24.01.2022 This is amazing! Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the Government is pleased to support this great initiative, which promotes the value and importance of books: Reading is a cornerstone of literacy, knowledge and wellbeing, and can be a particularly rewarding way to spend time during COVID-19. I hope that as we all spend more time at home in response to social distancing measures, more Australians rekindle a love of reading - reconnecting with our old favourite books and characters and discovering new ones. Hear Hear! #AustraliaReadsAtHome

22.01.2022 When it comes to supporting children and children's literature, Motamo Biennale Livres D'enfants certainly brings passionate advocates together with style! My heartfelt thanks to the children who contributed to this edition from Australia. You were a joy to work with!

22.01.2022 A child's family dealing with his cancer... It's a big story, of how they survived - and how they nearly didn't! Love that it's on Audible.

21.01.2022 You need this! Pass it on is a bi-monthly eZine, with everything you need to know about the picture book world, and more. For writers, it is an essential tool in your creative tool box. https://jackiehoskingblog.wordpress.com/pass-it-on/

20.01.2022 Wonder what I get up to during the day... Amazing working with the super team of ALL of Year 4 at Darling Heights Community Hub Darling Heights State School.

20.01.2022 So this is happening! Stage Two of the Motamo project has been completed. The Australian participants - Emily, Stephanie, Phoenix, Hugo, Jame, Heidi, Maddison, Miley, Ava, Ellie and Luke - created images based on their interpretation of 'boats', and the children in Belgium have rendered them. Next step - writing! (Congrats everyone!)

18.01.2022 You’re invited to stop what you’re doing for an hour, pick up a book and read to yourself or the children in your life.

18.01.2022 Happy International Literacy Day everyone x

16.01.2022 Our heartfelt condolences to the Wallace family after hearing of Paddy's death. Paddy wrote and illustrated 'Why is a Worry' in 2014. His family asked for extra copies of his book. Thank you print manager Rob Keneally from Ellipsis for offering to pay for them and gift them to the family as a symbol of support. Paddy was 18 and had finished at Toowoomba Anglican School in 2019. Always amazing how in dark moments there are such special gestures of kindness!

12.01.2022 Have you ever wanted to ask a REAL LIVE AUTHOR a question... well, you can! Book Links - The Centre for Children's Literature is hosting a FREE 'Ask An Author' event (and lots of other lovely events) Here is more info:

11.01.2022 Reading is so important for children and here are several ideas other than just reading the regular story: Let them look at the pictures and narrate what they... see Let them ask questions about the pages. You might be surprised at the things they see (and you don’t) Ask them what’s coming up next in the story.. When they have learned it tou can switch to another book or... Act out the book. Have a theater night and act out the story, the kids will love it ad long as you applaud All these simple things will help them improve concentration, improve vocabulary and their imagination. And they will be entertained for a while. It’s a Win Win! Don’t have many books? Have them watch the story videos we’ve been sending you #laeducaciónnopara #loveforbooks #reading . . . #astridspreschool #bestpreschoolever #since1990 #preschoolpanama #preescolarpanama #preescolar #readingtime See more

11.01.2022 Not possible to have version of this book read that is any cuter! (Elena read this for Astrid's Preschool, thank you! You will be really pleased to know Pengui...n Random House amongst a plethora of amazing publishers who have given permission to readers to share books as we all wrangle all that is Covid-19, but the BIGGEST THANK YOU is to author Eric Carle) See more

10.01.2022 The National Child Writes Competition is cancelled for this year! We have been beside ourselves having tried so many different approaches to promote this competition, but honestly, schools and families are simply up to their eye-balls trying to deal with all that is covid-19... As much as we wax-lyrical about the work we do with The Child Writes Fund (they get 100% of the entry fee!) it is simply not the right time to be asking for money, irrespective of the prize. SO... ...instead of a competition this year, we are doing the absolute opposite! If you happen upon this post, having searched for 'competitions' or opportunities for your primary school aged children, please have this instead... FREE ACCESS TO OUR ONLINE PROGRAM Yep, write and illustrate your own book!

10.01.2022 Australia only. Limited number. Starting 9am (QLD) 10am (NSW/VIC)

09.01.2022 The Child Writes Fund (with the support of the FRRR) and Zonta Club of Toowoomba Garden City is supporting a book to be created by the children at Darling Heights State School They are passionate about harmony... check this out! What an inspiring start to the project!

07.01.2022 There is magic in the work created by Aura! If you are in Sydney you will really want to be part of this workshop. Aura is the 2020 International Read to Me Day Illustrator and one of our all time favourites!

07.01.2022 Books! Who doesn't love a new book! Here's what we've been up to at this end... Luke Calypso Goes to Space was created with the kids at the Queensland Children's Hospital School, sharing the experience of being somewhere differentl, and Glib Glob's Audacious Gift for the Oakey community as they deal with drought. Both books are gifted to children who may not have books at home, or who just need that little bit of extra love and support!

06.01.2022 During this COVID-19 pandemic, schools are closed which is causing not only a learning loss but also a decrease in reading habits among children. For the past 1...0 years, YUM has run community libraries in Cipanas, West Java, and Bukit Batu, Central Kalimantan that have been the one and only libraries in their area that is open for the public. Ever since the pandemic, the library has had to find other ways to reach their members such as this video reading of the book "Priscilla Fabourama Glamourama" by Emma Mactaggart, translated in Bahasa Indonesia and read by our librarian. The community library not only provides books for all ages but also offers educational and creative activities such as arts and crafts, English club, Computer club, Science club, Nutrition and Health program, Dance Club as well as opportunities to watch movies together. Let's all hope that the libraries can open again soon and children can borrow and read books as much as they desire! Happy International Literacy Day! #InternationalLiteracyDay #CommunityLibraries #Reading #Books #worldliteracyday

06.01.2022 Thank you Shaun Tan for your remarkable illustration for CBCA Book Week 2021... very powerful!

06.01.2022 How wonderful to inhabit a world of children's picture books. Authors, like teachers, are amongst the most generous of people, and from around the world they come together to share videos of themselves reading books for you. Here - share this to anyone who could use a break!

03.01.2022 This. IS. Magic! Thank you Penguin Random House for permission to share this, bringing an immense amount of joy into homes around the world. We are so thrilled with this, thank you also to Astrid's Preschool

02.01.2022 Thank you Jacqui Halpin for sharing her awesome book on the International Read to Me Day MARCH 19TH youtube channel. Even as we emerge from covid-19 restrictions here in Australia, cases spiking in Victoria gently remind us that we have a long way to go! Books are the most magical distraction and we couldn't be prouder to be supporting this campaign.

02.01.2022 And 35 of the students became published authors in 2013 - amazing story tellers and an incredible community.

01.01.2022 This is important! We love those first day photos, but think about what you are putting out there...

01.01.2022 Happy Sunday... This is what my first EVER zoom workshop looked like... Amazing group of children from Sydney, Wollongong, Dubbo, Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisban...e all gave an hour of their time to create an illustration for Motamo Biennale Livres D'enfants You have to look at what Motamo are doing - this collaboration, lead by an amazing team in Belgium, with children from Iran, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, and now us in Australia, is inspiring. At a time when we are in a state of chaos around the world, it is an honour to create something to give to many. See more
