A new American Academy of Pediatrics policy statement, Child Life Services, will be publis...hed in the January 2021 issue of Pediatrics (available online December 28) -- https://bit.ly/3pv4EX6. The updates include new data, research, and information about the value of child life and the continued expansion of child life services beyond inpatient hospitals. Authored by Barbara Romito, MA, CCLS, a member of AAP's Committee on Hospital Care; ACLP Board member Jennifer Jewel, MD, FAAP; and Meredith Jackson, MD, FAAP, the statement outlines the significant contributions of child life to effective patient- and family-centered care and offers recommendations for increasing child life services. The ACTLA has identified the following strategic focus areas for the Child Life Profession moving forward: Education professional development, qualification pathway, accreditation... Advocacy promotions/web/social media, networking, conferences Membership support administration support, newsletter, communication Resource development Research To commence we wish to focus on 3 areas: 1. Administration support 2. Training program with our universities 3. Resources - bringing together a resource folder for all to access To support us in our initiatives, we are excited to announce the growing partnership with AWCH. We are working collaboratively to build better support for children and families. We are currently looking at employing some administration hours through AWCH, to ensure that all members receive prompt and effective support. We are also exploring some funding opportunities through AWCH to develop an amazing resource bank. However we need your support as well. We would like to offer the opportunity to volunteer your time on our emerging working parties. We are looking for volunteers to explore, research and develop 2 areas (a resource group, and a tertiary training group). Being part of these groups helps you to build further knowledge, contribute to the professions development and to make some wonderful new connections with like-minded professions around the nation and possibly beyond.
