your bit by reporting them. https://report-littering-dumping.ehp.qld.gov.au/mobile/
01.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW?? You can check the Bushfire Risk or potential for your area. Last bushfire season was one of the worst ever. Make sure you're prepared this season.... Click on the link below, enter your postcode or suburb in the map to see the bushfire potential in your neighbourhood. FYI - The map does not indicate current bushfires or predict the chances of a fire occurring. It shows the potential for a bushfire to take hold, spread and do damage, if one started in the area. It is based on local conditions such as vegetation type, topography and other indicators. https://www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/BushFire_PostCo/index.html
