22.01.2022 With lots of children back at school, would it still be a good idea for us to continue the monthly Activity Box, or would you prefer one (perhaps a larger one) every holidays? We are prepared to do a May one, but just unsure, so thought we would put it out into this strange strange world we are now living in! All suggestions welcome!

22.01.2022 Todays Summer Art Camp (Ages 5 - 12) was all about getting slimy, paper chain competitions, faces, a collaborative mural and creating a puppet show! Tomorrow will be completely different! New activities every day - sign up for one or multiple days.

19.01.2022 Hello everyone! Truth be told we have not organised any holiday classes or workshops (yet), as right up until two days before Christmas we were in talks about getting a building... but these processes are a bit slower than hoped! If we were to organise art classes and photography workshops and put them up over the next few days - would ya come or are we too late?

19.01.2022 Happy 2020 everybody! Talk about timing - Yesterday we received the best email ever and we are now an officially recognised Incorporated Association/Non for Profit! We can now apply for grants and funding and while we will keep looking for investors to help us get a building, as well as putting on smaller events to build income and spread the word, this puts us one step closer to putting on bigger and better events and eventually creating the full dream! This year's gonna be a good one!

19.01.2022 If you are looking for things to do between now and Sunday on these rainy holidays, head to Kids Wonderland under the big top in Stirling and check out the Alice in Wonderland maze we created!

18.01.2022 Wednesday 7 October we have our CITY Kids Camera Workshop! We get to explore, sculpture, architecture, public art and more! These workshops are all about teaching some new skills and building interest, so that budding artists can be inspired! Still spots left! See you tomorrow under The Cactus (big green sculpture in Forest Place)!

18.01.2022 The Summer Art Camp (Ages 5 - 12) is about children learning about the processes of art, rather than making beautiful end products. We want to help people think and engage creatively by exploring with materials, working on collaborative art and learning new skills by experimenting. This is all about growing confidence, taking risks, welcoming the unexpected and helping new ideas and interests develop. We go through some art history every day to look at how masters of the f...ield used patterns, colour, texture etc, then we let children explore the process - last week everyone was working on their 2D patterns, when one child saw another using patterned paper to make 3D shapes, which then sparked ideas in other minds to make their own 3D patterns! It was amazing! There is no right or wrong in art and we are trying to take this away from product art like they often focus on at school, and open up the learning experiences! Process art is not only important in Early Childhood, but for older kids too, and each task can be tailored to suit all ages. For more about process art, head to https://tinkerlab.com/what-is-process-art-for-kids/ See more

11.01.2022 Update: I have now finished uni (Grad Dip Education EC) and another major work contract, and along with relief teaching am full steam ahead into moving forward with CMOWA once more, back looking for buildings and starting workshops/classes and events - so really watch this space! In other news, a Children's Museum has just opened in Melbourne... so this is even more proof that big cities and families everywhere need and deserve these incredible spaces! Chat soon!

11.01.2022 Today’s Kids Camera Club walks through the city were quite simply, brilliant fun! Great kids, fabulous parents, some perfectly timed random skateboarders and even a mini tour of the incredible His Majesty's Theatre, Perth, lots of street art and architecture shots. We hope you all had a great time and got a lot out of it! Thanks again to Cyrus Roussilhes, the best photography instructor around! More workshops and classes to be announced soon. Have a great rest of the school holidays everyone!

10.01.2022 Tomorrow is set to be a lovely 21 degrees, perfect for our Kids Camera Club NATURE TRAIL Workshop (Ages 5 - 10) at the beautiful Canning River Eco Education Centre. 09.01.2022 BUILDING UPDATE: The sad news is Heathcote is no longer an option. As quoted in an email I received yesterday, "we have had some difficulty over the Conditions on Title that determine the use of the site and unfortunately the Children’s Museum currently does not fit these conditions. We have appealed to the State Government but have not had clear direction." Heathcote Cultural Centre have decided not to award leases to anyone who applied to be there for longer than a one yea...r lease, as they are unsure of how the site will be used long term. This is just a hiccup, so now our hunt for a building continues, and we are hoping to find a mobile vehicle (like the examples shown below) to take some amazing interactive activities and exhibitions out on the road in the meantime (and beyond)... so as usual, watch this space! If anyone has ideas regarding suitable spaces, buildings, or has a spare caravan lying around, please send a private message, or email [email protected] See more

09.01.2022 The school holidays are here and our first art classes, in association with Victoria Park Community Centre start on Tuesday! Sign up for one day, or multiple! Suitable for all creative kids between 5 and 10. Each day will be different, with a mixture of art history and learning new arty techniques!

09.01.2022 The City Of Joondalup is holding a Daddy and Daughter Hair Workshop as part of the Adorn public program, at the Currambine Community Centre, so if any Daddy's out there need some helpful tips, this would be such a lovely event!

08.01.2022 There are two articles in The West Australian today about the importance of play to development. What better place to play than a Children’s Museum!!!!! Just another reason and even more proof that this is the perfect time to create one here in WA... our children need it!!!

08.01.2022 Mini Update: This year started strong with the introduction of our Summer Art Camp Classes. We started our hunt again for a suitable building for the bigger museum idea, as well as somewhere permanent to hold classes and other activities - and were making headway until Covid hit, then all doors seemed to shut once more. The dream of starting what I want to be a large scale and very beautifully crafted and thought out project - unlike any Perth has seen specifically dedicated... to children before - is a longer one than initially imagined. Real life and work takes time from the main focus, and this year has been crazy for everyone. In these upcoming holidays I have decided not to do the day long art classes, but take the time to email/call and conduct meetings in order to concentrate on finding a building and re-focusing on the bigger picture. We will be holding some Kids Camera Workshops in week 2 of these holidays, and will plan another Art Camp (in more venues) and more classes and events in the summer - and maybe even during term time - so watch this space! Thank you for following this journey, coming to classes and watching this all grow and evolve (fingers crossed) - however slowly this may seem! See more

07.01.2022 21 degrees, sunny with patches of cloud... what a perfect day to photograph wildflowers!! Some spots left!

07.01.2022 Activity Packs full of fun and learning are being made as we speak... Pre-Orders and more info available very soon!Activity Packs full of fun and learning are being made as we speak... Pre-Orders and more info available very soon!

07.01.2022 Today was the last day of our first ever Summer Art Camp! We will aim to be back, in venues across Perth over all upcoming holidays this year and going forward. Today we created a giant communal feast, copied some of the Masters (Mondrian and Modigliani shown here), learnt how to print like Andy Warhol and did a little architectural model making! An enormous thanks to the Queen of all things artistic, Sally Renshaw for being so amazing, to Kerry Street Community School for hosting us and to all the kids and families who got involved and came along! See ya next holidays!

06.01.2022 May has been a crazy month for the whole world seemingly, so sadly we have not been able to get a May Activity Box ready (as school went back earlier than expected and I had two programs to plan!), but from June onward they will be monthly! We have set up a new dedicated website, rescheduled meetings that were cancelled (for hopefully getting a building) and are planning art classes for the upcoming holidays - all being good! In the meantime, you can order boxes for June from today. No photos of what is in it yet, but there are jokes, mobile and sculpture making activities and more! More info to come, but please pass on info of our new website and Activity Boxes on to any friends who may be interested!

06.01.2022 Our OUT OF THE BOX Activity Boxes will be ready to send next week, with expected delivery between the 15th and 17th of April! $35 plus postage. We aim to provide opportunities for children to learn about the world around them and explore new ideas. This box not only has activities, it has ideas of how to extend the projects with your child, do their own examples and take things to the next level.... Some children will do exactly what is in the box - and some will go 'outside the box' to explore, discover, create and learn even more, allowing them to develop their own interests, solve problems and improve their skills. This box Contains: - Art History notes on an individual artist - with accompanying activity (material provided) - Mini stack of jokes and riddles - Activity - Making art with food - The power of Idioms - One old school craft to learn (material provided) - 1 x crazy delicious recipe card - A lesson on limericks - Template to create a 3D masterpiece (from the box!)... and more! 06.01.2022 Hi everyone. We have been very quiet on here for a long while but have no fear the dream is still there! I went back to uni to get my grad dip in Education, to add to my Arts Management and Interior Architecture degrees, and have been working in schools to build up even more knowledge for what the Children's Museum needs to be and should be! Of course there is still lots of work going on behind the scenes...and now I have a more realistic vision of how long this may take to ...become a reality, but am pushing on with the big dream - meeting people, hunting for places, building ideas and gaining experience. From April we will start running art classes and hopefully doing bigger and better events as the year continues, working towards a building at every step possible. Slowly but surely!!!!!!!

03.01.2022 We were just getting ready to announce school holiday art workshops in 4 different suburbs around Perth, but are now reconsidering due to all that is going on. 03.01.2022 Looking for fun activities for the little tykes these holidays? Look no further! Starts next Tuesday. Book in for one day, or multiple.

03.01.2022 This Saturday we have two Kids Camera Club events coming up at Cottesloe Beach! The forecast is for a sunny 20 degrees, so book soon to get in on the adventure!

02.01.2022 A little drawing inspiration for these days... follow it up with writing a story or poem about the picture, turn it into a cartoon... so many options to extend these!

02.01.2022 If you came to our Kids Camera Club walkabout in Kings Park - or even if you didn't, take a look at some of the photographs taken by our intrepid Photography Teacher Cyrus Roussilhes on the day! Just incredible! These walkabouts are all about getting children to see details, looking at objects and landscapes in different ways, peaking an interest and developing some skills. Somehow in the middle of chatting and teaching, Cyrus had time to develop and take his own shots. :)

02.01.2022 The newest Children's Museum to open in the USA opened a couple of weeks ago... called the 'Creative Play Lab', it is still a work in progress and they desperately need staff ($$$) but the bones are there and they did it with a budget of $3000 & a LOT of volunteer hours from a core group of hard-core women! This is inspirational... although we aim very very high, there is nothing wrong with starting small - as long as kids are creating and playing and inventing and learning! #lifegoals

02.01.2022 Today's Kids Camera Club Workshop in the city was awesome! A great group of kids, some interesting parts of the city explored and new skills learnt and ideas generated! See y'all next holidays! Huge thanks to the amazing Cyrus!

02.01.2022 If you think The Children’s Museum of WA is a fabulous idea and would like to help us get it off the ground, we are looking for members to join an informal yet important Steering Committee! Meetings would be monthly, and members would help come up with ideas for events, venues, possible exhibitions, give financial and business advice and help uncover other possible directions and avenues to help take this important venture forward - as many brains are indeed better than one! If you are a parent, teacher, educator or interested in any way, please contact Victoria @ [email protected] for more information. Thank you so much and looking forward to hearing from you!

01.01.2022 6 days of holiday Art Camp done and dusted! It never ceases to amaze me how kids walk in knowing nobody and quickly start chatting, making friends and helping each other. Its a beautiful thing to watch and we have had some great groups these holidays! Art Camp is all about learning through fun - art history stories with process art activities and some play and climbing thrown in. Huge thanks to Victoria Park Community Centre and Kerry Street Community School for hosting us, and Sally Renshaw - without whom this would be impossible. See yall next holidays! X Victoria
