20.01.2022 What wonderful memories of the Sydney 2000 games we share. I was heavily involved in Sydney’s 2000 bid campaign. At the time I was a very young Olympian with... prospects of competing in Sydney 2000, so local athletes were called upon regularly to attend functions and meet leaders, dignitaries & royals from across the world. Although I had retired before Sydney arrived I am so thankful I got to experience our home games as a volunteer and spectator. Watching my friends compete was amazing.... and a little less nerve racking than prior experiences. Watching my good friend Elli Overton swim at her 3rd Olympics and captain the swim team along with Susie ONeill’s 200Free win... unforgettable. Seeing my coach Brian Sutton represent Aus along with old training buddy and fellow Maroubra Club mate Brett Hawke was also special. No one could ever forget Jane Saville’s devastation. We cried along with our fellow training partner and friend but her grace and true character shone through. She was admired world wide. I love the memories of this special time. I just hope my kids can experience an Olympics at home once in their lifetime!
