25.01.2022 Back to school this week! Here are a few things to remember.

25.01.2022 There is a fair amount of research in the psychology sphere showing a strong relationship between writing and action. In this current research students who exp...lored their values in a brief series of writing assignments in middle school were more than 5x more likely to enrol in challenging university linked subjects in high school and to subsequently attend university. It would be interesting to know if a similar exercise would be of benefit to students with dyslexia, ADHD or experiencing other difficulties. http://blogs.edweek.org//writing_affirmation_boosts_colleg

19.01.2022 Meltdown moments and ‘tantrums’ in kids explained

17.01.2022 YES, YES AND YES TO ALL OF THIS. Parents and caregivers, take a moment to read this and share it with those around you. In my work with children, I am almost ...always focussed on calming their nervous systems so that they can feel SAFE in themselves and their environment. I see so many kids trying to CONTROL something in their own world (food, bowels, routine) to try gain a sense of safety and calm as they feel so OUT OF CONTROL with everything else. Remember: * Less is more * Let them just BE * Keep less toys out for them to play with * Reduce the stimulation around them * Set boundaries and consequences and then STICK TO THEM (every time) - this creates trust and safety

17.01.2022 Once students can read, reading then becomes an activity for acquiring knowledge. As they build knowledge through reading, this in turns provides a foundation f...or further thinking, understanding and learning. Effective reading comprehension is important not just in the educational setting, but for employment and daily living. We often test students comprehension rather than TEACHING them how to read strategically by activating background knowledge, asking questions, creating sensory imagery, determining importance, drawing inferences, synthesising information and making predictions. For ideas on developing comprehension go to: http://crackingtheabccode.com/developing-reading-comprehen/

16.01.2022 Number 3 is our favourite! Simple, easy and can do it anywhere at anytime. Breathing properly is SO important and it is the easiest way to get out of the red zone/ (stressed, worried and overwhelmed) and in to the green zone (calm, relaxed and happy). ... Start by - Noticing if your child is chest breathing/shallow breathing or even holding their breath at times. Get them to stop what theyre doing and take 10 nice deep belly breaths.

13.01.2022 Teachers are constantly telling their students to include vivid sensory images in their writing. However, many students find this a difficult task, not least b...ecause we rarely use such language in our everyday conversations. 12.01.2022 Teaching children to read is only half the story. We also need to develop a passion for reading in our children so that they practise reading. 09.01.2022 A few things to try to make those morning drop offs a bit easier.

07.01.2022 Try to notice what the FEELING is behind their BEHAVIOUR. Parents, helping your kids to name what theyre feeling can sometimes be all they need to let it go and settle down again. Let them know that theyre not the only ones to feel X or Y and that the feeling wont last forever.

07.01.2022 The holidays can sometimes bring along some heightened emotions. These tips might come in handy over the Christmas holidays.

07.01.2022 MONDAY MOOD AND PARENTAL INSPO - Dont rush a melt down, let them completely empty their (emotional) bucket. Are you navigating your way through the terrible ...2s or terrible 3s? There is a lot of emotional development going on for your child during this time so let them let it all out every now and again. Then you will find, they can take a deep breath and let their nervous system reset. Share with anyone who might need to hear this.

06.01.2022 Practice practice practice. Practice and prioritise kindness, everyday.

06.01.2022 The reading process has two components. When you first come across a new word, you need to be able to decode the word, which requires a good knowledge of phoni...cs (i.e., know the letters or combinations of letters that represent different sounds). Once the word has been decoded then you need to remember that word (i.e., put it into your long-term memory) so that when you come across the word again you dont need to go through the decoding process. Many students need to practise reading a word multiple times before it is stored in their long-term memory. For these students, games are an effective strategy for helping in this process. 06.01.2022 Some valuable, practical tips for parents at the end of the article. Everyone is doing the best they can with where theyre at and sometimes it is good to just get back to basics.

03.01.2022 A great resource for parents, teachers and carers. How to recognise normal anxiety or disorders and how best to treat it. From Confident Life

03.01.2022 *ATTENTION all parents - this is a must read! Life can get busy and hard, but we need to stick to the basics for the sake of our kids health, happiness and dev...elopment. I work with a lot of children doing kinesiology, which is very effective and necessary but the work you do at home, everyday, is so important and nothing can replace it. My favourite message from this article is: REMEMBER, YOU ARE THE CHILDS PARENT, NOT ALWAYS THEIR FRIEND. You are in charge and you are the one making the educated decisions, dont allow yourself to be manipulated.

03.01.2022 A new kind of education. Thought provoking and inspiring.

02.01.2022 Still places available in this information-filled workshop. It is definitely worth attending.
